Chapter 539: Chapter 0539 Wedding Vows 1_1

The wedding was to take place in the army canteen, and Su Junlin, anxious to be a groom, set the date for the next day.

During the day, the soldiers watched performances, while the wedding was scheduled for the evening.

The news spread all over that evening, and during dinner, congratulations for Su Junlin and Bai Xue were heard from all around.

Su Junlin chuckled cheerily, seeming to have become ten years younger in an instant.

Bai Xue, however, kept her head down and ate quietly, ignoring the congratulations around her. Chen Chen, Mi Xiaoli and others dared not speak, let alone even breathe too heavy. Only Yang Fengying arched an eyebrow, surprised by the unforeseen conclusion, surely everyone was overjoyed!

Thinking about her good friend Hao Xiaomei’s fate, Yang Fengying thought, it’s karma’s justice after all.

She happened to go see Commander Bai today, and overheard Bai’s conversation with Bai Xue about Hao Xiaomei - it was all about Bai Xue’s suggestion to find a proxy bride like Hao Xiaomei to marry Su Junlin.

On hearing this, Yang Fengying immediately sneaked away unnoticed.

Before Hao Xiaomei’s wedding, she had told Yang Fengying about someone threatening her with her boyfriend Zhang Jun’s future. Now it seemed this person was none other but Bai Xue!

Yang Fengying lamented her poor judgment; she had once thought Bai Xue to be kind, but it seemed she was nothing but malicious on the inside!

What a pity for Hao Xiaomei and Zhang Jun, a loving couple.

Upon hearing the news at dinner, Feng Qingxue, who was in the dormitory, was astounded, "So soon?"

Guo Xiuying argued casually, "What grand wedding could there be in the army? The conditions here are so poor. During the war, people just had the leadership officiate the wedding, and by nightfall, rolling up their bedding together meant they were husband and wife."

Feng Qingxue was left speechless. If not for Shen Feihong’s intentions, his and Zhou Yulan’s wedding would have been no different.

She and Lu Jiang had held a lively and grand wedding that was still the talk of the town. She couldn’t imagine what it was like for a bride to marry the groom in such a simple ceremony, especially someone like Bai Xue.

However, no one forced her at any time.

The path she chose was her own.

"Oh, by the way, Qingxue, what gift are you ready to give? The soldiers below can be exempted. The commander gave the word, but Lu Jiang’s position is not low. It wouldn’t look good if you go empty-handed!" Guo Xiuying specifically came to talk to Feng Qingxue about this. "I have a lot of military supplies saved over the last one or two years because we always use our clothes, shoes and socks until they are worn out. If you haven’t prepared anything, you can come and pick a couple from me tomorrow morning."

Feng Qingxue thanked her, "Thank you for your kindness, we have already prepared."

With so many supplies stored in the space, picking out one or two unnoticeable ones would work fine.

"What should we give?" Feng Qingxue asked Lu Jiang after Guo Xiuying had left.

Xibao was overly excited and, despite being fed, was refusing to sleep, shouting, "Drive! Drive!" while riding Lu Jiang’s neck.

Feng Qingxue had no idea who taught him this; she certainly hadn’t.

Lu Jiang turned to and fro in the narrow dormitory, answering insincerely, "Whatever you want, it’s up to you. Anything is better than going empty-handed. During particularly hard times, the bride and groom didn’t even have clothes without patches."

Since Bai Xue was covertly coveting Lu Jiang, Feng Qingxue didn’t want to give her a nice gift. Bai Xue liked to look beautiful, didn’t she? A silk scarf would be good enough.
