Chapter 333: Chapter 0333: Joy of Having a Precious Son1_1

When Feng Qingxue received the first letter, she didn’t notice anything unusual. After she received the second one, she felt something was not quite right. But by the time she received the third letter, she knew that Lu Jiang was either on a mission or had been sent to the battlefield.

That fellow certainly had not realized how forcefully he was writing in the letters.

The paper he used to write to her was never proper stationery, but irregular scraps torn directly from his commonly used notebook—sometimes it was blank paper, other times rough paper. It was never the same, he would write with whatever paper and pen he had on hand. Now three consecutive letters were written on identical paper, with the same ink. Moreover, the second letter clearly bore pen marks from the first, while the third one obviously showed traces from the second, with faint imprints of the first.

If he was using his usual notebook, it would be impossible to write the letters in such an orderly sequence. There was no way he hadn’t used the notebook for anything else in the half a month between two letters, and yet the content was always repetitive.

And then there were the tickets and items that came with the letters. It was evident that he had not prepared them himself.

The hodgepodge of tickets was clearly assembled here and there. Feng Qingxue didn’t make much of it because Lu Jiang often did that in the past, asking for unused tickets from his comrades when provisions were scarce.

She determined this from the things he sent. Lu Jiang knew that she had a storage space, filled with all sorts of scarce supplies, enough to replenish any needs. They had agreed to keep appearances, yet now the items he sent were overly honest. Canned meats, all sorts of miscellaneous objects, evidently assembled bit by bit, but the letters made no mention of these.

Based on these suspicions, it was clear that Lu Jiang was no longer with his troop.

Given the nature of his troop, he must’ve been sent to the battlefield.

As a wife, it was a lie to say that she didn’t worry about her husband returning to the battlefield soon after recovering from an injury.

However, she knew it was Lu Jiang’s duty. All she could do was to support him and take care of the family, allowing him to fight without any distractions. While battling enemies, he could seize his chance of survival.

After realizing this, Feng Qingxue pretended not to know and continued to send him letters every month, recounting the ordinary happenings at home.

She was in charge of the exchange of letters and goods between herself and Lu Jiang. Mr. Lu did not interfere, only occasionally asking about Lu Jiang. Feng Qingxue would easily brush his inquiries aside with a few words.

As the weather grew warmer, she, whose due date was in May, began to prepare childbirth necessities in advance.

Baby clothes, swaddling blankets, diapers, and socks—two thin swaddling blankets and one thicker one were made from new fabric and new cotton, and she transformed her own autumn clothes into baby clothes and socks, which were soft and skin-friendly. The diapers were made from old clothes but she chose the soft cotton fabric. All the stitches were on the outside.

She would wash the material for the swaddling blankets, then boil it and dry it before starting to sew. Once the clothes, diapers, and socks were completed, she would wash and boil them repeatedly, then air dry and store them in a separate wardrobe.

Apart from preparing special towels and bath basin for the baby, Feng Qingxue also prepared a lot of things for herself—underwear, nightclothes, cotton slippers, socks, towels, a hat, gauze, hand-washing soap, sanitary napkins, and the currently top-tier, pink-colored sanitary paper sold at the supply and marketing cooperative for fifty cents a roll and so on.

As her expected delivery date approached, she stopped working, but her midwifery duties continued.
