Chapter 245: Chapter 0245: Encouraging Wang Jiao 1_1
The moment Lu Jiang stepped out of his home, Feng Qingxue’s heart felt as if it were missing half.
Empty, drifting, never able to land or find a place to rest.
"Ajiang!"
Feng Qingxue quickened her steps, exiting the front door, only to see a departing mule cart, with Wang Zhengguo and Lu Jiang riding.
Lu Jiang felt a stir in his heart, as if sensing something. He turned around abruptly to see his chasing wife. Waving at her, he shouted, "Qingxue, you go back and rest. Don’t follow me. I’ll come home once I get time off work!"
Feng Qingxue stopped after chasing for two steps, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Ajiang..."
As the mule cart gradually moved further away, Lu Jiang, who was still waving, soon disappeared from sight.
And so did his wife from Lu Jiang’s view, as he slowly lowered his hand.
Wang Zhengguo sighed inwardly, but chuckled, "Alright, Lu Jiang, when you’re serving the country abroad, don’t worry about home. Ensuring your safety is the greatest wish of your family."
"I’ll remember that, Uncle," Lu Jiang replied, thinking of his pregnant wife. "Uncle, I’m counting on you to take care of my father, wife, aunt, and nephews while I’m not around. Qingxue has a weak constitution, you know our situation isn’t as tough as it seems to outsiders, I don’t want Qingxue to overwork."
Wang Zhengguo chuckled and teased, "You really spoil your wife, don’t you?"
Lu Jiang just smirked in response.
Even though Feng Qingxue had constantly said that the doctors hadn’t completely confirmed her pregnancy and had told Lu Jiang not to broadcast it in case it turned out to be a false alarm, but Lu Jiang was pretty sure she was indeed pregnant.
And so, he restated insistently to Wang Zhengguo, "Uncle, I’m serious. Don’t take this lightly. It’s already the eighth month of the lunar calendar, not too long till the farming season will kick off–harvesting sweet potatoes, corn, and rice, all of which is heavy labor. I’ve thought it through, anything that requires bending over or squatting should not be assigned to Qingxue."
"By that logic, best to keep her from labor entirely," Wang Zhengguo retorted grumpily.
"That’s the best scenario, you can make up an excuse for her!" Lu Jiang immediately hopped on the bandwagon.
Wang Zhengguo pointed at him, glaring, left speechless for a moment.
In the following time, until Lu Jiang boarded the train, he insisted that Wang Zhengguo promise not to let Feng Qingxue engage in heavy labor, despite his endless bickering. Only after he had boarded the train with the help of a conductor, he felt at ease.
As per Lu Jiang’s instructions, Wang Zhengguo sent a brief telegram to his comrade, Zhao Yong, then headed back home in the mule cart.
As he drove by his house, he saw his daughter leisurely cracking melon seeds on the stone bench by the door. Seeing melon seed shells scattered all around her, he felt his temper flare, "Wang Jiao, you were eating seeds when I left in the morning. Now, you’re still eating seeds when I return, what on earth are you trying to do? Your mother is busy all day, can’t you give her a hand?"
"Who says I’m not helping? I made lunch today; I was the one who cooked the pot!" Wang Jiao flicked her two braided pigtails over her shoulder, standing up and declared, "I’m going to hang out with Xiaoxue, saves me from being nagged at home all day long!"
Wang Jiao enjoyed spending time with Feng Qingxue. She was pretty to look at, which made her happy.
The most important part was Feng Qingxue would always treat her to delicious food and never spoke ill of her behind her back—saying she was lazy and vain. Don’t think she didn’t know that many people often talked behind her back, even persuading Yuejin to call off their engagement!
