Chapter 1529: Chapter 1529: Fubao Enrollment 1

Feng Qingxue had heard a story about Dacron fabric. She couldn’t tell if it was true or not, and the storyteller probably added some humorous touches to it.

There was a young man who queued up to buy Dacron fabric. After much effort, it was finally his turn, but there was only a small piece left—just enough to make a pair of briefs. He gritted his teeth and bought it, stitching himself a pair of briefs to wear underneath. To show off that he owned Dacron fabric—since wearing it was considered a status symbol at the time—he crafted a sign to wear around his waist that read, "Contains Dacron fabric inside."

The story could have ended there, but that was just the beginning.

One day, the young man urgently needed the restroom. The sign was inconvenient to take inside, so he left it hanging on the restroom door. When he came out, he found a long queue waiting outside the door. Curious, he asked, "Why are you all in line?" The people in the queue replied, "Doesn’t the sign say ’Contains Dacron fabric inside’? So where’s the Dacron? We’re waiting to buy some!"

This story illustrates just how sought-after Dacron fabric was.

Although Dacron is crisp, smooth, durable, and doesn’t easily deform, it isn’t breathable. If you get caught in the rain or sweat profusely, the fabric sticks to your skin. That’s why Feng Qingxue never made clothes from Dacron for her family. She had two Dacron shirts that Chen Xueniang had sewn for her, but she never wore them.

Fubao couldn’t understand this. She held a piece of Dacron fabric up to Feng Qingxue and said, "Mom, can you make me a pretty blouse?"

"Alright, I’ll make it for you tomorrow. Put it back for now." As long as the children’s requests weren’t unreasonable, Feng Qingxue was happy to fulfill them. She figured that once her daughter experienced the difference between Dacron and cotton’s comfort, she wouldn’t blindly chase trends anymore.

Yes, trends—Dacron was a fashion statement of its time.

Even in an era that seemed to forsake beauty, there were still many who pursued it.

Lu Erxiong perked up his ears and listened in, then raised his chubby little arms and said, "Mom, you can’t play favorites. I want to wear Dacron too! Sister says it’s cool; I want to try being cool too!"

Dundun and Zhuangzhuang were curiously wandering around the house and yard, but they didn’t make nearly as many demands as he did.

Lu Jiang said, "Alright, you can have it, and Dundun and Zhuangzhuang can have some too. Mom can make one for each of you. There are some white Dacron pieces left in the house; how about each of you gets a pair of briefs?"

Lu Erxiong pouted. "Sister gets a blouse, but we only get briefs!"

When he mentioned the blouse, he gestured dramatically with his hands to show its size. But when it came to the briefs, his fingers pinched together to emphasize his father’s favoritism.

"If you’re going to complain like that, the briefs might disappear altogether," Feng Qingxue said.

The little guy immediately shut his mouth.

After dinner and a bath, Wang Cuilan put the triplets to rest in the west room. Fubao had her own room, while the guards and attendants were arranged in the study, which had two bunk beds.

Finally, Feng Qingxue and Lu Jiang had some alone time.

Lu Jiang rested his forehead against hers and said, "I wish time would stop at this very moment."

Lying on the bed, Feng Qingxue’s waterfall-like hair spread across the pillow. She chuckled and said, "Then I’d truly be a sinner against the nation."
