Chapter 1512: Chapter 1512: Thriving Day by Day 1

Wucheng is still part of Hebei, located northwest of the Capital, about the same distance from the Capital as Baozhou.

Since Feng Qingxue was still pursuing her studies, she didn’t immediately bring the children along. Instead, she sent a telegram back home to inform her family of the news, advising them not to use Lu Jiang’s old contact address anymore.

Jiang Xiaoyue finished her postpartum confinement during this time and was brought back to the military compound by Jiang Yun.

Jiang Yun already had a nanny at home, and with a guard accompanying him wherever he went, they could take care of the child quite well. This was something the father and daughter had planned long ago: after Jiang Xiaoyue’s maternity leave ended, she would return to the military unit, and she and Lu Tianjun could frequently visit to see the child.

Lu Chen was drinking formula milk, so Jiang Xiaoyue didn’t need to come back to breastfeed during the day.

Although Lu Family’s children should ideally be living with the Lu Family, Feng Qingxue was not Jiang Xiaoyue’s biological mother-in-law. Qingxue herself had schooling to attend and several children to care for, leaving her overwhelmed and stretched thin. Jiang Xiaoyue would never take it for granted to demand Feng Qingxue take responsibility for her and her husband’s child. She believed that whoever brought the child into the world should be the one to raise it, rather than forcing their responsibilities onto their elders.

Other dual-career families managed to raise their children just fine, and they could too.

After Jiang Xiaoyue and her son left, Wang Cuilan dismissed the temporarily hired nanny. During the day, while Feng Qingxue and her daughter went to school, Cuilan only needed to watch over the triplets. Washing clothes and cooking were trivial tasks for her.

When Chen Xueniang popped in for a visit, she found Dundun and Lu Erxiong playing with mud in the yard, while Zhuangzhuang sat under the pomegranate tree reading a picture book.

In truth, it was Lu Erxiong who played while Dundun kept him company, shaping crooked tanks and cannons out of mud.

"Dundun truly is a good older brother!" Among the five children, none had character flaws, but when it came to kindness and genuineness, Dundun was undoubtedly number one.

Hearing voices, Wang Cuilan emerged from the kitchen with an apron tied around her waist, wiping her damp hands on it. "Not working today? Xiaoxue and Fubao headed off to school early this morning."

Chen Xueniang chuckled, "I’ve processed my retirement paperwork, so now I can visit you and play every day."

Wang Cuilan was initially stunned by the reply but quickly realized that Chen Xueniang was already more than fifty years old. She couldn’t help but say, "Time truly flies. Before you know it, we’ve all grown old."

"Indeed, time shows no mercy," said Chen Xueniang with heartfelt agreement.

Wang Cuilan was about to say something when the guard from Lu Shuai’s household knocked on the door connecting their two homes. "Is Comrade Qingxue home? If not, Comrade Cuilan, there’s a call for you. It’s from Huaibei City."

Without getting the chance to ask who was calling, Wang Cuilan entrusted the children to Chen Xueniang and hurried out.

"A call? Grandpa? Big brother?" Lu Erxiong jumped up, his muddy hands forgotten, shouting as he ran after her. "Grandma, wait for me! I want to talk to Grandpa! I want to talk to Big Brother!"

Wang Cuilan stopped for a short moment and brought him along.

Lu Shuai was in the room, talking with the caller. When he saw Wang Cuilan’s figure arrive, he smiled and said, "Comrade Cuilan is here. You two chat as husband and wife while I take Erxiong to wash his hands. Erxiong, come on, Grandpa will get you some fruit to eat."

Without hesitation, Lu Erxiong abandoned his plan to answer the call, mainly because he discerned from Lu Shuai’s words that the caller was Cheng Baoguo.

Shaking her head, Wang Cuilan accepted the receiver handed over by Lu Shuai. "Hello, Baoguo, what’s the matter with Xiaoxue?"

"It’s good news." Cheng Baoguo’s cheerful voice echoed from the other end.
