It was clear that in the Lu Family, the most mild-tempered were Lu Tianzhi and Dundun. But Dundun was too young to cook.

Seeing Christine’s big, expectant eyes, Lu Tianzhi nodded. "You like them that much? I’ll make some in a bit. We just got new flour—bought it with those remittance coupons you gave my aunt."

As soon as remittance coupons were mentioned, Feng Qingxue, who had just entered the house, said to Christine, "The remittance coupons you gave us were far too valuable. We spent part of them; we didn’t want to decline your kindness. But you should take the rest back—there are plenty of places where they’ll come in handy."

Christine shook her head and said, "We don’t need them, not taking them back. We usually eat Western food and barely use the remittance coupons. We only use a little when we go shopping, but many things we want don’t even require the coupons. We’re heading back soon. If they aren’t used, they’ll go to waste. Giving them to you is just making the best use of them."

Her last sentence was in Chinese, but her pronunciation was off, making it sound a bit odd.

"But we’ll feel too indebted, Christine. Your parents have already given us so many precious gifts, and now you’re adding these remittance coupons," Feng Qingxue said, finding it hard to simply accept.

"No guilt, no guilt, it’s nothing!" Christine waved her hand, her eyes as blue as the sky sparkling. She quickly added, "Dear, if you feel guilty, how about treating me to a meal? Lu’s cooking is so good! Scallion pancakes—delicious!"

"No problem at all! Our house welcomes you every single day, and you can eat here every single day," Feng Qingxue agreed readily. "My cooking is great too. Today, we’re making dumplings. We have a saying: nothing tastes better than dumplings. When you leave, we’ll make some scallion pancakes for you to take along as your dinner. How does that sound?"

Christine clapped her hands. "Great, great, great!"

She pulled out a gift she had brought from her bag—five boxes of brightly colored crayons. Clearly, they were intended for the five children in the Lu Family. Not showing up empty-handed made the Lu Family feel a warm reassurance, including Grandpa Lu, who had just come home.

When Wang Cuilan and Fubao arrived, Lu Tianzhi was busy chopping dumpling filling, and Feng Qingxue was kneading dough.

Seeing this, Wang Cuilan immediately rolled up her sleeves to help.

Initially, Feng Qingxue had planned to use a lamb, cabbage, and fat scrap mix, but knowing how much Christine liked onions, she switched to onion-lamb filling and only made a small batch of cabbage-fat scrap dumplings for the kids.

Watching the plump, snow-white dumplings bob up and down in the boiling water, Christine’s eyes widened.

After three boils, the dumplings were cooked through.

Adults and children alike lined up with their bowls. Feng Qingxue, holding a slotted spoon, fished out dumplings—one scoop filling an entire bowl. If the bowls overflowed, she ladled them into plates or enameled food basins.

While this busy scene unfolded, Lu Jiang returned home with some others.

"Qingxue, we have guests. I picked up a few ready-made dishes, along with some steamed buns and baked rolls. What’s cooking at home?"

Hearing Lu Jiang’s words, Feng Qingxue was momentarily stunned. She handed the dumpling scooping duties to Lu Tianzhi, stepped out of the kitchen, and saw Lu Jiang and Shi Guantao walking in side by side, followed by an orderly carrying a meal box.
