Chapter 1440: Chapter 1440: Xibao Enters the Capital 4

Watching Jin Laoqi enter his house, Lu Jiang, who had been lurking in the shadows outside the wall, finally left to head home. He saw his wife hadn’t slept yet, quickly took off his military coat, and shook off the chill, "Didn’t I tell you to rest first?"

Feng Qingxue handed him a bowl of lukewarm water, "Was the item delivered?"

"It’s delivered. I personally watched Jin Laoqi entering his home; he will definitely see the grains left at the door," Lu Jiang answered his wife’s question, took the water, and drank it in one gulp, feeling warm throughout his body, "From what I gathered from Jin Laoqi, it seems he knows we are the ones he’s been dealing with. We must continue to be cautious in the future to prevent him from spreading the word."

Feng Qingxue sighed, "How come there are so many people with piercing insight? I’ve only met him once, and I didn’t even show my face, nor did I speak in the same voice as when we made the transaction. How could he be sure it’s us? If it weren’t for the fact that I went to deliver yak jerky to the neighbors yesterday, I wouldn’t even know that Jin Laoqi had been asking about our surname."

Lu Jiang shrugged his shoulders, put down the empty bowl, and took her into the bedroom, "Old folks like Jin Laoqi are all shrewd among the shrewd. It’s fine as long as he has no ill intentions towards us."

"You just said we need to be careful!" Feng Qingxue gave him an elegant eye roll.

Lu Jiang chuckled softly, "It’s a blessing not a curse; if it’s a curse, you can’t avoid it. We aren’t worried about our connection with Jin Laoqi, but rather about the possibility of him exposing our covert transactions. It concerns Jin Laoqi himself and he won’t advertise it, because once it gets out, he can’t escape being implicated in private dealings, which would add to his current predicament."

Feng Qingxue hummed in acknowledgment, "How many days can you stay here this time?"

"I can’t be sure about how long I’ll stay at home, but I will be in the Capital for a significant period. Whenever I’m free, I will come back to be with you," Lu Jiang said, aware of the national affairs through his wife and recognizing an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime which he needed to seize.

Feng Qingxue felt extremely pleased, life was entirely different whether her husband was by her side or not.

She had thought that his stay in the Capital would last at most a month or two, but to her surprise, he had stayed for more than half a year, from March to September, and during that time, he occasionally left the Capital to destinations unknown.

During this period, the atmosphere in the Capital was also different from usual, and Feng Qingxue hadn’t seen Wang Xinsheng, General Lu, and others for a long time.

After consulting historical records, Feng Qingxue quickly understood what was happening and knew that her husband had made a great contribution to this action. More and more people treated her warmly, including those at the school.

Unconsciously, a year had already passed since she enrolled.

Her program had a two-year curriculum, and she needed to continue her studies, but the worker-peasant-soldier students with a one-year schedule were about to graduate. Some were allocated jobs by the state, while others returned to their original posts.

Bidding farewell to the familiar military students one by one, Feng Qingxue welcomed the National Day.

The National Day was a major holiday and it granted a one-day leave. Lu Jiang was also in the Capital. On the evening of September 30th, Feng Qingxue hurriedly returned home after finishing work, and found Lu Jiang picking pomegranates with the children.

"I want the biggest one!" Lu Erxiong raised his face and stood with his hands on his hips.

Lu Jiang plucked a big pomegranate with red skin and tossed it over his shoulder; it landed delicately in the arms of his son, Erxiong.

Lu Erxiong, holding the big pomegranate, laughed heartily, "Dad, you’re the best, I like you the most!"

Fubao was dressed up prettily, pouting with dissatisfaction, "Dad, I want the highest one, the biggest pomegranate at the very top, and I won’t share it with Erxiong. He’s too naughty, he just stole Dundun’s egg cake!"
