Chapter 1429: Chapter 1429 College Career 1
Feng Qingxue hadn’t done physical labor for a long time; her ideological awareness wasn’t as high as everyone else’s. Whatever Zhou Haiyan, the company commander, arranged, she would labor accordingly, showing enthusiasm in attitude but lacking practical actions.
After three days of continuous work, the campus of Capital University was finally regaining some of its past charm.
The opening ceremony was held on September 1st, and classes began the next day, leading to many laughable incidents on the same day.
The recruited students varied in age and educational level, and those with lower educational levels couldn’t understand what the teachers were lecturing about in class, causing a noisy environment.
Half of the students, who were soldiers, included some who were peasants, some even only having primary school education.
Moreover, this teacher was just a teaching assistant, not a real university faculty.
Feng Qingxue had found out during these three days of labor that several thousand teachers and students of Capital University had been dispatched to rural areas for labor reformation. Now, besides the stationed propaganda teams and military indoctrination teams, these teaching assistants were the ones who acted most prestigious, yet they were students who had only attended college for a year and a half a few years ago, clearly insufficient to take on the responsibilities of a teacher.
Amidst the chaos, Feng Qingxue sat in a corner of the classroom, reading her own book.
She had learned French from her family elders, and because Xibao particularly loved foreign languages, she naturally worked even harder.
She couldn’t meddle in this mess, better not to speak out.
Those who understood complained about the poor teaching of the assistant, those who didn’t claimed the lessons were too profound; yet, the assistant couldn’t say anything rude to them, and thus, the morning’s classes ended just like that.
Others hurried to the cafeteria, holding food containers and Grain Tickets.
Nie Jianguo called out to Feng Qingxue, "Sister-in-law, give me your food container. I can move quickly and get to the front. You don’t need to squeeze in with those brothers; they all have habits developed in the army."
Feng Qingxue waved her hand, "You guys go ahead, I’m not in a hurry."
Ordering soldiers to serve one’s own needs to fetch food and wash food containers was a big taboo for Lu Jiang.
Now, being in a school and not in the army, Feng Qingxue was even more cautious.
Nie Jianguo scratched his head, "Okay then, sister-in-law, I’ll go first. Come quick, so you don’t miss out on the good food."
It’s unclear what he said to the soldiers at the front, but as soon as Feng Qingxue arrived at the cafeteria, they all made way for her, letting her go ahead to get food first.
This time, Feng Qingxue accepted their kindness without rejecting, continuously giving thanks.
The military students who gave way to her included those from the Viva Army and from all over the country. They harbored a humble and respectful admiration for any military family member, displaying a warm attitude not based on rank.
During university, there were no tuition fees, no accommodation fees, free meals, and even a stipend.
Feng Qingxue, with her student ID, Grain Ticket, and money, bought a mediocre meal consisting of coarse rice and some lightly-oiled, salt-free stir-fried vegetables, mixing them with rice for lunch.
Students in better conditions ate white rice and white steamed buns, and those in worse conditions ate dark bread or mixed grain buns.
The school, like society, showcased the various facets of life.
During meals, many students gathered in groups to discuss the morning’s classroom situation. Feng Qingxue quietly listened for a moment; it seemed like most classes were pretty similar to hers.
A total of sixteen to seventeen hundred students were recruited, with the number of students in each department being roughly the same, up to a little over a hundred, divided into two classes.
Oh, it can’t be said as classes now, but rather companies.
