Chapter 1398: Chapter 1398: Xibao Goes to School 6

Upon discovering that Xibao’s fourth-grade papers could score above ninety, especially with a math score of ninety-nine, everyone was amazed and full of praise for Xibao, even though they knew that the elementary school curriculum was very simple.

"Xibao is so awesome!"

"Xibao is really amazing, scoring ninety-nine in math!"

"Xibao could go straight to fifth grade. It’s simply genius for such a young child to be in the fifth grade."

Xibao proudly raised his little head, tossing the unhappiness he had felt before to the winds.

While Jin Ruochu explained problems to Xibao, Wen Ruyu whispered to Lu Jiang’s father, "Starting in the fourth grade is too high; he’s still so small. Aren’t you worried about others giving sideways glances if he studies with the older children? I think it would be better for Xibao to be in first or second grade. Children should act like children. Being too outstanding invites gossip, especially since schools nowadays are not focused on academics."

Lu Jiang’s father thought hard for a moment and nodded at Wen Ruyu, "I’ll discuss it with Xibao tonight and talk to Principal Xie tomorrow to have Xibao moved to the first or second grade. I’m just worried that Xibao won’t be happy about it."

Though young, Xibao had a strong competitive spirit.

"Just explain it to him well, and if he really doesn’t agree, bring Xiaoxue into it, saying it was her idea," Wen Ruyu said. He valued Feng Qingxue and, by extension, was extremely fond of Xibao, his little protégé. "Xibao listens to his mother the most, and it’s not like we would be deceiving him. Xiaoxue indeed mentioned before that Xibao should progress through school in the usual sequence."

Lu Jiang’s father grunted in agreement, remembering that Feng Qingxue indeed said she didn’t want their child to stand out too much.

Since time immemorial, the tree that stands out in the forest is the one most likely to be felled by the wind.

Looking at him, Wen Ruyu couldn’t help saying, "I know you adore Xibao and indulge him in everything, but he’s too young. So, many aspects of his life must still be arranged by us adults. We can’t allow him to do whatever he wishes."

"I understand," Lu Jiang’s father admitted guiltily. He indeed had focused too much on Xibao’s feelings and desires.

If it had been Lu Jiang, Lu Tianjun, Lu Tianzhi, Guan Cheng, or Guan Yu, he would never have indulged them so unconditionally.

"As long as you understand. Anyways, Xibao has set the bar very high; whether he is in the fourth grade or first or second grade doesn’t make much difference since he will be studying with us for most of the time and only his school registration will matter," Wen Ruyu reminded.

Lu Jiang’s father decisively broached the subject with Xibao that night before bed.

Just as Xibao was feeling very reluctant, Lu Jiang’s father continued, "Xibao, Grandpa has thought about this a lot. It’s to let you learn with Grandpa and Grandma for a few more years that I want you to be in first or second grade."

"Ah?" A big question mark flashed in Xibao’s eyes.

Lu Jiang’s father explained patiently, "Primary and junior high schools are in our brigade. Grandpa Xie can allow you to be registered without attending classes, and you just need to take exams. Grandpa believes you can definitely make it into junior high and high school. But high school is different. The high school is in the city, without teachers we know, and they won’t allow you to miss classes without reason. If you start from first or second grade, you can delay going to high school by two years, delaying the time you leave Grandpa and Grandma."

Xibao suddenly saw the light and turned his gaze toward the textbooks on the bedside table, "But I have already received the fourth-grade textbooks, Grandpa."

"No matter, I’ll talk to Grandpa Xie and have you moved to first grade. It doesn’t make much of a difference whether you change textbooks or not. But it’s still better to do so because you still need to attend school occasionally." Seeing his grandson soften, Lu Jiang’s father rejoiced and pressed his advantage, fearing he might change his mind.

Xibao immediately held up two fingers, "Second grade! I don’t want to be in the first grade!"

Lu Jiang’s father nodded, "Okay, second grade it is!" That was certainly better than the shock of going straight into fourth grade.
