Chapter 1360: Chapter 1360: Return Halfway 1

After dinner with Zheng Jinrui and his wife Chen Xueniang, the family boarded the train back to Baozhou.

As they boarded, snow began to flurry down in the Capital.

"I wonder if it’ll snow in Baozhou, we’re getting off the train in the middle of the night!" There wasn’t a very formal weather forecast back then.

Lu Jiang took Zhuangzhuang from his wife’s arms and casually responded, "Don’t worry, it’s fine, I’ve already contacted the military, and they will send two cars to pick us up, one for me and one for Comrade Chen."

Feng Qingxue hummed in acknowledgment as she wrapped Zhuangzhuang in a cotton cloak when she heard the announcement calling for a doctor.

"You take care of the child, I’ll go with Zhengkai and have a look," Feng Qingxue didn’t forget to grab her first aid kit.

She never went anywhere without that kit.

Lu Jiang wanted to replace Ping Zhengkai and accompany his wife, but it was clear that she was more worried about the children, so he cautioned her, "Be careful when you go, and come back immediately after you’ve dealt with it."

"Got it!"

Feng Qingxue rose and made her way through the aisle, reaching the sleeper carriage mentioned in the announcement in no more than two minutes, a compartment nonetheless.

Ping Zhengkai loudly announced her as a doctor, and everyone in the corridors, both passengers and conductors, made way, primarily because of Zhengkai’s military attire which stood out distinctly.

When they arrived, there was already one doctor attending to the patient.

Despite being skeptical due to her youth, the conductor hastily stepped aside when Feng Qingxue mentioned she was a doctor, as the middle-aged male doctor shook his head, indicating there was nothing more he could do.

"There’s no saving him."

The situation was critical, and Feng Qingxue pushed the doctor aside, moving closer to the patient.

The man in his seventies, suffering from heart disease, had a sudden onset of angina and was lying flat on the berth. Feng Qingxue, who had arrived late and from a distance, confirmed the middle-aged doctor’s assessment that the patient was indeed in a life-threatening condition.

Without hesitation, Feng Qingxue administered the life-saving medicine she had prepared—isosorbide dinitrate, quick-acting heart-saving pills—all differently named.

At the same time, she unbuttoned the old man’s shirt and loosened his collar.

She then placed a nitroglycerin tablet under his tongue. Although slower-acting than isosorbide dinitrate, it could dilate the coronary arteries, improve myocardial ischemia, and alleviate symptoms of angina.

Following this, she administered an injection, finally easing the old man’s expression. A middle-aged man accompanying the patient was extremely grateful to Feng Qingxue.

Though the patient’s condition was relieved quickly, he still needed to be taken to a hospital.

Feng Qingxue told the conductor, "His life is temporarily saved, and his condition has been mitigated, but this won’t last long; we must take this comrade to the hospital without delay."

The conductor was sweating with urgency, "But the train can’t turn back, and the best hospitals are definitely in the Capital!"

The determined middle-aged man said, "At the next station, we’ll get off immediately and head back to the Capital by car! And we’ll need this comrade to accompany us in case of any emergencies en route that we can’t handle."

The last sentence was addressed to Feng Qingxue, with sincere earnestness.

"Ah?" Feng Qingxue pointed at her own nose.

Seeing the middle-aged man nod, Feng Qingxue found herself unable to refuse, given the gravity of saving a life.

Moreover, she could tell that this old man must be a senior official.

After some thought, she said to Ping Zhengkai, "Please tell Ajiang that I’ll accompany this senior comrade. You go ahead with the children back home, and once the senior comrade is completely out of danger, I’ll come straight home."
