Chapter 1356: Chapter 1356: The Last Day 1

After leaving the old chief’s house, they proceeded to bid farewell to Wang Xinsheng and Guo Ming.

Upon hearing about their train the next evening, Wang Zhonghua’s tears immediately began to fall.

"Xibao, can you not leave, please? You’re already eight years old; we could go to school together." Although Xibao lived at the old chief’s place, Wang Xinsheng often took him there, rekindling their childhood friendship.

Xibao tiptoed, patted his shoulder, and said, "Huahua, be a man; men bleed, not cry!"

Wang Zhonghua pouted, "I’m not a man; I’m a young lad."

At that comment, everyone laughed.

"Alright, you’re a young lad, and I’m still a kid. Even if I did go to school, I’d have to start from the nursery class, while you’re already in the upper grades, so we couldn’t possibly go to school together!" Xibao was not so easily consoled. "We can write to each other, and when I have time to visit Grandpa, I’ll come to see you. Next time, don’t fail to solve such simple problems."

Xibao hadn’t learned just calligraphy, painting, and foreign languages from the group of old men and women; he was also adept at math. Such a simple math problem had baffled Wang Zhonghua completely, and Xibao quickly lost hope in the school’s education.

Indeed, the school didn’t teach much; this strengthened Xibao’s resolve to go home.

However, once out of the compound, his spirits sank.

He couldn’t bear to part with the old chief, nor with Wang Zhonghua or the kind group of grandpas and grandmas.

"What’s wrong? Aren’t you happy to see Mom and Dad? We’ll see your brother and sister once we’re back at the guest house," Feng Qingxue stroked her son’s head. After a few days apart, her son seemed to have undergone an indescribable change.

"I’ll miss Grandpa and Huahua and all of them!" Xibao hugged his mother’s waist and whispered softly, because nobody on the street was paying attention to them, "Grandpa’s health is getting worse. He can’t see clearly, and he coughs terribly. Guo Grandpa and many doctors I don’t know said it’s some kind of pneumonia and told Grandpa not to smoke, but he still smokes too much."

Feng Qingxue patted his back, "Don’t talk about it anymore, Dad and Mom are well aware."

Xibao grunted in acknowledgment.

After all, he was just a child, a young child without many cares in the world, and seeing his brother and sister soon distracted him from these worries. That’s because he saw Lu Erxiong push Dundun to the ground and snatch the thing in Dundun’s hand.

"Mine!" Lu Erxiong declared fiercely.

Dundun sat on the ground looking up at his younger brother, originally wanting to cry, but he stopped when he saw his parents and older brother come in.

He didn’t cry, but Lu Erxiong did. Once his dad caught him, he was thoroughly beaten, crying to the heavens and desperately calling for his mom. Seeing Feng Qingxue turning away in distress, the guards, along with Lu Tianzhi and Guan Yu, stepped forward to persuade him.

"Uncle, Erxiong is still young!" Lu Tianzhi said, moving his younger brother to the side to avoid Lu Jiang’s next slap.

Despite the evident restraint in Lu Jiang’s actions, it was still painful to watch.

"This child won’t learn his lesson if he’s not disciplined!" Lu Jiang exclaimed, eyes bulging with rage, which made Lu Erxiong cry even more, "He’s always hitting and grabbing things from others. If we don’t discipline him properly and let him feel pain, where will that lead us?"

Lu Tianzhi blinked his big eyes, "Uncle, Erxiong is just like you!"

Guan Yu nodded in agreement; they often heard the father recall the past, and Lu Erxiong now was just like Lu Jiang as a child. The old man had lamented more than once that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
