Chapter 1181: Chapter 1181: Bai Xue is Pregnant 5
Guo Xiuying shook her head without speaking.
Bai Xue’s attitude towards her stepson was naturally not right, but everyone was aware of those two children’s behavior, so no one blamed Bai Xue.
When Feng Qingxue got off the kang and started to move around, she suddenly remembered what Guan Cheng had mentioned yesterday and asked, "Sister Xiuying, Bai Xue, do you know any old revolutionary’s wife named Wang Xiangxue, about fifty years old?"
Guo Xiuying and Bai Xue were both startled and blurted out simultaneously, "Wang Xiangxue?"
"That’s right, she seems to be from Shanghai," said Feng Qingxue.
Bai Xue was the first to shake her head. "I’ve never heard that name before, never have."
Feng Qingxue looked towards Guo Xiuying. "Bai Xue doesn’t know. How about you, sister? Have you heard this name before?"
"Wang Xiangxue? Wang Xiangxue?" Guo Xiuying thought for a long time but couldn’t recall, "I haven’t heard it before; it’s possible she changed her name, or else I just don’t know her. Because of family reasons, I grew up in the military, and my father used to be an army doctor, so I’m acquainted with most of the anti-Japanese war generals and their families, but I’ve truly never heard the name Wang Xiangxue."
Feng Qingxue felt a bit disappointed. "Never mind then, I was just casually asking."
"Do you need to find this person for something important?" Not only was Guo Xiuying curious, but Bai Xue also widened her curious eyes. "I can ask Old Su later, he’s been at war for years and knows a lot of people."
Feng Qingxue smiled. "It’s nothing important, just inquiring for someone else."
Guo Xiuying and Bai Xue both took note of it, and that evening, when Bai Xue got home, she asked Su Junlin.
Su Junlin was surprised, "Why are you asking about her?"
"Just asking. Is there a problem?" Seeing Su Ping and Su An eating as if they had never been full in eight hundred years, smacking their lips and tossing the chopsticks they had sucked on back into the plates to turn over the food, Bai Xue was clearly unhappy and lost her appetite as well.
Su Junlin quickly moved the only dish the sons hadn’t messed up in front of Bai Xue and at the same time tapped the back of the hand of Su Ping, who was about to jab his chopsticks into the plate, and glared at him sternly before saying to his wife, "There’s nothing wrong with asking. It’s just been a long time since I’ve heard that name, it’s strange hearing it come from you suddenly."
Seeing the dish in front of her, Bai Xue’s mood improved a bit. "So, do you know Wang Xiangxue?"
"Yes," Su Junlin nodded. "She’s the wife of Zhou Xuekui, Chief of Staff Zhou. Didn’t you meet Sister Zhou when you stayed in the compound? Her birth name is Wang Xiangxue."
Bai Xue thought for a while, then suddenly said, "The Shanghai capitalist’s daughter?"
"That’s her."
Bai Xue had nothing to say because she, too, had once been envious of Wang Xuehai’s grace and sophistication.
Now she must be in her fifties. When Bai Xue saw Wang Xuehai in the compound, she had just turned fifty, yet the years seemed to have left no trace on her. Her skin was very white, her cheeks beautiful, she was so composed, so elegant, her hair done in a neat bun, dressed in a proper cheongsam, always wearing lipstick, and would sometimes spray some French perfume.
However, Wang Xuehai rarely left the house; in her free time, she would water the flowers and prune the bamboo in her small courtyard, living a rather capitalist lifestyle. Many people gossiped about her behind her back, calling her an old witch, something Bai Xue had overheard several times.
Even if she was being called an old witch, it was still worthwhile in Bai Xue’s eyes, who dreamed about spraying some perfume and applying some lipstick and rouge.
"Wait a minute, Old Su, you said Wang Xiangxue is Wang Xuehai, isn’t she the one who got into trouble? I seem to recall hearing someone say that Wang Xuehai and Chief of Staff Zhou were sent down to Shanbei Farm."
