Chapter 1176: Chapter 1176: Heading to the Frontier 6

Mother Yang and Grandmother Tian immediately felt a great burden lift from their shoulders.

After Lu Jiang dropped off his nephew at home, he hurriedly left, barely having time to glance at his wife and younger son.

Guan Cheng took on all the household chores that day, slaughtering chickens, stewing soup, cooking meals, frying dishes, washing diapers – skilled in every task. He could even help hold his two younger brothers, the third and fourth sons, while Lu Tianzhi and Guan Yu concentrated on caring for Xibao and Fubao.

Therefore, Mother Yang and Grandmother Tian only needed to take care of the third and fourth sons, while Tian Ling could help wash some clothes for Feng Qingxue.

"Qingxue, your nephew is truly capable. I’ve never seen a young man so skilled," Guan Cheng said, adding noodles to the chicken soup that had been stewing all day, cracking two eggs into it to make poached eggs, and tearing up some tender chicken leg meat to put into it before serving it to Feng Qingxue at the kang table. Tian Ling was full of praise for him.

Guan Cheng smiled sheepishly, telling Feng Qingxue, "Auntie, I’ve skimmed the floating oil off the soup. It’s very light, not greasy at all. You should eat it while it’s hot." He knew Feng Qingxue’s dietary preferences.

As soon as Feng Qingxue smelled the chicken soup, she couldn’t resist any longer.

It wasn’t that she was craving the meat but because the addition of two people at home made it inconvenient to use many ingredients. Often, Lu Jiang would stew pigeon or chicken soup for her in the middle of the night to drink in the morning, then dispose of the evidence before Tian Ling and Mother Yang came over.

So, she hadn’t really drunk such fresh chicken soup during the day, even though it was now evening, greatly changing her former habits.

It was their own home-raised old hen, so fragrant one could almost swallow their tongue.

Feng Qingxue had long realized that, despite purchasing free-range chicken eggs and chickens from the space, they still couldn’t compare to those of this era.

While enjoying the chicken soup, Guan Cheng made some noodles for Xibao and Fubao, each getting a poached egg as well – a large bowl for Xibao and a small one for Fubao, tailored to their appetites.

The kids swallowed their saliva and said in unison, "Thank you, Brother Acheng!"

They promptly climbed onto the kang and settled themselves. Xibao wielded his chopsticks like a hero in battle, while Fubao, a little over three years old, struggled to lift noodles with her chopsticks, and could only stare in distress. Guan Cheng quickly sat beside her to feed her.

"Acheng, you all eat together," Feng Qingxue, having just remembered in the middle of her meal that her nephews had come from afar and had not eaten yet.

Guan Cheng said with a smile, "We’ll eat after you’ve finished."

Tian Ling and Mother Yang would usually leave after dinner each day, but with Guan Cheng and his two brothers there, Feng Qingxue asked them to go home and rest earlier. The brothers had noodles as well, but theirs were plain noodles with scallions and cabbage in clear soup.

Feng Qingxue felt mixed emotions, "Acheng, don’t skimp for your uncle and me; our household isn’t in such straits."

"We only brought four old hens. If we stew half a chicken a day, they will be gone in eight days. It’s enough for Auntie and Xibao and Fubao to eat. For us, eating plain noodles isn’t bad," Guan Cheng said, while clearing away dishes. "Auntie, taking care of three younger brothers isn’t easy. You’ve become so frail. Now isn’t the time to worry about us."

"That’s right, Auntie, you need to take care of yourself – that’s what’s most important." Lu Tianzhi was extremely worried, sitting on the edge of the kang. "Auntie, you must eat and drink well, and recover soon."

"Don’t worry, I cherish my life more than anyone!" Feng Qingxue felt a warm feeling inside, "Has something happened at home?"

Guan Cheng didn’t want to burden her and wasn’t planning to mention the matter of his mother showing up, about to say it was nothing when Guan Yu, who couldn’t keep quiet, spilled everything to Feng Qingxue. "Auntie, big brother is definitely not getting married!"
