Chapter 103: Chapter 0103: Meeting of the Twin Beauties 3_1
Upon seeing Feng Qingxue return, Wang Jiao immediately halted and carefully scrutinized her appearance.
After catching the first glimpse of her, Wang Jiao felt relieved.
Qingxue’s sunburnt, dark face, coarse and messy eyebrows, seemingly connected in the middle, portrayed a hint of ferocity. Her cheeks were tainted with two patches of highland red, while soot stains were present on her face that she was unaware of. Wrapping herself in an army overcoat, with her hair in twists, she carried an undeniable earthy vibe and appeared enormously unkempt. Even her bright eyes could not compensate for her far from attractive appearance.
How was such a rustic village girl, with no education, a match for the tall and handsome Lu Jiang? How could she cope with the stature of a General’s wife? What credentials did she possess to mingle with the elite?
Having been a wealthy woman, Wang Jiao was too familiar with these considerations.
After attaining a secure position, many self-made businessmen, considering their original wives too crude and embarrassing, would substitute them with educated and graceful beauties who could make apt social appearances.
In fact, not a few officials did the same, maintaining numerous beautiful mistresses.
Wang Jiao was confident that based on her beauty and knowledge, she could fulfill her duty as Lu Jiang’s wife. Most importantly, having been reborn from thirty years in the future, having lived through the reform and opening-up, she had insights about the future unknown to many. Her foresight could help Lu Jiang in evading turmoil and seeking benefits, and her status could persuade her parents to protect Lu Jiang’s family. All these were aspects beyond the reach of Feng Qingxue.
God must have sent her back to her youth to restore her to happiness, to revel in splendor and wealth once again.
Wang Jiao had never taken Feng Qingxue seriously since the start, utterly despising her rural appearance. She straightforwardly stated, "Qingxue, I need to talk to you."
"Do my uncle and auntie have errands for me which you’ve come to communicate?" Feng Qingxue purposefully misconstrued.
Wang Jiao was momentarily stunned, "No, not my parents."
"If not my uncle and auntie, then why are you looking for me?"
Wang Jiao smoothly brushed her especially soft cheek, gelled with snow cream, and said modestly, "You ought to write a letter immediately and I will deliver it to Lu Jiang. The letter should say that you have had a change of heart. After careful consideration, you have decided to marry someone more suited to your status, calling off the wedding."
Feng Qingxue almost burst into laughter containing her wrath at Wang Jiao’s words.
How terribly overconfident and presumptuous for her to say such things?
It was so straightforward that it left one speechless.
"Cousin, you must be joking. A promise is a weighty matter to a man of principle. How can I break my vow? Furthermore, the matter of my marriage with Lu Jiang concerns our lives and is common knowledge. How can it be called off just like that?" Feng Qingxue’s lips curled up with mockery, "Lu Jiang and I knew about each other’s conditions before we met, so we wouldn’t nullify the wedding due to our social statuses."
Wang Jiao squinted, "Feng Qingxue, I’m just looking out for you. Do not be ungrateful!"
She stubbornly assumed that Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue were ill-matched, she fancied that Lu Jiang would definitely marry her instead of Feng Qingxue, and she arrogantly thought that advanced Lu Jiang would certainly reject Feng Qingxue’s coarse ignorance.
So, all this was for Feng Qingxue’s benefit; if she backed out now, in the future, she wouldn’t be the thrown-away wife after Lu Jiang’s advancement.
"Looking out for me? Cousin, your words are quite strange. Calling off my wedding is for my benefit? Why do I feel that it’s not for my good, but rather an attempt to ruin my happiness?" No sooner had Feng Qingxue finished her words, than a hint of unease flashed in Wang Jiao’s eyes.
