Chapter 1017: Chapter 1017: Xibao’s Birthday 6
Wang Jiao was rendered speechless by her younger cousin’s retort and could only glare in frustration as she took the empty basket outside.
Goudan covered his mouth, snickering secretly with his eyes curving into crescents.
A moment later, Wang Jiao came back with the basket and thrust it into Feng Qingyun’s hands, then pushed her out the door, "You better go now. I don’t want to talk to you, you always have to throw a few digs at me. Go back and tell Xiaoxue I’ll visit her tomorrow, and she’s not allowed to go out anymore."
Feng Qingyun looked at the chicken, duck, and goose eggs in the basket and unapologetically took it away.
As soon as Wang Jiao had shut the door, she opened the box of cream cake and immediately became intoxicated by the sweet aroma, promptly placing half on a plate and storing the rest in the cabinet in its box, along with some other items.
When she had locked the cabinet and returned, Wang Jiao saw her two sons drooling over the cream.
"Alright, alright, Goudan, have a little taste, but not you, Yangdan, you’re too small." Wang Jiao scooped a large spoonful into her mouth, then a smaller half-spoonful into Goudan’s mouth, following with another big spoonful for herself.
Almost three-quarters of the small cake ended up in Wang Jiao’s stomach, but Goudan was still very happy.
"Mom, the cream cake is so delicious, and Big Cousin Auntie is so nice!" Goudan patted his belly, "When I grow up, I’ll work just like Dad, earn good money, and buy cream cakes for Big Cousin Auntie! And for Brother Xibao!"
Wang Jiao said unhappily, "Why would you buy for Big Cousin Auntie and Xibao, but not for me?" Such an ungrateful child!
"Big Cousin Auntie is so kind to me, Mom, have you forgotten? She often brings us tasty treats and even bought me a tin frog!"
Goudan didn’t care what his mother thought; after he said this, he ran to the table, wound up the tin frog, and let it hop around on the surface.
Yangdan began to coo and chuckled, his eyes gleaming brightly.
When Zhang Yuejin came home from work and saw the tin frog on the table, he was stunned for a moment, "Where did it come from? What about Xibao’s? But I remember Xibao’s tin frog has been played with for several days, showing signs of wear and tear. It’s not this new."
Goudan immediately replied, "Big Cousin Auntie bought it for me, she gave us lots of delicious food, and I got to eat the yummy cake!"
Zhang Yuejin turned to look at his wife, who was eating.
Just as Wang Jiao was about to speak, having swallowed her food, Zhang’s mother, holding Yangdan, said with a smile, "Jiaojiao’s cousin is really nice, she always thinks of Jiaojiao whenever she gets something tasty, and the milk powder Yangdan is drinking at night was given by her."
As for Wang Jiao taking the family’s saved chicken, duck, and goose eggs to Feng Qingxue, her grandmother didn’t mind at all.
Zhang Yuejin hummed in acknowledgment and pointed at the pig offal he had brought home, "I’ll clean it up later, and we’ll give them half of everything. Tomorrow is Xibao’s birthday, so we’ll add a dish to their meal."
"Tomorrow is Xibao’s birthday? Oh my! Isn’t it the eighth of April!" Wang Jiao smacked her forehead.
"It’s alright; I remembered. You just take care of yourself." Zhang Yuejin said with a smile, watching his wife’s exasperated expression.
"Yuejin, you’re so nice!" At that moment, Wang Jiao was very sweet, "I saved half a piece of the cream cake for you. Don’t forget to eat it later."
Upon hearing this, Yuejin’s eyes squinted into slits.
"I won’t eat it. You should eat it yourself. You should nourish yourself now that you’re pregnant, so you won’t have trouble with milk supply later. Just give Goudan a couple of bites when you eat," he said, adamant about not eating, feeling as satisfied as if he had eaten it, utterly sweet.
