Chapter 1015: Chapter 1015: Xibao’s Birthday 4
Goudan quickly delivered the tin frog, and when he placed it on the table, he seemed quite reluctant to part with it. "Big Cousin Auntie, can I come play with Brother Xibao’s tin frog tomorrow? I can have Grandpa make Brother Xibao a new spinning top."
"Does Goudan really like the little frog?"
Hearing Feng Qingxue’s question, Goudan nodded vigorously, "Yeah, I really like it. Big Cousin Auntie, Brother Xibao is so nice, he lets us play with all his fun toys. Little Douzi dropped the little frog once, and Brother Xibao didn’t even get mad. If you so much as touch Brother Shi Mo’s toys, he would come charging over to hit us. I don’t want to play with him anymore, I want to play with Brother Xibao."
Feng Qingxue didn’t know who Little Douzi was, nor did she know who Brother Shi Mo he was referring to.
Feng Qingyun explained from the side: "Little Douzi is Brother Dachun’s youngest son, Shi Mo is my Little Aunt’s grandson, recently my aunt’s cousin often brings her children over to my Little Aunt’s house to freeload, just like Cousin Wang Jiao often goes to my uncle’s house to freeload." But now, Wang Jiao seems to be doing much better than my Little Aunt’s family.
Feng Qingxue nodded her head, indicating that she understood, and then took out a new tin frog from her luggage and placed it in Goudan’s hand.
At first, she was worried that Xibao would break it, so she bought a few extras. Now she was secretly glad that she could give one away.
"Big Cousin Auntie?" Goudan looked at the tin frog in his hand with astonishment, his eyes wide and round.
Only at times like this did Feng Qingxue see some resemblance to Wang Jiao on his face, his eyes, most of all, were like Wang Jiao’s.
"Big Cousin Auntie is giving this to you. Keep it in your pocket and take it home. Tell Grandma, Grandpa, Dad, and Mom that Big Cousin Auntie bought it for you from the Capital. If someone else asks, tell them that your Dad and Mom bought it for you. Got it?"
Goudan held the tin frog in both hands, his mouth agape, a look of disbelief on his face.
"Big Cousin Auntie, you’re giving this to me?" Goudan stuttered.
Feng Qingxue wore a warm smile, "Yes, it’s for you. Take it home to play with your younger brother, and don’t tell anyone else."
"Thank you, Big Cousin Auntie, thank you! Now I have a tin frog too, I am so happy!" Goudan joyfully spun around the room, then carefully placed it in his trouser pocket, covering it with his hand, unwilling to let go.
Seeing how he was, Feng Qingyun picked up the basket, "Sister, I’ll walk Goudan home."
He was so occupied with the tin frog, how could he care about carrying a basket?
It was soon going to be the busy farming season, and Wang Jiao couldn’t escape her share of the work. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have any grain by the end of the year, so she came home early to stay. But lately, she had been suffering from severe morning sickness, and her in-laws hadn’t let her do any fieldwork. Now she was sitting on the threshold, cracking sunflower seeds, letting her youngest, Yangdan, roll around on an old mat. Seeing the basket in Feng Qingyun’s hands, Wang Jiao’s eyes lit up.
"Xiaoyun, what’s in your basket?" With a whoosh, Wang Jiao stood up, not even paying attention to her sons.
Feng Qingyun was accustomed to her attention being fixated only on food and said with a smile, "Cousin, I brought you something tasty. Are you not going to let me in to talk? I don’t want to be in the sun."
The moment Wang Jiao heard that, she wished she could see what was in the basket right then and there, "Come in, come in quickly."
Once they were in her family’s main room, Wang Jiao put her son on the table without delay and eagerly lifted the coarse cloth. "Wow," she exclaimed, "has your sister come back? It must be her; no one else could bring back so much delicious food."
"Hold on!" Feng Qingyun slapped her hand away and carefully carried the cardboard box to the table and placed it down.
