Chapter 90: Chapter 89: Asking the Rain God

"Mianmian? Mianmian?" Gu Youyou approached Mianmian, who seemed lost in thought, and called out her name very softly by her ear.

She had learned this authentic secret-telling technique from her mom. Seeing Mianmian daydreaming, she was afraid of startling her, so she used it.

But the voice was too low, and it was obviously ineffective as Mianmian still stared at the sky with her little head tilted back.

After some thought, Gu Youyou brought over a little stool, sat next to Mianmian on the left, and took the initiative to hold Mianmian’s little hand. After doing so, she didn’t forget to reach her head over to peek at Chu Ye and make faces at him.

Seeing Gu Youyou’s little antics, Chu Ye didn’t react and just looked at Mianmian with concern.

Mianmian had mentioned "an omen," and Chu Ye had learned from his dad what that roughly meant—it wasn’t a good thing. Mianmian was worried that something bad would happen, and he didn’t know much about these things, unsure of how to help Mianmian.

If he had known this would happen, he should have accepted the Daoist Master’s offer to take him as an apprentice back at the Daoist Temple!

Chu Ye felt a twinge of regret.

Amid the drizzling rain, Xu Weiwei arrived with Wang Ze. Wang Ze had his own Ultraman-themed children’s umbrella, his feet covered in plastic bags, holding Xu Weiwei’s hand.

Xu Weiwei had only brought an umbrella before leaving, not having thought to bring a raincoat.

When she arrived, she noticed Liu Hui helping Gu Youyou take off her raincoat and couldn’t help but say, "Hui sister, you really think of everything. I didn’t even think to bring one, just two umbrellas."

Liu Hui smiled, "When you have kids with you, you have to be a bit more prepared. I didn’t spend much time with Youyou before, so before coming here, I sought advice from netizens and learned that there’s so much you need to prepare when bringing kids along."

Upon hearing Liu Hui’s words, Xu Weiwei’s eyes lit up, "So Hui sister is the same? Me too, I never had the chance to spend time with my Zeze."

Liu Hui tenderly held the children’s raincoat in her hand, "Yes, indeed..."

The two mothers naturally started talking about parenting, and Liu Hui recommended many parenting books to Xu Weiwei. While the two mothers chatted happily, Wang Ze had already wriggled out of Xu Weiwei’s grasp and also dragged a stool over to sit right in front of Mianmian.

Mianmian didn’t even realize she was surrounded by her pals. She had opened her Heavenly Eye and was trying to predict the outcome of future events repeatedly, but no matter how she tried, she couldn’t figure it out.

"Owww!" Suddenly, Bai Bai leaped over Chu Ye’s head and landed on Mianmian’s lap.

This sudden commotion finally brought Mianmian back to her senses.

She blinked and noticed chicken feathers near Bai Bai’s mouth, immediately asking, "Bai Bai, did you eat Dahuang and Xiaohuang again?"

Upon hearing this, Bai Bai looked pitifully miserable, "Wuu wuu wuu."

A little puppy acting wronged really looked especially pitiful with its watery eyes, causing the audience to burst into laughter.

"Cheep cheep cheep!" The chicks’ chirping suddenly rang out.

The two little chicks came down from the stairs, indicating they were all right.

Mianmian quickly apologized to Bai Bai, "You didn’t eat them? Sorry about that."

After she finished speaking, she looked up and realized Wang Ze was in front of her. She glanced to the left and saw Gu Youyou.

"How come you’re all sitting beside me?"

Gu Youyou said with a smile, "Because Mianmian was deep in thought, and mom said not to disturb someone who’s thinking, so I sat next to Mianmian to wait for her."

Wang Ze nodded his head in agreement.

"Now that all the children are here, let’s play a game of hide-and-seek," Director Hu announced through the megaphone, "We’ll draw lots to decide who’s ’it’. The last person found gets a ’good person’ card, and if ’it’ finds everyone, they also get a ’good person’ card. Let’s begin now."

"Oh, and Ying Fang and Ying Miao will join in too."

The two little zombies, who had been standing quietly under the eaves, daydreaming, looked curiously at the megaphone when their names were called.

With Director Hu saying it was game time, everyone cooperated and started drawing lots.

Mianmian was a little annoyed, but knowing that they were in the middle of a group activity, she understood she should join in. So she temporarily set aside her concerns and started playing along.

In the first draw, Su Chenfei was the seeker.

Everyone had to hide within the house while he closed his eyes to count. As he began counting, everyone started looking for places to hide.

Ying Fang and Ying Miao, the siblings, stuck together as always, and they hid in the kitchen. Once they closed the door, they were effectively hidden. Mianmian hid in the upstairs wardrobe, with Gu Youyou right beside her.

The other players found their hiding spots as well, and the first game began.

Su Chenfei first found the sibling zombies, but he didn’t find Chu Ye.

Chu Ye got a good person card for that.

The game went on and on until the children were all tired out and took a halftime break. Everyone sat in the living room downstairs, chatting when Li Gao came in with Li Yang.

"Sorry to interrupt, my son said he wants to play with Mianmian, he’s brought toys. I don’t know if that’s okay?"

The game had ended, and it was break time—that of course was fine.

The toys Li Yang brought were a whole set of LEGO, and Wang Ze also liked playing with this kind of building game. He and Li Yang hit it off really well.

The fun-filled day quickly passed, but the rain didn’t stop the next day.

And it rained on the third day, the fourth day as well.

This unusual weather even caught the attention of experts. It’s not normal for this area to have so much rain in the summer, so why has it become so aberrant?

All major platforms were reporting this strange weather.

The guests had experienced every childhood game there was until there were no more games left to play.

The villagers were very worried.

The continuous heavy rain had submerged all the crops, and if it kept going like this, they could lose their entire harvest.

Seeing how worried the grandparents were, Mianmian could no longer hold back. Just like she would write a letter to the ghost gods of the Underworld, she also had ways to contact other fairies.

However, her mom had told her that she shouldn’t use these methods at whim, as it could trouble the fairies.

Now that the rain had been pouring for so long and water was starting to gather on the ground, the abnormal weather might lead to natural disasters—it wouldn’t be bothering the fairies without good reason. It could also be an opportunity to find out if what the villain they previously caught said was true, that the fairies were all asleep.

Mianmian made up her mind and started to prepare.

Contacting the fairies in heaven is different from contacting the ghost gods of the Underworld—she only needed to recite a spell. However, her mom said that when she invited fairies, those from heaven are more particular about appearances than those from the underworld, so to show respect, one should clean oneself up a bit.

Mianmian washed her hands carefully, washed her face, and then ran into her room to dab on some perfume.

Throughout this process, Chu Ye and Gu Youyou were constantly by her side.

All these actions made Gu Youyou who was beside her curious, "Mianmian, why are you suddenly washing your hands and face? Didn’t you wash this morning?"

While dabbing on perfume, Mianmian said, "I need to contact..."

She glanced at the camera.

Could she talk about this? Her seventh grandchild had said that it was fine to talk about these things now, and it wouldn’t matter, right?

"I’ll ask my seventh grandchild if I can say this first," Mianmian said, pulling Gu Youyou over to Su Chenfei.

The adult guests were all chatting while sitting down. Chu Qi was very busy and rarely appeared. Only Chu Ye and the other two children followed Mianmian like little followers.

Mianmian leaned in close to Su Chenfei, "Seventh grandchild, I’m thinking of asking the Rain Fairy why it keeps raining here. Can I tell Youyou?"
