Baby Serendipity: The Whole World Fell In Love With Me -
Chapter 398 - 397: Not Found
Chapter 398: Chapter 397: Not Found
Because it was late at night when they arrived at the Orphanage, the staff there were not expecting visitors.
Seeing two adults bringing a child in for a visit, the elderly security guard hurriedly called for the person in charge to come over.
The director of the Orphanage, a middle-aged woman, came out and asked, "I’m An Ran, the director of the Orphanage. You haven’t made an appointment. May I ask, what brings you to our Orphanage so late?"
Su Chenfei didn’t beat around the bush, "We’re looking for someone. Could you please gather everyone from the Orphanage so we can take a look?"
It was indeed strange to arrive and immediately ask to find someone.
An Ran’s probing gaze fell on the Su brothers, then she looked down at the Little Bun standing between the two adults, "Sorry, but without a reason, I can’t comply with your request."
"We can help you," Mianmian stared at An Ran’s Wealth Palace, "You’ve been having some trouble lately, haven’t you?"
It caught An Ran off guard that a child would mention the troubles she was facing.
While hesitating, she suddenly felt that the Little Bun standing on the ground looked somewhat familiar.
After thinking for a moment, she exclaimed in surprise, "Are you the Su Family’s Little Auntie?"
Mianmian nodded, "Yes, that’s me. Do you recognize me as well?"
An Ran revealed a smile, "I’ve seen your live-stream."
With Mianmian’s candid admission of her identity, An Ran instantly relaxed and gestured for them to follow with an inviting hand.
"Since it’s the Su Family’s Little Auntie, why don’t you take a seat here? I’ll go call everyone from the Orphanage over."
An Ran went to gather people while Su Chenfei and Su Chenyan took a seat on the waiting chairs in the Orphanage hall.
Mianmian did not sit down, instead looking around at the Orphanage’s surroundings.
"Does our family own an Orphanage?"
She turned to ask Su Chenyan and Su Chenfei.
The brothers nodded, "Yes, there’s one to the south of the city. Our eldest brother invested in building it ten years ago. Little Auntie, would you like to go have a look? Speaking of which, some children from the village had also been taken in by the Orphanage."
"Not for the time being," Mianmian shook her head. Upon hearing Su Chenfei mention the village, she remembered she had not thought about those who had suffered for a long time.
This wasn’t good.
Mianmian touched her own bald head.
But there was no helping it, she was always so busy, and when busy she would forget these things.
Seeing Mianmian look a bit more troubled, Su Chenfei quickly asked, "What’s wrong, Little Auntie? Is there a problem with the Orphanage?"
"No, it’s just that Mianmian was thinking of the people we previously rescued in Yide Village who had suffered hardships. Mianmian forgot to ask how they were doing now."
Su Chenyan said, "I actually know about this. Those girls have all started working now, and the children are staying at our family’s Orphanage, and they are doing well. That’s what the second brother said."
"That’s wonderful," Mianmian smiled. "The Seventh Grandchild is amazing!"
Hearing Mianmian praise the second brother made Su Chenfei restless, "Little Auntie, aren’t I, the Seventh Grandchild, amazing as well? You can’t forget about me just because I haven’t been at home for a while, or else I am going to cry."
Su Chenfei wore a look of aggrieved innocence on his face.
Su Chenyan grinned, "Old Seven, with that tone, the fifth brother is beginning to suspect you’ve turned into the youngest sister."
Su Chenfei didn’t care what Su Chenyan said and kept his attention on Mianmian, eager to hear her praise him as well.
With eyes full of hurt, he entirely pulled at Mianmian’s heartstrings.
"The Seventh Grandchild is wonderful too, and the Fifth Grandchild did a great job solving problems on his own today," Mianmian said, climbing onto the chair to reach up and pat Su Chenfei’s head.
She couldn’t help it; Su Chenfei’s expression was just too similar to Bai Bai’s.
While the Little Bun was consoling her two younger relatives, several Orphanage staff approached. There were men and women, all middle-aged.
The Leader smiled and said, "Dean An Ran told us you were looking for someone. These are all the staff members of our Orphanage; you met the security guard at the gate, and you’ve also met Dean An Ran, that only leaves us. Dean An Ran is taking care of the children, so we can only meet you briefly before returning to our duties."
Indeed, they too found this sudden visit to find someone quite inexplicable. They were all of a certain age and knew their own origins; it was not as though a family of relatives had suddenly emerged from nowhere.
As everyone felt uneasy, Mianmian looked each of them over, seeing their fates clearly, and shook her head, "Sorry for calling you all over, but none of you are the person Mianmian is looking for. Can I go with you to find the dean?"
"Of course, this way please."
Mianmian hopped off the chair and followed.
She now deeply understood the meaning of every advantage having its downside. Not being able to see the future of the Fairy or those deeply connected to her did make her anxious, but it was quite convenient when it came to finding people.
For instance, right now, she could tell at a glance that none of these people were the ones she was looking for.
At the back of the Orphanage were the living quarters for the Little Friends. The staff dispersed, leaving only the women to lead the way.
When they arrived, the Leader said, "Our dean is in the Nursery Room taking care of an infant who was brought in yesterday. This poor little infant had a tragic start. His father was taking his mother to the Hospital for childbirth when they were hit by a car. The baby was delivered by emergency caesarean and survived, but both the mother and father didn’t make it, leaving us no choice but to bring the baby to the Orphanage."
Upon hearing this, both Su Chenfei and Su Chenyan’s eyes flashed with sympathy.
Mianmian felt the same, pressing her small lips together in silence.
When she was learning fortune telling, her mother said that one should not get too emotionally involved. There were too many people suffering in the world. You could feel compassion and help within your capacity, but you should not take it too much to heart.
Perhaps this person had a miserable life, but maybe they had done wrong in a past life and had come to pay for it in this life?
That’s the principle of cause and effect.
The speaker had been thinking these visitors lacked compassion.
But turning around, she was surprised to see mist in the eyes of the two men and the child.
She paused, uncertain what else to say.
It wasn’t that they lacked compassion; they were just too heartbroken for the infant to speak. And she couldn’t ask for more; after all, everyone has their own life to lead. Having compassion is commendable on its own; it’s unreasonable to force someone to make sacrifices for strangers.
"Dean..." After entering the room, noticing that the infant was asleep, one woman lowered her voice and approached Dean An Ran before continuing, "The guests said that none of the people from our Orphanage were the ones they were looking for, so I led them here."
"All right, let’s go outside to talk," the dean replied softly.
Mianmian stood at the door, observing the Nursery Room.
The room had three cribs, with the infants all asleep inside.
Once the dean had come out, she walked over to Mianmian and gently closed the door.
"The person you’re looking for is not at our Orphanage, is that right?"
Hearing this, Mianmian also felt troubled.
She wanted to ask the dean if anyone had left the Orphanage ahead of time.
