Chapter 338: Chapter 337: Back-to-School Gifts for the Family
Mianmian’s car had already entered the Manor, with the Butler leading the Servants to welcome the masters home, and he had even considerately brought Mianmian’s favorite Candied Hawthorn right to her.
There were three sticks of it!
Mianmian found this strange, "Oh my, why did they prepare so many Candied Hawthorns for Mianmian?"
Old Lady Su had even said not to let her eat them.
The house didn’t have much sugar left, and she had not managed to finish the Candied Hawthorn from the gift box that Chu Ye’s mother had given earlier.
Old Lady Su always said it would cause cavities and limited her sugar intake.
Mianmian knew that eating too much sugar wasn’t good, so she hadn’t secretly eaten any. Mainly because when she got busy, her little head would forget these things and she wouldn’t even think about them.
Just like drinking milk, she said she wanted more but fell asleep as soon as she became busy, and then she just never thought of it again.
"This is a surprise prepared by Old Lady Su to celebrate your first day of school," said the Butler, bowing to Mianmian and handing the Candied Hawthorn to Mianmian, who was being held by Su Chenyan.
Mianmian reached out to take them, and the three sticks of Candied Hawthorn, held in her chubby little hands, were spread wider than her little face.
The Candied Hawthorn prepared by the Su family, was, of course, of superior quality.
Holding it in her hand, Mianmian could smell the scent of the sugar mixed with the slight sour aroma of hawthorn fruit.
She couldn’t help but slurp, afraid her saliva would dribble down.
Good food should be shared with family and good friends, but Mianmian still felt it odd, "Where are Bai Bai and the others? Why haven’t they come over?"
They had made a fuss about going to school with her that morning, but after hearing from Su Chenjin that they couldn’t go to school, they threw a fit and ran off.
"Oh no, there’s also Liao An, Ying Fang, and Ying Miao. I forgot to pick them up."
Mianmian felt very guilty.
She had planned on collecting her two grandnephews after school, and was so preoccupied with her live-stream that she forgot about these three good friends.
Little Bun’s eyes became timid and Old Lady Su could tell right away, smiling, "Aren’t you in a hurry to live-stream? Besides, they are remembered by the younger generations in our hearts, we won’t forget about them. Chenyan, put Little Auntie down and let Little Auntie walk on her own."
From the moment they got out of the car, Su Chenyan had been holding Mianmian until now, and while he wasn’t yet tired of Little Auntie, he still put Little Auntie down.
Mianmian tilted her head to look at Old Lady Su. "Is there something going on inside?"
The Servants, dressed in uniform, were lined up in two rows at the entrance. With so many people standing together, the path seemed very long.
Old Lady Su did not answer Mianmian’s question, she merely told Mianmian to keep walking forward.
So, holding the still unopened Candied Hawthorn, Mianmian took one step at a time until she reached the far end.
It was only after a lot of walking that she found the path lined with many, many balloons. These balloons were bundled together, guiding her to continue forward.
What in the world was going on?
Mianmian followed the balloon-path and walked all the way to the back garden entrance on the first floor.
The moment she took a step toward the entrance, two ’pop’ sounds startled her.
Some confetti fluttered to the ground, glistening in the light.
Mianmian glanced to the left and saw Ying Fang. Looking to the right, she saw Ying Miao.
The siblings were actually holding back smiles.
Mianmian was shocked, "When did you guys learn to smile?"
Living together every day, she was unaware of her friends’ changes. After asking, Mianmian’s face turned red, feeling very embarrassed, "Mianmian lives with you every day, and only now I learned that you can smile. I’m not a qualified good friend of yours."
However, Ying Fang said, "How could that be? It’s perfectly normal for you not to know because my sister and I wanted to give you a surprise."
Ying Miao also smiled, her tone as gentle as that of a younger sister, "You just focus on your business, and we’ll do what we need to do. It’s okay if you forget to pick us up, we are so old, we can get home by ourselves."
They weren’t ordinary children who would fuss over who should come to pick them up after school.
They were zombies who had lived for over a thousand years. Even if they only stayed in a cave, they had long been accustomed to the world by various means.
Mianmian, who initially wanted to recognize them as masters, was indeed feeling guilty over such a small matter, something the siblings had not anticipated.
Both lowered their eyes to gaze tenderly at the little bun.
"In the future, we will learn even more expressions," Ying Fang added. "When we do, we’ll show them to you first."
Bai Bai, who had been standing a little further away with a cylinder of sparklers beside him, ran over with a pattering of feet upon hearing this, howling to express his dissatisfaction: What do you mean, learn more expressions in the future? Show Mianmian first? No way, not allowed!
Liao An also joked, "No wonder every time I pass by your room, I see you standing in front of the mirror in a daze, I thought it was some special cultivation method of you zombies. But it turns out you were practicing expressions to surprise Mianmian and to make her like you more! Stop showing off, even as a snake demon I’m not as good at it as you."
Liao An’s teasing made Mianmian anxious, "No, no, you don’t have to do this; Mianmian likes you guys just the way you are."
She opened the candied hawthorn in her hand and passed it over, "You guys share this stick of candied hawthorn. Mianmian has smelled it, it’s really tasty."
Bai Bai woofed and took the candied hawthorn, urging Mianmian to keep going.
He didn’t want to see Mianmian having fun with the zombies and the snake.
Mianmian continued to walk forward, encountering more sparklers and the like.
When she reached the innermost part of the garden, her eyes widened.
At the very back was a huge painting. The top depicted a deep blue sea and sky, below was a beautiful sandy beach. This painting, Mianmian remembered seeing a similar one during her first meeting with her second grandnephew in his studio.
Only in this painting, there was a child under the sun, whose side profile showed a smile, joyfully running on the beach.
"So beautiful! It’s so beautiful!" Mianmian repeated, pointing at the child in the painting and asking, "That’s Mianmian, right?"
The little girl had two small buns in her hair and was wearing the same outfit Mianmian wore when she came down the mountain. Her chubby side profile was visible.
This was painted by her second grandnephew!
Mianmian looked at Su Chenyi walking over with the twins and Lu Xuan, her eyes full of bright lights, clearly surprised.
With tenderness, Su Chenyi said, "This is the painting I promised you, my gift for your school preparation."
Moving beyond gratitude, Mianmian’s gaze then fell on Su Chaoyu and Su Chaoyang. Before she could speak, Lu Xuan added, "Our family also has a painting, it’s in our bedroom, all painted by Chenyi."
The twins, who were a bit sullen at first for not being included in their dad’s painting, immediately smiled upon hearing this, "Really? Is it really a painting of our family?"
Su Chenyi confirmed, "Of course, you can see it when you go back to the bedroom."
As he spoke, Su Chenyi felt grateful to the little auntie. He had hit a creative block, his paintings were all technique and no emotion, and he would numbly stare at the canvas in his studio every day.
If it hadn’t been for the little auntie’s arrival from the mountains, he might have continued in this dejected state until he could no longer paint anything at all. He wouldn’t have been able to improve his relationship with his sons, nor would there have been a chance to meet his beloved once more.
"Please continue walking inside," Su Chenyi said, "There’s something else in there."
