Chapter 238: Chapter 237: Tormenting Yang Xian
"Finding this dog took quite a bit of effort." Su Chenjin spoke indifferently, "You’re eighteen this year?"
Yang Xian gathered his thoughts, forced himself to remain calm, and answered, "Hmm."
"It’s good to feel confident in your abilities when you’re young and spirited, but a smart person should choose a more suitable path." Su Chenjin took a deep look at the fist Yang Xian was clenching and stood up. "Take Maomao away yourself."
The road back was too bumpy, and now that it was deep into the night, Su Chenjin had no intention of returning to the Su Family Manor.
Fortunately, there was a villa he had bought when he was younger nearby, which was always kept clean, and now it would serve as a good resting place.
After Su Chenjin left, Yang Xian stared at his receding figure until someone suddenly patted his shoulder.
Without hesitation, Yang Xian grabbed the hand, intending to throw the person over his shoulder, but he couldn’t move them.
The person who had patted him was Daoist Master Qing Xu.
Qing Xu had just discussed matters with Su Chenjin. The two had each other on Whatsapp, typing and chatting in a hushed manner so as not to disturb Mianmian.
Now that Su Chenjin had left and even spoke to Yang Xian specially, Qing Xu was also curious about Yang Xian, so he patted his shoulder.
Who knew Yang Xian’s reaction would be so intense!
However, as the master of the observatory, Qing Xu was not the frail old man he appeared to be on the surface. Unshaken, he smiled and gazed at Yang Xian, "Young man, you’re very quick to react."
Being referred to as "young" twice in a row made Yang Xian feel somewhat rebellious. "Haven’t you guys also been young?"
Qing Xu’s smile was genial, "Well, you’ve made a correct point. When I was your age, I hauled four loads of water twice a day from a well ten miles away down the mountain back to the observatory, a to-and-fro trip that took two hours. Now it’s different."
If it were someone with intense curiosity, they might immediately ask, "You can’t do it now?"
But Yang Xian simply sized up Qing Xu with a skeptical look and remained silent.
Not hearing any question from Yang Xian, Qing Xu had no choice but to continue on his own, "Now, I, the old Daoist, can carry ten loads of water at a time and do a trip in just 10 minutes. What do you think, do you want to be like me?"
Yang Xian remained silent.
Qing Xu raised his hand and pointed to his forehead, "I’ve seen it, old Daoist I. It seems you’ve opened the Heavenly Eye, but you still can’t control it. Do you want some help from me?"
Yang Xian covered his forehead.
In fact, he had felt something similar.
Seeing Mianmian’s Green and Mianmian’s wooden figure, it was as if there was an extra eye helping to do these things.
Not until he heard what Qing Xu said did he realize that the spot was in the middle of his forehead.
"I don’t need your help." Yang Xian thought of the statue of Yang Jian with its third eye and resisted, "I don’t need to open any Heavenly Eye!"
He was Yang Xian, not Yang Jian! Nobody was going to make him into someone else!
Even though he was refused, Qing Xu did not get angry.
He smiled, then pointed toward Yang Xian’s pocket.
"There’s something special in your sleeve pocket."
Yang Xian reached into the sleeve pocket of his ancient official’s garb and indeed pulled out two yellow talismans.
"This is the Vajra Protecting Talisman, it can protect you from all methods of harm. As for the other one, I, the old Daoist, am uninformed; perhaps it’s a talisman uniquely created by the young miss’s family, huh? A talisman cannot come into contact with water, once it gets wet it loses its effect." Qing Xu stroked his beard and shook his head, "The young miss seems young, but she is clever indeed. Truly worthy of the Jiang Family bloodline."
Yang Xian did not know where these talismans had come from; he stared at them for a long time.
When he looked up again, Yang Xian found that Qing Xu and his disciples had already left.
Yang Xian rolled up Maomao No.2’s dog skin in one hand, and held the yellow talisman in the other, starting to walk out.
This cave was also part of the Film and Television City; after exiting this area, he could see that there were still crews working through the night, rushing to meet deadlines.
He silently walked out to the hotel he had booked.
The hotel was cheap, and the inhabitants were all extras who had come to North City to chase their dreams. Since they were all men, there weren’t many rules to mind, and nobody cared much about sleeping in the long communal bunks.
Yang Xian’s room was now filled with people, all asleep.
These guys didn’t care if there had been someone next to them yesterday or not. If you weren’t back, I’d take the spot and sleep first. It was mine and I didn’t care who you were.
Yang Xian first went to the bathroom to strip off his costume and clothes, then he hung them up in the shower along with the dog skin and the talisman paper, before turning on the showerhead and starting to bathe.
In summer, he wore a short-sleeve shirt and a pair of 10 yuan shorts underneath.
Yang Xian placed the shirt and shorts under his feet, stepping on them with the communal toiletries to clean off the sweat and odor.
Just as he concentrated on stepping on his clothes, a faint sound came from outside, as if sharp nails were scratching against the glass.
Yang Xian was startled.
It was already the middle of the night, and he was the only one here. The shower stall was separated by just a piece of cloth, and if you opened the window, the wind blew straight in.
It shouldn’t be cold on a summer night, but Yang Xian felt a chill as the wind made the hair on his body stand on end.
"My dear nephew, why are you showering alone?"
Suddenly, Hu Yaoyao’s coquettish voice came from outside the curtain.
Yang Xian’s muscles tensed, and he looked up at the yellow talisman tucked into the sleeve of his hung-up costume.
He had thought about discarding the talisman paper, not wanting to keep accepting Su Mianmian’s kindness for fear that he would turn into Erlang, into someone else.
But after much thought, somehow, he had still ended up keeping the talisman.
Yang Xian listened as the footsteps outside grew closer, his brow furrowing slightly.
He really didn’t want any further contact with Su Mianmian, and had thought that taking the initiative to kill Hu Yaoyao was a way to atone. When he heard that Hu Yaoyao hadn’t died, he knew she would definitely come for him again!
Demons weren’t necessarily all bad, and like humans, there were different kinds. But Hu Yaoyao was definitely one of those vile demons with blood on their hands! How could such an evil demon not seek revenge after suffering a loss?
In the ten years he had roamed outside and mixed amongst others, Yang Xian didn’t know how many times he’d been targeted for revenge.
"My dear nephew, why have you stopped showering and talking?" Hu Yaoyao’s voice drew closer, the inflection teasing, "Do you need your auntie to help wash you? Tsk, tsk, tsk, such a grown man, yet you’re still like this?"
As she spoke, the curtain was lifted.
Just hearing that soft and coquettish voice would make people think the speaker was a woman with a lovely figure. However, the one lifting the curtain was a red-furred, upright-walking, humanoid fox.
Her tail swayed behind her, and her entire being exuded a chilling demonic qi.
Upon seeing Yang Xian’s face, Hu Yaoyao’s pupils narrowed even more.
To think she had been a demon struggling in the mortal world for hundreds of years, evading death again and again through the Soul Division Technique. This time it was just that she was too complacent, thinking her schemes against a child would certainly succeed, and she let her guard down, resulting in the loss of a soul and a spirit.
She had been so meticulous, gathering all the intelligence she could, yet still fell for the massive temptation and underestimated him.
A child had managed to conjure an illusion technique more formidable than hers, combined with Puppet Technique, and concocted a plan to hide his form in the cave, causing her to suffer such a great loss.
Now, she would start getting back what she lost from this reincarnation of Erlang Shen.
Since he had not yet fused with his true self, the current Yang Xian was but an ordinary mortal. He had also parted ways with the Su Family and Daoist Master Qing Xu, likely because of harming Su Mianmian, so both sides must be at odds, making him a prime target.
Hu Yaoyao had already thought about how she would torture Yang Xian.
When deities enter the mortal world and get trapped, they simply vanish upon death. If she could consume Yang Xian’s divine soul, she might even gain a divine position herself!
Thinking this, Hu Yaoyao’s tail wagged even more cheerfully.
She licked her lips, her eyes filled with obsession as they lingered on Yang Xian’s lean yet muscular young body.
Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad to take his essence before the torture began?
