Chapter 224 - 223: Mianmian Hasn’t Drank Milk in a Long Time

Chapter 224: Chapter 223: Mianmian Hasn’t Drank Milk in a Long Time

This was Mianmian and the twins’ first time filming.

Wei Kang began explaining what the three children were supposed to do in this scene, but this time he didn’t emphasize filming, instead, he described it as playing a game.

"This game is called Pounding Balls, you use the sticks in your hands to hit this wooden ball into the hole with a small wooden stick, whoever hits it in first wins, and whoever wins, after I say ’cut’, I’ll reward you with this milk candy from my bag, go ahead and give it a try."

The candies were White Rabbit brand, an old favorite with a good taste.

Su Chaoyu and Su Chaoyang were thrilled to see there was candy.

At home, their consumption of such treats was limited, just like with ice cream. Now that there was candy to be had while filming, they were definitely going to hurry to get the ball into the hole!

Su Chaoyang and Su Chaoyu said in unison, "I will definitely be the first to hit the ball into the hole!"

Mianmian also craved the milk candy, and at the sight of it, a sweet taste seemed to fill her mouth.

In the mountains, she really liked eating candy, but her mother always said no. To keep her from eating it, they wouldn’t even keep any in storage, so she could pull out anything from her small bag, but never candy.

"Is this milk candy milk-flavored?" Mianmian blinked her eyes as she asked Wei Kang.

Wei Kang nodded, "Yes, yes, it’s milk-flavored. Has Little Auntie never tried it before?"

"Yeah!" Mianmian confirmed, "Mianmian has never had milk candy before."

"Then let’s start filming quickly."

Using candy as a bribe was effective. Wei Kang was pleased and was about to return to the monitor to start the shoot when he heard Mianmian mutter, "Mianmian hasn’t had sweet milk for so long, it’s strange, Mianmian has been eating meals for several days now, why hasn’t anyone made milk for Mianmian to drink?"

Upon hearing Mianmian’s muttering to herself, Su Chenyi’s eyes were filled with amusement. He knew why Little Auntie’s menu had been void of powdered milk recently—it all came back to the link that Elder Su and Old Lady Su had shared discreetly with the family, which mentioned how unhealthy it is for children to be too fat.

Little Auntie hadn’t had sweet milk powder for less than half a month since finishing the Variety Show and was noticeably getting heavier to hold! Continuing like this, she would easily grow into a little fat ball. They cooperated with each other and avoided bringing up the subject of milk powder.

Moreover, even the best powdered milk isn’t good if drunk in excess; it’s better to drink real milk without additives.

But giving Little Auntie real milk directly would still require adding sugar to it, which wasn’t good either. It was best to wean her off powdered milk first; otherwise, if she did turn into a ball, it wouldn’t be healthy.

Everyone was worried that Little Auntie would notice the change, but she had been so busy these days that she had completely forgotten about it.

Now, a piece of milk candy had reminded her of it.

Never mind, he decided to pretend he didn’t know anything.

Su Chenyi thought this as he watched the three children intently.

Wei Kang first shouted through a megaphone, "Let the game begin!"

Watching the three little ones squatting on the ground beginning to hit the ball with sticks, Wei Kang then called out to start filming.

All the departments got to work, and the camera focused on the three little ones on the ground. All three children had good potential; even covered in dirt and ash to look dirty, they were still very colorful on camera.

Especially their eyes.

Anyone who saw them would think that the three children were really interested in the game, their black, grape-like eyes focused intently on the ball.

Seeing the three little ones perform so well, Wei Kang was a little proud of himself for coming up with such a good idea.

Liao Xuan, who was watching the monitor alongside him, was also happy since it was he who had found them, and if the film went well, the children would suffer less.

Once the game scene was finished, it was time for the Zombie to come and capture the children.

Seeing the children’s good performance, Wei Kang had Liao Xuan keep an eye on the camera while he himself ran off to the side. He pulled the actor playing the Zombie away to a distant spot, making sure their voices wouldn’t be recorded, and began discussing how to shoot the scene.

The original script had the Zombie capturing the children right away, with the children crying and screaming, but now Wei Kang felt the plot could have a little more ups and downs.

For example, the children were so engrossed in playing that they didn’t even notice the Zombie approaching.

And since kids were crouching on the ground, and the zombie younger brother was too tall, he had to lean forward to grab the kids. So, initially, when the zombie’s hand reached for the kids, they shouldn’t have noticed it, allowing for a bit of a serendipitous dodge, like avoiding it because they went to hit a ball nearby.

Of course, this kind of comic contrast isn’t something the kids could deliberately act out; it had to be left to the actor playing the zombie younger brother to try his best.

"Start like this, and then... got it?" Wei Kang said with great detail, covering all the nuances.

He was so detailed mainly because the person playing this role had just been brought in, claiming it was his first time as an extra with no experience.

The original actor playing the zombie younger brother had finished shooting the later scenes, and a couple of days ago, suddenly said something came up at home and he had to go back.

Picking anyone else from the crew to play the role would have been fine, but the problem was they had tried to save money by having each person play a role in the script.

Those scenes had already been shot with everyone revealing their faces. Now, reshooting the kids’ scenes and turning those characters into zombies would create continuity errors in the script.

Nowadays, netizens watch dramas with a magnifying glass, posting even the smallest issues online. It wouldn’t be worth it if the entire web drama tanked because of this.

To avoid this outcome, Wei Kang personally chose a young man who was affordably priced, in good physical shape, and seemed to have some martial arts foundation, from among the extras to play the role.

"Yang Xian, think hard about this scene; if you do well, I’ll pay you extra," Wei Kang said.

Wei Kang patted the young man’s shoulder in front of him.

"Hmm, I’ll give it a try," replied Yang Xian, his eyes deep, as he glanced subtly at Mianmian who was crouched on the ground playing.

He closed his eyes for a while, then nodded at Wei Kang to indicate he was ready.

It took a walk together before they arrived at the set, where Yang Xian straightened his arm and hopped over to where a few children were.

The thing about playing a zombie is that you need to be somewhat athletic. Zombies don’t breathe, so you have to control abdominal movements. If you’re not physically fit, staying stiff and bouncing around while acting can quickly lead to heavy breathing, which isn’t suitable.

Once Yang Xian was in place, Mianmian heard the sound of footsteps.

Little Bun found it strange since Wei Kang had just asked them to play games happily; why would others come over? But if it was just for playing games, and someone came over quietly, she wasn’t supposed to know, right?

So, as Little Bun pondered, when she felt the presence behind her drawing near, she took two steps forward to hit the ball that Su Chaoyu had sent flying away.

She accidentally nailed the exact vibe Wei Kang wanted to portray.

Even because of her act, both Su Chaoyu and Su Chaoyang also inadvertently avoided a couple of instances where the zombie leaned forward to grab them.

It wasn’t until the number of dodges met Wei Kang’s requirements that Yang Xian followed Wei Kang’s instructions and touched the back of one of the kids with his fingertips.

Of course, the kid he touched was not Mianmian.

Yang Xian had a hunch that Su Mianmian knew he was coming, which is why she acted so well.

Meanwhile, the other two boys, engrossed in hitting the wooden balls on the ground, were genuinely just focused on playing the game.

Sure enough, when Yang Xian leaned forward and touched Su Chaoyang, the boy swiftly turned, slapped Yang Xian’s hand away, and irritably said, "Stop bothering me!"

The little guy was frustrated as he couldn’t get the ball into the hole due to the uneven ground causing it to change direction.

He was feeling quite vexed and wanted to vent his anger.

After shooing the person away, Su Chaoyang continued to play.

The silliness escalated when Su Chaoyu also got touched by Yang Xian and angrily said to Su Chaoyang, "Bro, don’t cheat. Why did you tap my shoulder when I was about to hit the ball?"

Su Chaoyang was startled, "No, I didn’t tap your shoulder. I thought it was you who tapped mine."

Hearing this, both boys turned to look at Mianmian and spoke simultaneously, "Little, Little Sister, was it you who just tapped my shoulder?"

Luckily, the twins quickly remembered that Mianmian was their younger sister!

Otherwise, that moment would have been a giveaway, even after dubbing the lines in post-production.
