Chapter 208: Chapter 207: Confiscation of the Peace Amulet
Jin Tai felt the Little Bun stiffen in his arms and after a moment’s thought, he knew why. After the Director called "cut", he told Mianmian, "Little Auntie, Seventh master is just acting and hasn’t really become Xu Weiwei’s child."
Mianmian blinked her eyes and finally snapped out of the emotions Su Chenfei had just exhibited. She nodded gently, "Oh, so it’s just acting."
Mianmian thought to herself how impressive her seventh grandchild was, nearly crying during his performance, as if he truly regarded Xu Weiwei as his mother.
Jin Tai had already informed the Director that Mianmian was coming to visit the set, and when the time came, he took the initiative to carry Mianmian over to the Director.
"Director Jiang, our Little Auntie has arrived."
The statement was slightly haughty, as if he looked down on others. But given the Su Family’s status as the wealthiest clan and Mianmian’s seniority, this manner of speaking was not a problem at all.
"Ah, Little Auntie, Assistant Jin," Director Jiang, wearing a black baseball cap which made him look quite young, started to get up while speaking, bowing specially deeply, "Little Auntie, the director from the Variety Show you previously recorded was my Master. My name is Jiang You, and I have had the pleasure of meeting Little Auntie before."
The director of this drama was an up-and-coming figure among young directors, full name Jiang You, and was the disciple of Hu, the director who had previously shot the Variety Show. The film industry circles’ master-disciple relationships were akin to small Sects, each with their own set of rules.
Since Director Hu called Mianmian "Little Auntie," Jiang You’s use of "Little Auntie" was not unjustified.
"Chairs have been prepared for you." Jiang You directed the staff to move a chair over, "If you want to watch the filming, you can sit here. If you don’t want to watch and prefer to walk around, we can arrange for someone to accompany you."
After hearing what Jiang You had said and learning that her little nephew’s disciple was present, Mianmian thought to give a greeting gift. Her little hand was already on her small bag, but then her brow furrowed, and she stopped.
Previously the little nephew did not accept her greeting gift, and it was possible that his disciple would not readily accept either, so she decided not to give the same kind of gift she had prepared before and instead find something more appropriate.
"Hello there, disciple of my little nephew." After responding to Jiang You, Mianmian turned around to look at her surroundings, then said, "Mianmian won’t sit here for now, nor will I go for a walk, thank you."
The scene being shot was set in an ancient household’s Garden, with ancient-style buildings nearby. Filming equipment was placed in the middle, and the other crew members stood where they wouldn’t hinder work.
After looking around and not seeing the dark shadow she had noticed while FaceTiming with Su Chenfei, she turned and whispered in Jin Tai’s ear, "Yin Tai, I want to give everyone here a talisman."
Handing out talismans was the best way to protect the people here. After looking around, Mianmian could see with her Heavenly Eye that everyone’s fate was incredibly clear, indicating they were not bad people from any new godly Sect.
Jin Tai, aware of his boss’s arrangements on these matters, nodded, "They have already been prepared for you."
The Bodyguard next to him, carrying a briefcase, opened it a little for Mianmian to see.
Mianmian saw that inside were small brocade bags that could fit protective charms and smiled, "Great, these will come in very handy for Mianmian, but I’ll also need a quiet place to draw."
She had left the house in such a hurry that she hadn’t thought to bring these items, and protective charms drawn on the spot tended to be more effective.
"Okay, I will take you somewhere to draw," Jin Tai said, and after telling Jiang You, he carried Mianmian into an inner room.
The room had tables and chairs, rented by the crew, which they could use freely while they were there, as long as they didn’t damage the furniture.
Mianmian began to take out small brushes and Cinnabar from her small bag as soon as she entered the room, while Jin Tai stayed with the Bodyguards at the door to ensure she wouldn’t be disturbed.
The scene that Xu Weiwei and Su Chenfei had just played was cut because both actors had issues with their performance.
Xu Weiwei had participated in Mianbao Entertainment Company’s styling program and had an artist-level veteran actor accompanying her, who was now explaining the scene to Xu Weiwei, also commenting on Su Chenfei’s performance.
Su Chenfei originally wanted to greet Mianmian, but for him, listening to the veteran actor was essential, so he couldn’t leave and could only watch enviously as Mianmian was carried by Jin Tai into the room.
"Su Chenfei, what are you doing?" The veteran actor, noticing Su Chenfei’s distraction, got angry, "Why are you distracted? Your emotional burst just now was full, but you didn’t rein it in enough..."
Receiving the ruler’s sustenance, serving the ruler loyally.
The veteran actor had been hired by Mianbao Entertainment Company for a high salary and had strict standards for her teaching. She believed that the amount paid deserved an equal amount of work in return and couldn’t be negligent.
Immediately, Su Chenfei apologized, "Teacher, I’m sorry, I was indeed a little distracted."
Right after apologizing, Su Chenfei shivered.
Unseen by him, a dark shadow flickered over his head.
Meanwhile, at the doorway, a young boy was holding a plate of fruits, knocking on the wooden door.
Hearing the noise, the Bodyguard inquired, "What’s this for?"
The young boy replied softly, "The Director asked me to bring snacks and fruits for Little Auntie."
The crew had prepared these items for scenes involving the main characters’ childhood memories, expecting several child actors to come for filming, but their schedules had not yet begun.
Now that Mianmian was visiting the set, they decided to use them to entertain her.
Jin Tai heard it was food and agreed for the Bodyguard to open the door.
The boy handed over the items to the Bodyguard, his eyes fixed on Mianmian.
The Bodyguard, seeing this, scolded in a low voice, "Stop staring, don’t disturb our Little Auntie, now leave."
The boy nodded and closed the door behind him as he left.
Mianmian took half an hour to finish drawing the talismans. Jin Tai’s Bodyguard distributed them to the crew, along with a prepared speech: "This is a protective charm prepared for you by the Su Family’s Seventh master’s Little Auntie. The charm must not get wet and will ensure your safety if you carry it on your person, please accept it."
Of course, not everyone chose to accept the protective charm upon hearing this. With a thousand faces come a thousand thoughts, and each person has their own ideas.
The Bodyguard didn’t insist on anyone who refused and reported back to Jin Tai after completing the task.
Noticing there were many left over, Jin Tai worried that Little Auntie might feel upset and was considering what to say when he heard Little Bun comment, "There are so many leftovers? That’s okay, I have some for you guys too, make sure you all wear them."
She handed the protective charms to Jin Tai and put the rest back into her small bag, showing no signs of displeasure from being refused.
Curious, Jin Tai ventured, "Hey, some people really don’t know what’s good for them, not accepting your protective charm. What if something happens to them?"
Mianmian looked up at Jin Tai, her big, clear eyes showing no trace of emotion.
"It’s okay, everyone has their own choices. I’m already 3 years and 8 months old, and I know that those meant to hit the south wall will hit the south wall."
After saying this, Mianmian packed up her things and walked out of the room, sitting down obediently next to Director Jiang. She waited for the right moment to offer the protective charm and the prepared tube of medicine, "This is for you, and here’s a tube of medicine pills too, all for you!"
Jiang You was taken aback.
He had heard about this Little Auntie’s fondness for giving gifts to younger people and was prepared to refuse just like his teacher. After all, Su Chenfei was part of his crew, and accepting the gift would have made him seem biased as a director. But this time, Little Auntie caught him off guard, offering a tube of pills instead?
