Chapter 112: Chapter 111: Do You Dare to Taste a Hundred Herbs Like Him?
The little doll on the Soul-hooking Rope could only be seen by Mianmian, the White Wolf Demon Bai Bai, and the half-demon Liao An. The Chu Family father and son and Su Chenfei, with their mortal eyes, saw nothing at all.
But that didn’t stop them from deducing from Mianmian’s subtle expressions that the Soul-hooking Rope had hooked something.
Especially since Mianmian was reaching out her hand as if she was holding something.
"Little Auntie, what is this?" Su Chenfei asked, peering at thin air with caution.
By this time, Mianmian had figured out that Liao Yue on the outside could hear their conversation. She shushed Su Chenfei with a "hush" and tried using two Illusion Talismans to prevent Liao Yue from seeing the little doll.
To be absolutely sure, she had Bai Bai grow huge to block everyone from view.
Then, Mianmian looked down to examine the little doll in her arms.
The doll was really small, the size of a baby, with only its little hands being bigger. It was completely naked but had no gender.
"Awoo awoo?" Bai Bai was also looking at the doll, and after watching for a while, he reminded Mianmian.
Mianmian nodded, "Mhm mhm."
This little doll might be the spirit of the Divine Farmer’s Cauldron! As a spirit, it could be hooked out by the Soul-hooking Rope.
Seeing how peacefully the spirit was sleeping, it didn’t seem like it had been subdued by the poopy snake.
"Alright, I’ve prepared fine wine and dishes, and I’m ready to turn up the heat a bit to enjoy your cries as a complement to my drink," Liao Yue’s voice came from outside, sounding pleased.
And as Liao Yue finished speaking, Mianmian immediately felt the ground beneath her feet growing hot.
The spirit was still deep in slumber, but after the Divine Farmer’s Cauldron exerted its power, it was still formidable. The talismans she placed on everyone turned to ash and vanished, and everyone began to hop from foot to foot.
Because it was just too hot!
Seeing this, Mianmian quickly took out her Flying Sword, enlarged it, and let everyone step upon it.
With the Flying Sword as a stepping stone, things were indeed much better.
Su Chenfei, seeing Mianmian seemed to still be researching something, gave Chu Qi a look and began to wail loudly, "Ah, ah, it’s so hot, help, help!"
As he shouted, his facial features contorted forcefully as if he truly was a person being roasted on a grill, exerting his whole body intensely.
Chu Qi got the message and also started yelling, "Hiss, my feet hurt so much, it hurts!"
Chu Ye opened his mouth, "Dad, save me, it hurts!"
The father and son duo, used to keeping straight faces, cried out in pain without any expression; their voices exaggerated but lacking emotion.
Su Chenfei felt this wouldn’t do; how could such acting fool the snake outside and buy time for Little Auntie?
He looked reproachfully at the Chu Family father and son and gestured with his hands on his face, indicating that their cries should have bursts of emotion.
The father-son pair couldn’t help but laugh at Su Chenfei’s comical gestures, not speaking but exaggerating their voices in cooperation.
Compared to the Chu Family father and son, Bai Bai’s acting was obviously much better.
"Awoo, woowoo, woof woof," the three types of cries shifted effortlessly, heart-wrenching.
Bai Bai even patted Mianmian, hinting that she should join in. If they didn’t pretend to be roasted, what if Liao Yue outside sensed something amiss and controlled a larger fire to refine them?
Upon hearing Bai Bai’s words, Mianmian closed her eyes and began to cry loudly, "Wuwuwu, wuwuwu, I want my mom, want my mom."
As a mischievous child, Mianmian had once pretended to be in danger and cried out for her mom, earning herself a loving spanking.
However, thanks to her naughtiness, Mianmian had learned to make the sound of her crying seem genuine.
"Hahaha, I will slowly increase the heat, preserve some energy and keep screaming slowly, I wouldn’t be happy if you run out of voice," Liao Yue became more triumphant.
He glanced at the interior of the Divine Farmer’s Cauldron and noticed that the people inside were hidden from sight by the enlarged White Wolf Demon, and he snickered to himself.
What use was there in hiding?
The Divine Farmer’s Cauldron was a Divine Artifact, even if they were up to something inside, they couldn’t escape; they could only wail within. He enjoyed listening to mortals’ lament, it was just a pity that Su Mianmian was still a child; it would have been even better if she’d grown up.
Liao Yue thought about it and felt even more regretful.
He continued drinking, leisurely waiting for the medicinal pills to be successfully refined.
Inside the space of the Divine Farmer’s Cauldron, Mianmian was attempting to wake the little spirit. The little one was sleeping too deeply, unresponsive to shaking, and kept on sleeping.
Mianmian placed a finger on the little one’s head, trying to communicate with it.
Normally, by pressing against a little demon’s head in this manner, she could speak directly to the little demon and see some of their memories.
But this time, when contacting the spirit of the artifact, Mianmian saw nothing—only boundless darkness.
Mianmian sighed, "Ah, it’s so dark here, so very dark."
"Ah, it’s so dark here, so very dark," a childish voice echoed back from beneath her feet.
Realizing the voice was coming from below, Mianmian looked down, but it was too dark to see anything.
She had no choice but to squat down and reach out her hand to feel around, yet she could touch nothing.
"Where are you?" Mianmian asked again.
"Where are you?" the voice echoed once more.
Mianmian was getting a bit anxious now, as they were still trapped. So she asked directly, "Little spirit, I’m Mianmian. Can you wake up and let us out?"
Who would have known that even with this plea, she would get back a repeated question, "Little spirit, I’m Mianmian. Can you wake up and let us out?"
What should she do now?
Mianmian thought hard about what else her mother had mentioned regarding spirits of artifacts and finally remembered something her mother had said one day.
After their birth, spirits don’t know they’re spirits nor do they know who they are, but they do know their master’s name.
Since they know their master’s name, then it’s a good idea to tell the little spirit the story of Emperor Yan!
Mianmian sat down on her bottom.
She told the tale of how Shennong, after tasting a hundred herbs and inventing pottery cooking utensils, created the Divine Farmer’s Cauldron and used it to concoct medicines. She also recounted how Shennong’s Yanhuang Tribe merged with Huangdi’s Tribe to defeat Chi You, uniting into one and becoming the Yanhuang Tribe.
This time, the little spirit finally stopped repeating her words and asked. "Then where did he go in the end?"
That question stumped Mianmian.
"I don’t know," Mianmian honestly replied. "I wasn’t born at the time, what I told you is just from the stories in books."
Little spirit: "And the Yanhuang Tribe? What became of them afterward?"
Mianmian knew the answer to this one!
"The Yanhuang Tribe has evolved into Dragon Country now. We are the people of Dragon Country, the descendants of Yanhuang," Mianmian spoke with child-like earnestness, patting her chest. "Yanhuang blood flows through our veins!"
As her words ended, the darkness around the area began to change.
"You say you have his blood, so do you dare to taste a hundred herbs just like he did?"
The ground became covered with many, many herbs.
Some were familiar to Mianmian, some she had only seen in the archives of the Jiang Family, and they were particularly rare species. More importantly, some of the herbs were poisonous.
Mianmian’s eyes immediately spotted the Gut-wrenching Grass that would cause excruciating pain in the stomach, leading to death through gut rupture.
She puffed out her chest very seriously: "If I eat them, you have to let us go!"
"Deal, as long as you dare to eat," the little spirit appeared in front of Mianmian, still taking the form of a naked child. It floated in mid-air, its New Year Picture Doll-like chubby face held tight, "I can let you go."
Having said that, the little spirit let out a big yawn.
Were it not for being suddenly disturbed by this little friend named Su Mianmian, it might have continued sleeping, totally unaware that its true body was being used by others.
After Emperor Yan died, It was taken away by the fairies of the Heavenly Court. Because it disdained those beings, it had sealed itself away all this time.
In fact, it knew the stories Mianmian had related and the reason for Emperor Yan’s death. It asked those questions because it was curious whether people of the present still remembered these things.
The little spirit floated beside Mianmian, watching the cute little tot pick a Mandala Seed and pop it into her mouth.
As she ate, Mianmian commented. "Mandala Seed induces hallucinations, respiratory paralysis, and madness~"
After finishing with the Mandala, Mianmian picked a Bell Flower: "This one causes breathing difficulties, suffocation, death~"
With each herb Mianmian ate, she described the reaction it would have on her body. She ate so many until her belly was round and full, uncomfortably stuffed.
"I, I can’t eat any more," Mianmian looked at the little spirit. "I’m full."
Upon finishing, she lifted her clothes to show the little spirit her belly, bloated and round like a small watermelon, then flashed a sweet smile tinged with a hint of ingratiation.
The little spirit drew close to Mianmian’s little belly and gave it a poke to confirm that she was indeed stuffed. It then stared intently at Mianmian’s face.
What’s the matter with this kid? Apart from an indescribable fragrance that came off of her, she looked like an ordinary cultivator from head to toe; how was it that after eating so many poisonous herbs, she was perfectly fine?
