Baby Serendipity: The Whole World Fell In Love With Me -
Chapter 102 - 101: Seeing her on my dining table
Chapter 102: Chapter 101: Seeing her on my dining table
In the dimly lit underground chamber, the stranger’s voice replied, "Did any outsiders come to the village today?"
Yi Min nodded, "Yes, some people from out of town did come."
"Liao Zhe told me, among them is a tender-skinned three-year-old child with succulent flesh, correct?"
Yi Min recalled the appearance of the three little girls and nodded, "Yes, there is a Su Mianmian, indeed, just as you described."
"Good, I want to see her on my dining table tomorrow! You make the arrangements!"
Upon hearing this demand, Yi Min stood frozen in place.
Consume Su Mianmian? How could he do that? With cameras around, and Su Mianmian’s popularity so high, if she were to die, it would certainly lead to a strict investigation, and the entire village’s secrets might be exposed.
He hesitated to respond, yet the voice at his side pressed on: "What’s the matter? Is this troubling for you? Your Yi family has been under my protection for so long, your father was utterly obedient to me. Now with you, are you thinking of defying me?"
The color drained from Yi Min’s face.
Their lives were in the hands of this other party, but the task required of them spelled their own doom.
Faced with death on either side, how should he choose?
"Regardless, I want her by tomorrow night, weigh your own life carefully."
In the shadowy underground chamber, suddenly a woman’s terrified scream rang out.
...
In the production team’s building, Mianmian quietly checked everyone’s wrist, ensuring the medicine had left no issues, before she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Feeling at ease, she waited with Liu Hui and the others for Bai Bai, for Bai Bai, Dahuang, and Xiaohuang to return.
Soon after, Bai Bai, Dahuang, and Xiaohuang came back.
"Awoo awoo," Bai Bai couldn’t wait to share with Mianmian what it had seen.
After listening, Mianmian was surprised, "Are there a lot of snakes on Back Mountain?"
Bai Bai: "Awoo awoo awoo, awoo awoo awoo."
It fiddled with two chickens using its paws.
The two chickens had grown quite a bit; one had bright-colored feathers and was a rooster, while the other, a hen. Suddenly slapped by Bai Bai’s paws, they nearly fell to the ground, protesting with a series of clucks.
Mianmian stroked Bai Bai’s head.
Bai Bai was saying that while Dahuang and Xiaohuang were looking for food, they nearly got eaten by a snake, and it was Bai Bai who rescued the two chickens and was now seeking praise from Mianmian.
"Bai Bai is amazing, but you all need to be careful when you play tomorrow. This village is very strange," Mianmian advised.
Bai Bai nodded and awooed, looking to climb into bed.
Only after Mianmian applied the Talisman Spell she found while cleaning earlier did she allow Bai Bai to jump onto the bed.
She also lay down, waiting for her seventh grandchild, who had gone to take a shower, to return and film her falling asleep, all while pondering her thoughts.
Those who should have died, how should she resolve their situation? They seemed neither alive nor dead, their souls not yet departed from their bodies, still considered living beings.
The skills Mianmian had learned didn’t include directly pulling out a living being’s soul. Her mother had said this wasn’t something they should do, as it was the Underworld’s job to handle. Mortals shouldn’t compete with the Underworld Envoy’s work.
So regarding this matter, should she contact Uncle Cui? Would it be too much of a disturbance?
Mianmian agonized over it until she fell asleep.
"Mianmian, Mianmian."
Already asleep, Mianmian suddenly heard someone calling her name. Still half-asleep, she floated along until she opened her eyes and unexpectedly saw a man dressed in an ancient red robe.
The man had handsome features, but his face appeared pale and cold as if it hadn’t seen sunlight for years. He gazed at Mianmian as her eyes opened, waiting for Little Bun to regain her senses.
Rubbing her eyes, Mianmian took a moment before realizing she wasn’t in her room anymore and asked, confused, "Who are you? How do you know my name?"
"Little Mianmian doesn’t recognize me?" the man’s lips curved into a smile, "Didn’t you write to me a while back?"
Mianmian immediately remembered that the only letter she had ever written was to Judge Cui Yu of the Underworld. This was indeed a big surprise; just today she was wondering whether to write another letter to Uncle Cui, and here he was.
With excited inflection, she said, "You’re Judge Uncle Cui! Mianmian was thinking about writing to you again today, but was afraid of bothering you. My mother said that judges are very busy."
Having said that, she looked up at Cui Yu. Her mother had said that Judge Cui liked to wear red and was a very handsome young man—it turned out to be true!
Cui Yu smiled when he heard Mianmian’s words, "You want to find me for a matter that I believe is the same as I wish to find you for."
"What matter?" Mianmian asked while tilting her head to look at Cui Yu’s empty palm, her large eyes filled with confusion.
Cui Yu was momentarily speechless and summoned the Underworld artifact he oversaw, the Soul-hooking Pen and the Book of Life and Death: "Looking for this?"
Mianmian nodded: "Mm-hmm!"
She activated her Heavenly Eye.
What appeared to be an ordinary brush and book immediately emanated a chilly blue glow.
Mianmian wanted to look more closely but the blue light stung her eyes painfully.
In an instant, she was teary-eyed, rubbing her eyes and daring not to look again.
"Hmm?" Cui Yu was surprised.
What had Little Bun just done? It caused a brief reaction from the Soul-hooking Pen and the Book of Life and Death, nearly slipping from his grasp. Indeed, she was the name that had suddenly appeared in the Book of Life and Death, and just as King Yama had said, she had something special about her.
Cui Yu looked at Little Bun, who was peeking at him with one eye open. He wanted to reach out and wipe away her tears but feared that his body, being that of an Underworld Envoy, might harm Little Bun, so he withdrew his hand and quietly watched instead.
Mianmian after easing the soreness in her eyes, blinked to make sure her eyes were alright, and patted her chest in relief. So, it seems celestial artifacts cannot be looked at casually— doing so would cause pain.
"Uncle Cui still hasn’t said what matter is the same as what Mianmian is thinking of," Mianmian asked.
Cui Yu, with a serious tone, replied, "What I want to say concerns the problem with this village."
He manipulated the Book of Life and Death, which immediately flipped open and stopped at the page for "Yide Village," listing many names.
"These individuals have been evading capture by the Yin Envoys for quite some time." Cui Yu pointed to the names for Mianmian to see.
Mianmian looked up at the towering Book of Life and Death and approached Cui Yu, tugging at his robe.
She had only tugged once when Cui Yu suddenly swept his robe back and stepped away.
Startled by Cui Yu’s abrupt movement, Mianmian looked up with her fair little face full of confusion: "Uncle Cui, why are you avoiding Mianmian?"
Cui Yu lowered his eyes to gaze at Mianmian: "I am an envoy from the Underworld, and mortals cannot bear the touch of my divine form."
Upon hearing this, Mianmian voiced her understanding: "Then Uncle Cui, crouch down. Mianmian can’t see the words on the Book of Life and Death."
Only then did Cui Yu realize he was not speaking with an Underworld Envoy, and after a moment, he lifted his robe and crouched down.
Mianmian patted the ground: "Uncle, sit down; your legs will get sore from crouching."
That was the milk-sweet sound of concern.
Cui Yu’s gaze softened, and he simply lifted his robe and sat down, pointing at the names in the Book of Life and Death as he spoke to Mianmian.
"These people should have entered the Underworld a hundred years ago. The Underworld has sent Yin Envoys time and again, only to capture some irrelevant souls instead." Cui Yu pointed out the names to Mianmian, "There are countless ghosts in the Underworld filing complaints; cases pile up on my desk. They have been delayed so long that it wasn’t until recently I saw them."
After explaining the reason, he paused and added, "We, having divine status as Underworld Envoys, cannot freely walk in the world of the living. Nowadays, there are few in the living world who can manage these matters; hence, we can only request your assistance."
Mianmian listened quietly as Cui Yu finished speaking, memorizing the indicated names. The number matched exactly with the number of people she had seen who were supposed to have died.
"Okay, Mianmian came intending to take care of this matter," Mianmian nodded, then thought of the souls trapped in the Pomegranate Garden, "There are also many souls imprisoned in that garden; Mianmian wants to save them too."
Hearing Mianmian say this, Cui Yu sighed, "The Underworld is too slow in handling matters nowadays; perhaps it’s time for a change. The souls you speak of should be on this page, but the Underworld Envoys are understaffed and cannot attend to this area."
The Book of Life and Death turned its pages again, this time with many names fluttering past.
Cui Yu continued, "These are all unjustly deceased souls whose spirits the Yin Envoys couldn’t find when they came up."
"So many," Mianmian couldn’t remember all the names.
Her thoughts returned to the two malevolent ghosts and the cat Nuomi she had sent down: "How are the three ghosts I sent down doing?"
Cui Yu answered, "The two malevolent ghosts are being punished in Hell, while the cat’s soul is awaiting reincarnation. It was supposed to be reborn as a human, but nowadays, people in the living world are reluctant to welcome new life, and it’s unknown how long it will have to wait in line."
Mianmian had heard more than once about the numerous ghosts in the Underworld. Now having heard the same words from Judge Cui Yu, she furrowed her small brows and became distressed as well.
She thought hard but couldn’t come up with a solution and sighed, "Ah, I’m sorry, Mianmian doesn’t have a way to solve this problem either."
Cui Yu looked at the disheartened Little Bun, his slender fingers twitching slightly with the urge to stroke Little Bun’s head.
However, he held back and pulled a rope from his sleeve: "Little Mianmian, this is for you."
