Chapter 100: Chapter 99: Only at His Satisfaction

Yi Min threw the topic to Mianmian.

Su Chenfei tensed up, worried that letting Little Auntie answer might give something away, but he then heard the Little Auntie in his arms already replying, "Fairy isn’t talking to Mianmian, Fairy doesn’t care about Mianmian, oh and who said the mudslide was originally in your village?"

Caught off guard by the question thrown back at him, Yi Min paused, "Nobody, that’s just what’s going around online. Oh, by the way, I heard Little Auntie can tell fortunes. Could you do that for the people in the village later?"

Mianmian nodded, "Of course, Mianmian can help with that."

Seeing Mianmian agree, Yi Min smiled at her slightly. He was quite handsome, with a bookish look in his glasses. Under the twilight, his gentle expression was somewhat captivating.

"Ah, I want to say that I actually have a thing for this village chief; he’s really not bad-looking."

"Is he the one who went off to school and then came back to build up the village? It takes a lot of courage for someone to do that."

"The village doesn’t look too shabbily built, does it? I reckon this village chief must be at least 35+, he must be married by now?"

Netizens started praising Yi Min’s appearance on the live-stream, while on-site, Yi Min had everyone take their seats.

The villagers also arrived at the scene and found their seats. Rural banquets usually were like this, with each family contributing their own tables and chairs. The tables would be covered with clear plastic film, and food would be served on ceramic plates with disposable bowls and cups for eating.

After Xu Weiwei took her seat, she glanced over at the villagers at the other tables and tapped Liu Hui’s hand, "Hui, it’s so strange, why are there no elderly people in this village?"

Hearing Xu Weiwei’s question, Liu Hui glanced at Yi Min without leaving a trace and responded with a smile, "I also find it odd. Could the village chief tell us why?"

Yi Min, who was arranging paper bowls on the table, nodded as he replied, "You caught us in our peculiarity; in our village, it’s tradition for the elderly not to live with the younger folks. Uncles, aunts, and all the elders live on Back Mountain. We could take you to see them tomorrow."

He spoke sincerely, and both Xu Weiwei and Liu Hui refrained from asking further questions.

In the vast land of Dragon Country with its diverse cultures, it’s normal for a small village in the mountains to have some odd customs. Since this was all happening on a live-stream, and Yi Min was savvy, he couldn’t possibly lie on camera, could he?

"What kind of tradition is that where the elderly don’t live with the younger ones? What the hell?"

"Sigh, it’s an old village superstition, pretty normal. It’s already good enough that they don’t say women can’t sit at the table."

"Speaking of which, now that we’re at the banquet, I’ve just realized there are so many kids in the village, and there are quite a few pregnant young women too."

There were indeed a lot of children. As per the village’s custom of seating for meals, the children all sat at one table. The table set aside for them was lower than the adults’, perfect for the kids to sit at.

A seven-or-eight-year-old boy, seeing Mianmian and her group sitting with the adults, frowned and ran over, asking Yi Min, "Village chief, why aren’t these few kids eating with us? Shouldn’t they sit at the kids’ table with us?"

His eyes were full of suspicion.

Gently rubbing the little boy’s head, Yi Min answered tenderly, "They are not from our village, so they don’t have to follow our village rules. The village chief has told you before, haven’t you forgotten?"

The boy, after hearing this, scratched his head and showed a naive smile, "Oh, I forgot, village chief, don’t be mad, okay?"

He then darted back to his seat and curiously eyed the camera.

As he watched the camera, a skinny little girl sitting next to him suddenly exclaimed, "Ouch!"

Hearing the noise, the boy said irritably, "What are you yelling for? So annoying."

The little girl fell silent, shyly lowering her head.

Once everyone was seated, it wasn’t long before the food began to arrive. Eating outside, the scent of the food wafted far and wide. After a day’s journey, the guests were already hungry. The late-arriving Director Hu apologized to Yi Min before taking his seat and helping himself to a piece of lean meat.

"Ah, this pork is good, fresh," Director Hu praised the taste of the dish. "You didn’t slaughter a pig today just for us, did you?"

Yi Min toasted Director Hu, "To entertain honored guests, of course we must prepare well. Director Hu, cheers to you. If there’s any task or game later on, just let me know. I’ll make arrangements to ensure your program goes off without a hitch."

Director Hu looked at the plastic cup that was filled to the brim, poured some out, and left just a small sip, "You are the village chief, so I ought to drink this toast. However, I still have work to do, and getting drunk would not be good, so I’ll just drink a little bit, if you’ll excuse me."

Yi Min wasn’t offended and downed his own glass, "Director Hu is a busy man, I understand, I understand. But I saw that the live-stream stopped at six o’clock in the evening before, so why are you still filming today? Shouldn’t the brother carrying the camera have a drink too?"

"Coming to a new village, we need to film more to generate popularity," Director Hu smiled. "I heard you have a welcome ceremony, so don’t we need to let the netizens see the customs of your village?"

Yi Min nodded, "Yes, yes, haha, they should see, they should see."

While the two were chatting, Mianmian was sitting on a little chair, eating.

She was indeed hungry. Since there were no high chairs for children here, she relied on Su Chenfei to help her pick dishes.

She pointed at the dish she wanted, and Su Chenfei would pick it up for her.

After Su Chenfei finished picking, Chu Qi and Liu Hui only started eating, choosing specifically the dishes that Su Chenfei had picked for Mianmian.

Xu Weiwei had been looking after her son’s taste preferences, choosing dishes that her son liked to eat. Noticing the odd behavior of Chu Qi and Liu Hui in picking dishes, she gave Liu Hui an extra glance.

As she watched, Xu Weiwei remembered what her son said when the bodyguard took him back to her room, "Mommy, there is a pomegranate this big, and it’s very red, but Mianmian said we can’t eat it, so I gave it to Mianmian."

Initially, Xu Weiwei thought that Mianmian might just like pomegranates a bit more, so she took her son’s pomegranate to eat. It didn’t seem like a big deal, so she didn’t pay much attention to it.

Now, seeing Liu Hui, Chu Qi, and Su Chenfei, who all only ate the dishes Mianmian had pointed out, she caught on and also began picking only those that Mianmian said she wanted to eat.

Director Hu was an astute observer, watching everything around him. He noticed the strange way the guests were picking dishes from the table and began to eat only those few dishes too.

Yi Min saw it, and a glint flashed in his eyes, the smile at the corner of his mouth becoming more genuine.

Eating well is good, he feels relieved when they have eaten.

After dinner, Yi Min invited the guests to sit nearby.

There was a stage covered in red cloth.

Some farmer men, wearing white tank tops with black trousers rolled up, hopped onto the stage.

Night had fallen, and the combined glow of outdoor incandescent lights and a bonfire focused on the stage, where someone beat drums and another played the flute.

The sound of the instruments made the entire welcome party lively, with small boys happily running around the stage and small girls, along with their mothers, clearing the tables and chairs.

On the red stage, the men raised their arms and slowly swayed their bodies in rhythm to the drum beats and various instruments, as if imitating a certain animal.

[Hahaha, this Village has something special, so much talent. ]

[Ah, suddenly it reminds me of going back to my hometown for the New Year; at my place, the women clean up the tables, while the men play cards and make a ruckus. (No intention of stirring up gender issues, just a thought.)]

[What dance are those farmer men performing? Are the villagers from this village a minority ethnic group? The dance is quite interesting.]

[Sss, I kind of feel like it’s a snake. Are they imitating a snake?]

"Sss sss sss~ sss sss sss~" As the audience speculated, the men on stage actually began making hissing snake sounds from their mouths.

Their fingers tightly pressed together, they not only used body movements to imitate a snake, but their arms also touched each other, intertwined, and twisted like snakes.

They were clearly men, dancing a dance that required bodily flexibility, yet it was eerily harmonious.

Su Chenfei was a bit scared of snakes, and he got goosebumps all over his body. Unable to help himself, he moved closer to Little Auntie and held her in his arms looking for comfort.
