Chapter 909 - 909 308 The Leap of Class Two in One
Chapter 909: Chapter 308: The Leap of Class [Two in One] Chapter 909: Chapter 308: The Leap of Class [Two in One] Xia You extended her hand and grabbed Yue Kong’s, saying, “Promise me, if there’s a chance, just go, you must go. When the time comes to sacrifice, even if it’s the Chi Snake, you must give it up without looking back. Otherwise, you’re doomed. Yue Kong, promise me, now, immediately!”
Yue Kong’s face contorted, his voice hoarse with emotion, “If that’s the case, and you and the Chi Snake are both gone, then what’s the difference between me and the dead?”
Xia You clenched her hand tightly, giving his a squeeze, “There is a difference, as long as you are alive, you can continue to breathe, to live.”
“If you don’t promise me, I will die with my eyes open, stop arguing with me, there’s no time left.”
Xia You cut off Yue Kong’s attempt to argue and said resolutely, “That’s the deal, you must listen to me!”
A choking sound emerged from Yue Kong’s throat, as if a lump of phlegm was stuck inside it.
“Yue Kong, I know what you’re thinking.”
Xia You said softly, “If there’s an afterlife, I will marry you.”
Yue Kong suddenly lifted his head to look at her, hope flashing in his eyes.
“Why not promise you in this life? I have always known your feelings… But alas, we are both assassins of the Heavenly Judge, even though we pride ourselves on killing only the wicked and carrying out justice in Heaven’s stead, we cannot change the reality of trading kills for money, always dancing on the edge of blades, risking our lives at every turn. What if we had a child? How would we manage a family? To drift forever? To never have our own little family, not to have children?”
“At this very moment, it’s proving my foresight: together in this life, we have no future. If you really have me in your heart… take this moment as your wife asking you, to live on.”
After she spoke, Xia You gave Yue Kong a soft, tender look, then turned her head toward the dark specks drawing closer in the distance.
The two of them could already hear the whooshing sounds of The Other Side approaching.
Xia You’s expression turned from tender to icy and sharp, her sword in hand flickering with cold light, as she said calmly, “Yue Kong! If you are a man, stop dithering; there’s no time for mourning and gloom. Just do as I say.”
With a whoosh of tearing air, two figures appeared in front of them, blocking their path.
The arrivals looked at Xia You and Yue Kong with the mocking cruelty of a cat toying with a mouse, clearly regarding them as playthings, infants in their grasp, with life and death at their whims.
“The two of you, Jade Rank assassin Yue Kong, Gold Rank assassin Xia You, both renowned names under Heavenly Judgment, illustrious figures. Why run after committing a deed, do you have the courage to act but not to bear the consequences? If you feel you can’t carry the weight of your own actions, why ever join the ranks of assassins?”
This voice came from an elderly man behind Xia You and Yue Kong, dressed in a moon-white robe, with his hands clasped behind his back, a mocking smile on his face.
As he walked forward with hands behind his back, wherever he passed, the grass and trees shattered, for he was surrounded by invisible Sword Qi that cleared all obstacles in his path.
The area within thirty feet around him was completely clear.
By his side, to his left and right, one person each followed, each holding a long sword.
Together with the two figures blocking the way in front, they formed a pincer attack.
Xia You and Yue Kong’s gazes darted around, seeking a route of escape, only to see three more people rapidly approaching from both the left and right directions.
Clearly, the opponents’ strategy was surrounding them from all sides, converging into an encirclement, thoroughly cutting off their path to life.
Even disregarding the strongest elder as one side, in the other three directions death barred the way – with no path to heaven and no doorway to earth.
Xia You gritted her teeth looking skeptically toward a slightly distant spot.
But in the distance, two more people were slowly approaching, another elderly man exuding an imposing demeanor, along with a young girl.
Seeing the situation such as it was, Yue Kong’s face showed signs of despair, then he suddenly stepped forward and said loudly, “Elders of the Crescent Moon, Junior Yue Kong here. The assassination of Ji Chang’an was orchestrated solely by me and involves no one else.”
Xia You’s body trembled as she turned to look at him.
“If you have come looking for us, you must have thoroughly investigated the whole affair. All of this has nothing to do with Xia You! Even before I carried out the deed, I had no knowledge of the connection between Ji Chang’an and the Crescent Moon; otherwise, I wouldn’t have dared to act rashly.”
“Since the elders of the Crescent Moon have come today, Yue Kong is willing to accept the repercussions, but the wrongdoings of one person should be borne by themselves; indeed, this matter really has nothing to do with Xia You!”
Yue Kong placed the sword across his chest and said, “I, Yue Kong, stand right here, ready to take a beating or punishment, to be killed or carved! But I only ask that you, elders, don’t involve the innocent, and let Xia You go!”
The leading elder said dispassionately, “Oh? Your speech is quite easy, but let me ask you, if we had not had enough people to form this encirclement today, would you still be saying the same thing?”
Yue Kong replied tragically, “The elder is an old hand in the jianghu, how could you not understand the logic of saying what needs to be said according to circumstances? If there was any chance at all, I would not simply surrender; even if it were a dying struggle, it still needed to be done.”
The elderly man snorted, “As you yourself say, I’m an old hand in the jianghu; you are now meat on the chopping block, fish caught in a net, what right do you have to negotiate terms with us? To let Xia You go so she can come back seeking revenge on us one day?”
Yue Kong took a deep breath and said, “The elders are highly skilled, and while I, Yue Kong, do not undervalue myself, I am well aware of the disparity in strength between us, far from being your match. But surely the elder also knows that if I were to fight desperately, without regard to the cost, just to take one or two of you down with me, I could do it!”
