Feng Yin along with five others stepped out, perplexed, and stood at the front.

The instructor was fuming. “You bunch of shorties, what are you doing crowding in the middle? Don’t you see the problem with your height? Eh? What can you see from there?”

He then ordered, “You six, to the front, single file.”

A round of laughter swept over the crowd, everyone seeming to enjoy the humiliation of the six.

But many people were soon puzzled.

While five of them were indeed short… there was something off about the last one. He was completely ordinary looking, but certainly not short. He was of a standard height.

Average height, to be specific.

If he can be given special treatment, then there would be way too many people in this group of 600 who would qualify for special treatment.

But after the instructor made the arrangements, it was settled.

These six guys up front.

Followed by eleven rows of sixty people each lining up in the back.

And Feng Yin… credited for his gentle demeanour, but standing tall among the shorties, was deemed an eyesore by the instructor.

So, he was ordered to stand exactly in the middle!

In other words…

Feng Yin’s position was right up front, in the most central spot, directly facing the instructor.

No more than two meters from the instructor’s face.

He could clearly see the blackheads on the skin next to the instructor’s golden mask.

A golden central position, indeed!

Everyone else felt a pang of jealousy, but… there was no evidence to suggest the instructor was being partial.

After all, what’s there to favour in this situation?

This was a hardcore training for gold rank assassins.

Everything boiled down to sheer luck.

Many were thinking, this guy… he’s pretty lucky, but if his comprehension is mediocre, this luck might just be his downfall.

As expected, the instructor’s training began.

“Everyone, take off your shoes. Barefoot.”

“Look at my toes, the space between my feet, the way my arms naturally hang along my sides, and stand.”

“Pay attention to your toes.”

People in the back began to murmur about not being able to see from that distance, then a thud was heard.

The gentle guy in the front got kicked and flew. “Idiot! You can’t mimic my stance when you’re this close?”

People were laughing out loud as he fell over ten meters away in a heap.

They couldn’t resist laughing at his misery.

“Get back here! Stand up straight!”

Then, the instructor began to explain the essentials of the movements. “This position of mine; head… neck… shoulder… effect…legs, knees… effect, toes… like when you pull out a knife, or a sword, or a fist… etc, look!”

He demonstrated each one.

“This stance is the easiest for any hand movement. If you’re using a knife, put a little more force on your big toe like this, come and demonstrate.”

The instructor pointed at Feng Yin.

Feng Yin was bewildered.

Am I being given special attention? Or am I being singled out?

Or am I being targeted?

He stepped out to imitate the teacher’s stance…

“Draw your knife!”

The instructor commanded.

Swoosh!

Feng Yin drew his knife.

Puh!

With a single kick, our gentle guy was sent flying ten meters, landing on the ground like a drooping frog, clearly baffled.

“Is your goddamn arm stiff or something? Why are you using such a wide angle? Do you want to make it easier for your opponents? If you pull it back like this and extend with the force of drawing from the sheath, like this… Do you have a screw loose?”

The instructor cursed. “Look closely! Look at my toes, my knees, my shoulders, my elbows!”

Then the instructor made a powerful slicing motion.

Feng Yin watched carefully and indeed, the same amount of force but the power was nearly twice that of his own strike.

He couldn’t help but be impressed.

“Again!”

Whoosh!

And off he was sent flying again!

“Why are you moving your shoulder when you draw your knife?”

The instructor cursed again. “You’re as dumb as a pig! If someone sees your shoulder move, especially a nimble opponent with a sword, he’ll just jab straight at you. You won’t have a chance to draw your knife. Does it make you feel better to give your opponents a heads-up that you’re about to attack? Do you feel like you’re not dying fast enough?”

Is the gentle guy being picked on?

Everyone was a bit amused.

He’s being beaten up quite frequently…

[Reminds me of my new recruit days, when I was beaten up more frequently than this guy… Roughly twice a day during the four months in the training camp.]
