Awakening with two legendary Summons -
Chapter 118: Death of the summoner teacher
Chapter 118: Death of the summoner teacher
The bolt of lightning tore through the air, a jagged spear of raw energy screaming from the heavens. It crashed into the hospital’s rooftop, splintering concrete and steel as though they were made of paper. The shockwave pulsed violently, testing the strength of each wall, room, and corridor. One by one, they gave in—blasted apart into debris and dust, reduced to crumbling rubble. Floor by floor, the destruction advanced like a living storm, relentless in its descent.
It was no natural occurrence. The lightning was controlled, bent to the will of Goldrics—the master behind the carnage. With precision and deadly focus, he guided the energy toward one specific floor... the floor where Lloyd and Silver stood.
Lloyd hadn’t expected such an assault. No warning. No buildup. Just raw, blinding destruction racing toward him. And it was fast—so fast that the very air felt like it was being torn apart.
’We can’t outrun this...’
His heart thudded violently in his chest, but instinct took hold before fear could. The moment he saw the lightning cutting a path through the hospital like divine judgment, he turned to Silver. Without hesitation, he grabbed her with the full force of his Integration, pulling her close to his chest. Then he ran—straight through the wall like a cannonball, bursting into the open sky outside the building.
But fate didn’t let them escape unscathed.
A final bolt lashed out like a serpent, catching Lloyd by the heel. The noise was deafening, a sharp crack followed by a searing pain that shot through his leg like a branding iron. His body jolted, momentarily stunned by the burn.
’Agh—damn it!’
They had escaped the building, but not safety. The open air offered no sanctuary. They were falling now, plummeting from a deadly height toward the shattered earth below.
One of Lloyd’s legs dangled uselessly—the one struck by lightning. If it had been just him, he might have managed a roll or an awkward but survivable landing. But he wasn’t alone. Silver was still weak, still recovering.
’She’ll die if I don’t do something—’
So he did the only thing he could.
He wrapped himself even tighter around her, shielding her with every inch of his body. Then he increased his Integration, letting the energy surge through his skin, his bones, his blood.
He felt his Summon stir within him, begging to be released, desperate to take the fall in his place. The urge to let it out clawed at him, but he resisted.
’No... I won’t sacrifice you like that.’
This was one of Lloyd’s most stubborn traits—his belief that no one else should bear his pain. Not even his Summon. It wasn’t a tool to be discarded. It was a partner, an equal. And he would never use it as a shield.
The ground rushed up to meet them.
Then—
Crash!
They hit with the force of a meteorite. The impact erupted in a roar of splintered stone and swirling dust. Bricks and debris exploded into the air, a cloud of destruction blanketing the surrounding area.
Lloyd’s body bore the brunt. Despite the enhanced durability from his Integration, he felt his bones scream in protest. His hands were skinned, elbows bloodied, and a numbing ache stretched from his back to his legs.
But Silver... Silver only groaned. She had felt the shock but not the pain.
"Get off me!" she shouted, shoving at him with all her strength. Her voice was filled with confusion and anger, but also... something else.
Lloyd quickly rolled off her, breathing heavily, pain spiking with every movement.
Silver sat up, her eyes scanning her own body. She looked significantly better than when she’d been bedridden. Her own healing ability had clearly kicked in during the fall.
"Idiot!" she snapped, glaring at him. "Why did you risk yourself for me?"
Lloyd could only laugh, his voice hoarse and ragged, yet laced with sincerity. His lips curled into a crooked grin.
"I guess I can’t stand seeing you get hurt."
Silver’s cheeks turned crimson, and she looked away sharply, trying to hide her face.
’Why does he always say things like this? One moment he’s distant... cold... and the next, he’s warm like this. Stupid...’
But there was no time to dwell.
A deep, thunderous voice cut through the air like a blade.
"What is this?" boomed Goldrics.
He hovered midair, standing as though supported by an invisible platform. His eyes glowed with crackling electricity as he gazed down at them, his expression twisted with disdain.
"It’s nice to see you two are making out," he said mockingly. "But I’m afraid it’s already too late for that, isn’t it?"
Without giving them time to react, Goldrics extended his left hand. A sphere of white lightning formed in his palm—dense, violent, lethal. Then he fired.
The bolt screamed down toward them, faster than sound, a white-hot death streaking through the air.
Lloyd’s eyes widened. At this distance, even with Integration, there was no way he could dodge. Still, he tried to rise. He pushed with everything he had—
But pain exploded in his ankle.
He fell back down with a grunt, eyes flaring with desperation.
’The ankle—damn it, it’s not healing fast enough...!’
His hand shot toward his hilt, desperate to draw his blade, to defend them with something—anything.
But the lightning was faster.
Too fast.
There was no more time.
The sky turned white.
BOOM!
The bolt struck. The explosion was cataclysmic—flames and electricity burst outward in every direction. Dust and rubble flew up again, obscuring everything in a blinding storm of light and fury.
For a moment, all was silent.
Then Goldrics turned his back, his long coat fluttering in the wind as he faced the distant stadium.
"All dead," he said coldly. "Now to handle my last few students."
