Awakening of the Scheming Wife
Chapter 123: Grace had feelings? Yes!

Chapter 123: Grace had feelings? Yes!

She was clearly dodging her question, and Helena did not like that.

"Does it matter? Why aren’t you answering my question?" Helena’s eyes turned sharp as she asked again.

"Of course it matters. Anyway, I will answer your question first, okay? I saw your employees posting your picture at the entrance of the company on social media. No one told me, but I somehow found it. That was how I knew. Are you satisfied with the answer?" Grace smiled helplessly as if she was wronged for being accused of something serious by her good friend.

Helena raised an eyebrow. She did not know if she could trust this friend or not. But she knows that once you are doubtful of someone, it is always better to keep a safe distance from them. It is always better to be safe than sorry. It is better to lose a friend than keep someone who would stab her in the back one day. At least, that was what Helena had always believed.

"Let’s say that I am satisfied. Anyway, do you have something to talk to me about? Why are you here during my working hours?" Helena asked calmly.

"Nothing. I was just surprised that you are here today, so I wanted to ask you if everything is okay?" Grace looked at Helena with ’concern’.

Helena frowned, "What could not be okay? Why do you ask that?"

She really did not understand what she was getting at.

Just the day before, they attended the Jefferys’ anniversary party. What could happen in a single night?

Of course, there was a whole incident of kidnapping that she knew of, but Helena was also sure that, except for their family, no one outside would have known about such a matter in such a short time.

"How can you ask that? Did you forget that you just got married? This is your honeymoon period. You should go on a honeymoon trip with your husband. Not come to the office," Grace looked at her in astonishment as if she couldn’t understand how Helena did not understand this basic matter.

But listening to that, Helena could only frown harder.

Except for her wedding, nothing else happened in her life?

Most importantly, she had just lost her mother. Having a wedding under such circumstances was already a huge deal for her.

As her best friend, shouldn’t Grace understand what she was going through and understand her sadness? How could she expect her to enjoy her ’honeymoon period’ at a time like this?

"Of course, we will go on our honeymoon. We just thought of postponing it for a month for our reasons. Why are you worrying about that anyway?" Helena asked seriously.

After all, it isn’t uncommon to postpone a honeymoon after the wedding. Not everyone could afford a holiday right after the wedding. It is very common to go on the trip after a month or two, according to the couple’s schedule.

Helena just did not understand Grace’s thoughts and asked her to find out what exactly was going on in her mind when she asked that.

But she did not expect Grace’s expression to change as soon as she finished speaking.

Helena looked at Grace’s face clearly and felt her face turn pale. But why?

"You are going on a honeymoon? I thought... I thought..." Grace couldn’t finish her sentence, and this only made Helena wonder what was going on with her.

"What did you think?"

"I thought..."

"How many times are you going to repeat that? Why are you stuttering? Grace, are you okay?" Helena asked.

"Huh?" Grace was stunned and suddenly came back to her senses. She realized that she had let her emotions take over and immediately turned calm. She smiled softly and shook her head, "I am fine. I just thought that you might have canceled your honeymoon. So, I was concerned."

"Cancelled? Why did you think that?" Even though she asked the question calmly, Helena felt turmoil in her heart. The change of expressions on Grace’s face just now was scary.

Even though she did not understand what she was thinking clearly, Helena at least understood that her expressions changed like a flip of a page. Instant.

Having that ability could be considered either a great talent or very scary.

Under the circumstances, Helena could only feel scared by her good friend.

"Nothing much. I was just wondering if Vernon was good to you." Grace said with ’concern’.

But Helena could feel that this concern was very much fake.

"Of course, he is good to me. Why wouldn’t he? Don’t you know him? Why do you even doubt him?" Helena asked her.

"After what he did at your wedding and considering you did not go to your honeymoon yet, I was just worried about you. Helena, you know that you can share everything with me, right?"

Helena frowned. Actually, she had completely forgotten about what had happened at her wedding. Everyone around her knew better than to remind her of such a thing. It was only Grace who always brought that matter up whenever they met each other.

It was like she wanted to sprinkle salt on her wounds whenever possible.

She already had a conversation with Vernon about the matter, and they decided to divorce once a year was done. Helena did not feel bad about the matter anymore.

But Grace looked like she wouldn’t let her forget the matter even if she wanted to.

"Why are you bringing that matter up again? Didn’t I already tell you that that was nothing but a prank? I thought you always liked Vernon. Why do you hate him now?" Helena asked.

She then saw a few colors changing on Grace’s face.

Seeing her expressions, Helena suddenly came to a realization. And that shocked her to the core.

Grace likes Vernon.

Not as a friend, but she liked him romantically.

Helena never knew about this, nor did Grace talk about it before.

So, that was the reason she had been trying to undermine Vernon in front of her all the time? So that she would take the initiative to leave Vernon so she could have him all to herself?

If Helena were in love with Vernon, she would have been angry at Grace for this. But now, she only found this entire ordeal laughable.

Her best friend, instead of confessing her feelings for her fiancé to her, chose to stay quiet until they were married, and then started to use everything in her hands to jab at her at every turn.

How exactly should she feel about this?

She wanted to laugh, but she couldn’t bring herself to it.

She thought of crying, but she felt Grace did not deserve that.

She took a deep breath and calmed herself down. Now that it has come to this, she has to deal with it immediately.

For now, she doesn’t want to look at Grace’s face anymore.

"I don’t hate him. Why would you think that? I am just concerned and worried about you. That was all. If you are happy with Vernon, then I am happy for you both as well." Grace said with her sickeningly sweet voice, making Helena want to gag, but she had to stop herself.

She just smiled back and nodded, "Thank you for thinking so much about me. I am happy with Vernon, and I don’t have any negative feelings about him. So, you don’t have to worry about us.

"If you don’t mind, I still have a lot of work to do today. Can we meet later to catch up?"

Grace gave her a fake smile and nodded, "Sure. I am sorry for disturbing you. You get back to work, and we can meet later when you are free. Bye."

"Bye." Helena smiled until Grace left her office and closed the door behind her.

As soon as she was alone, Helena dropped her smile and narrowed her eyes.

She called her assistant inside.

"Boss? You called for me?" She asked as soon as she entered.

"Hmm," Helena nodded, "I don’t want you to send anyone into my office randomly anymore."

The assistant was puzzled. "Boss, did I make a mistake and send someone you don’t like?"

She knows that Helena prefers asking her directly instead of making guesses. That was why she dared to ask her the question instead of just complying directly.

Only by asking and getting the answers could she understand what her boss really needed and what she had to do to improve later on.

Helena did not mind and nodded, "Grace just came in. Did you notice?"

"Yes, Boss. Since you both are friends, I let her come in like usual. Did I make a mistake by doing that, boss?" The assistant was both puzzled and scared at the thought.

"It’s fine this time. But from the next time, ask me before sending her in. In fact, tell the front desk to let her get an appointment from now onwards if she wants to enter the building. That would be better," Helena added.

The assistant understood her assignment even though she did not understand what happened between Helena and Grace, but she knew it was out of her scope of the job and nodded in understanding, "Okay, Boss. Do you need anything else for me to do?"

Helena thought for a second and nodded, "Yes. Find out if anyone clicked my picture today and posted it on their social media. If there really is someone, find out what the person’s relationship with Grace is. Remember to do this silently."

The assistant immediately nodded as she seemed to understand the gravity of the matter and left the office.
