Chapter 43: Chapter 43: I’m Not Afraid of Him
Meng Cheng’an picked up the bottle.
Tian Xiang asked, "Was today’s incident caused by Lu Feng?"
Meng Cheng’an looked at her and nodded.
Sure enough, it was Lu Zazha; he made a move against Meng Cheng’an!
Tian Xiang said, "What’s the situation? Tell me the details."
Meng Cheng’an chuckled, "Why, are you going to stand up for me?"
Tian Xiang nodded solemnly, "Yes."
Meng Cheng’an was taken aback for a moment, then his lips curled up, "There’s no need."
Why not?
Tian Xiang said, "I’m not scared of him."
He’s the male lead; I’m the female lead, too. What is there to be afraid of?
Meng Cheng’an took the bottle of paint back to the bulletin board, with Tian Xiang following beside him.
Meng Cheng’an said, "I solve my own problems."
This person is confident, huh!
But Zazha has the protagonist’s halo. Can you withstand it?
Tian Xiang asked, "What will you do if something like today happens again?"
Meng Cheng’an said, "Now that I know there’s an issue, I’ll find someone trustworthy to help me double-check."
Yes, he can do that.
But due to the protagonist’s halo and the force of the plot, unexpected accidents are bound to happen.
Lu Feng appears, the factory leaders appear, and eventually his colorblindness will be discovered; he’ll be suspended, maybe even lose this job.
Meng Cheng’an is colorblind yet works in the publicity department; Tian Xiang doesn’t want to delve into the reasons behind it.
She only hopes he won’t be influenced by labels and humiliated in revenge by Lu Feng.
Tian Xiang said, "I’ll help you look."
Meng Cheng’an’s lips curled even higher, "Alright then."
Hmph, there’s a hint of unwillingness in his tone; a classic hidden romantic.
Back at the bulletin board, Meng Cheng’an reverted all the previous colors.
The Mechanical Factory has five bulletin boards, one at the main entrance, and the rest scattered throughout the plant.
Meng Cheng’an has completed all the content; it’s just missing color.
The two finished this board and went elsewhere. When the streetlights turned on, they were almost done, with only the board at the factory entrance remaining.
Meng Cheng’an carried the bucket in front, while Tian Xiang followed behind with the color box.
Under the streetlights, her two pigtails bounced joyfully.
Not far away, Chen Yong leaned against a basketball hoop with his hands in his pockets, watching them walk away. He pouted and humph-ed coldly, kicking a pebble far away.
"No rush, they’re not engaged or married; I haven’t lost yet, there’s still a chance."
Then, a young guy playing basketball approached, inviting Chen Yong to join them.
Chen Yong said, "Not playing, don’t want to, go away."
The young guy said, "Brother Chen, did you eat gunpowder today? Or did a pretty female colleague reject you?"
Chen Yong had been working for a few days, not playing with these guys anymore; everyone knew he was pursuing the pretty female colleague in his office.
If it weren’t mentioned, it was fine, but with mention, Chen Yong felt more uneasy.
"Can’t you talk properly? In twenty years, have I ever been rejected by a girl I liked?"
The young guy chuckled, "Brother Chen, you haven’t dated anyone, though!"
So, really, have you never been rejected?
Chen Yong waved his hand to flick the guy on the head.
"I haven’t dated because I haven’t found the most beautiful girl in the world yet! I’m only twenty; is it shameful not to have dated anyone? And Jiang Gaojun..."
Chen Yong wanted to say Jiang Gaojun is twenty-five and not dating anyone either.
But before he could speak, Jiang Gaojun and Zhuang Ermei, who had been getting to know each other in the woods for over an hour, walked over.
Jiang Gaojun, his face flushed, whispered to Chen Yong, "Mr. Chen, thanks for today; I’m going to escort Ermei now."
Zhuang Ermei bashfully added, "Thanks, Mr. Chen; I already talked to Tian Xiang about it."
Chen Yong chuckled, "Alright, you guys go ahead; it’s late, just eat together, and if there’s any problem, you can still find us!"
They nodded and quickly left.
Chen Yong watched them go, his calm smile slowly transforming into envy, and then he waved to those on the court before leaving too.
Factory entrance area.
Meng Cheng’an called out "color," and Tian Xiang handed him the paint. When adjustments were needed, she would help.
Working together this time, Tian Xiang found that although Meng Cheng’an couldn’t see colors, he understood them quite well, probably having read some books or been taught, which he remembered.
After the final stroke, Meng Cheng’an took the tools to the sink. Seeing Tian Xiang helping beside him, he said softly, "Let’s go eat."
Tian Xiang asked, "What did you say?"
Both faucets were running; if not loud, how could I hear?
Meng Cheng’an fell silent until the cleaning was finished, then said, "Is your stomach hungry?"
Tian Xiang said, "Hungry!" It was almost seven.
Meng Cheng’an looked towards the distance, "Let me treat you to dinner; I haven’t used any of my meal tickets this month."
After explaining so much, Tian Xiang’s response was straightforward, "No need for you to treat."
Meng Cheng’an’s gaze faltered, his face visibly dropping, then forced a smile, carrying his things, preparing to leave.
Tian Xiang stopped him, "Where are you going?"
"To put things away."
"Oh."
Tian Xiang matched his pace.
Meng Cheng’an asked, "Why are you following me?"
Tian Xiang found his question peculiar.
"I’m keeping you company!"
Meng Cheng’an said, "I thought you were heading back?"
Tian Xiang replied, "Aren’t we going out to eat?"
Meng Cheng’an paused, looking at her oddly.
Tian Xiang finally understood what he was being stubborn about and laughingly said, "No need for you to treat. I’ll treat you!"
Tian Xiang explained, "You helped me last time; I said I’d treat you. Today’s perfect timing."
She should have treated him long ago, fearing unexpected misfortune for him.
So that’s what she meant.
Meng Cheng’an suppressed nearly smiling, "I thought you forgot."
Tian Xiang assured, "Impossible. I, Tian Xiang, stick to my words, and once spoken, they never go unfulfilled."
Meng Cheng’an asked, "What will you treat me to?"
Tian Xiang said, "Let’s go to Bridgehead Restaurant. But, I’ll pay, you provide the tickets."
She had just started working, usually receiving tickets from home, not having any of her own.
Meng Cheng’an said, "Okay."
They stored their things and cycled out.
Going to Bridgehead Restaurant, taking the main road, cycling for about fifteen minutes would get them there.
Just as they left the factory gate together, Lu Feng returned, accompanied by another colleague from the same group, Liao Guobin.
Liao Guobin was called by Lu Feng to help Meng Cheng’an with the bulletin board.
As they dismounted at the factory entrance, Liao Guobin remarked, "You’re too kind-hearted; usually, Meng Cheng’an is like a mute, not saying a word to us. Why must we help if he’s not asking?"
He didn’t mind helping colleagues, but he had to consider who they were.
Lu Feng laughed, "It’s all for the factory; don’t be so petty. Besides, if it’s already done, there’s no need."
Alright then.
They were about to check the situation when Director Liu, carrying a briefcase, came out on his bike, overhearing their offer to help with the bulletin board, laughed and said, "No need, Meng Cheng’an already finished it; I’ve seen it, and it’s pretty good..."
