Chapter 61: Chapter 61 : The Nightmare of Academy VII

Note : Sorry if I haven’t given any updates for a week—I’ve just moved out to another city and I’m still in the middle of adjusting. (I’m a new college student, okay? In a totally unfamiliar city, so yeah... I need time to adapt, alright?)

Van quickly stabilized his balance in the air even though his head felt like it was spinning. However, before Van managed to steady himself in the air, the big muscular figure had already appeared above him.

’Damn!’

Van immediately channeled his [Mana] into [Heimdall Hofund], and a portal swallowed him before the big muscular figure launched his second attack.

Van appeared dozens of meters away from the big muscular figure, but the big muscular figure instantly appeared in front of him.

*BANG

The big muscular figure’s punch hit Van and sent him flying far away.

Facing the absolute strength of the big muscular figure, Van struggled to keep up. He could only defend passively against the big muscular figure’s fists.

Van stored [Heimdall Hofund] and took out [Aegis Shield] from [World Treasure].

[Aegis Shield] : [A shield with the ability to block all kinds of attacks and can turn opponents to stone just by staring into the eyes of Medusa at the center of the shield]

Van could only hide behind [Aegis Shield] while searching for an opening to launch a counterattack.

*BANG

*BANG

*BANG

Van continued to block each punch from the big muscular figure using \[Aegis Shield], but every punch drained his \[Mana] and still made his hands tremble to the point of numbness.

’Should I use [Void Eye]? What about [Mana]?’ Van thought in panic.

[MANA : 20,500 / 150,000]

’Tch, I’ll run out of [Mana] if I use it.’ Van thought gloomily.

*BANG

The big muscular figure’s punch snapped Van out of his thoughts. Only a few seconds had passed, but for Van, the big muscular figure’s attacks felt like hours.

*CRASH

Van suddenly felt his back go cold and goosebumps crawl all over his body.

Van immediately turned around and poured all of his [Mana] into [Aegis Shield], causing the shield to shine brightly.

A golden energy shaped like a clenched fist collided with Van’s [Aegis Shield].

Seeing that dense energy, Van’s eyes widened and his mind grew uneasy like it had just been shaken by an earthquake.

’[Aura]?! At this level?! Impossible!’ Van thought in panic before stepping back, a few drops of sweat trickling down his forehead.

Before Van had time to process what had happened, the big muscular figure appeared behind him and punched Van, slamming him into the ground.

The big muscular figure’s punch created a large hole in the ground and buried Van deep below.

From that punch, Van felt his lungs empty, his spine shift, and he nearly lost consciousness. However, he managed to hold on and stay awake thanks to his [MENTAL] stat and strong willpower.

Several golden portals appeared beside the big muscular figure and launched a dozen swords.

The big muscular figure, who was still pinning Van underground, was forced to dodge the rain of swords.

Van used the pause to heal his wounds and calm his mind.

’How many of these damn a*sholes are there? They keep showing up non-stop?! A muscle-freak who only knows how to punch, a swordman lunatic who only knows how to slash and cut, and a mana control expert who can even shape [Aura].’ Van thought while analyzing his opponents’ abilities.

Van then stood up with the help of [Aegis Shield]. He was already at his limit, his stamina almost gone, breath ragged, pain crawling all over his body, vision blurry, and dizziness wrapping around his head.

Van bit his tongue and refocused on the fight. He saw the big muscular figure standing in front of him and beside him, another robed figure with a mask covering his face, known only by his height of around 180 cm and his golden eyes.

Van looked at the other side of the battlefield where Arthur and Silvie were still busy fighting the swordsman, but it was clear both of them were having a hard time and would lose soon if the fight continued.

’So, I have to fight both of them....’ Van thought while checking his drained [Mana].

[MANA : 9,800 / 150,000]

"How about you surrender? We’ll give you a quick death," the big muscular figure asked with a mocking tone.

"I’ll ask you the opposite instead. How about you surrender and drag your genitals out of this Academy?" Van asked calmly.

Hearing Van’s question, the two figures fell silent for a moment.

"Good. Good. Looks like you’re really asking for death," the big muscular figure said while cracking his knuckles. "If you’re so eager to die, I’ll teach you the true meaning of death."

’Looks like there’s no other way.’ Van thought while letting out a weary sigh. He then clapped his hands and muttered.

"To The Strongest Creature in Sky, Earth, dan Sea-"

The shadow beneath Van’s feet surged violently, even greater than the surges that had ever appeared when Van summoned the [Shadows] before.

The big muscular figure, who was dashing forward at extreme speed, suddenly stopped as if some invisible force had halted him. Beads of sweat flowed down his forehead, and his eyes behind the mask widened.

"The One Who Rules Above Heaven, Under Heaven-"

*BOOM

Hundreds of fireworks exploded in the sky above the Academy, breaking Van’s concentration.

That event drew the attention of Van, Arthur, Silvie, and the others.

"It’s over, huh," the swordsman muttered.

"What do you mean, you ba*tard?! This isn’t over! I’m not dead yet!" Arthur cursed angrily and charged toward the swordsman.

"What do you mean, you brat?! You think you’re worth killing? Even the rat I saw this morning deserved to die more than you!" the swordsman said while blocking Arthur’s attack.

The three figures finally removed their masks, revealing very familiar faces.

The big muscular figure – Rock Blue a.k.a. Master Rock.

The swordsman – Aaron Clarance a.k.a. Master Aaron.

The [Mana] expert – Nathan Gold a.k.a. Master Nathan.

Seeing the three of them, Van was stunned and couldn’t say a word, his mind short-circuited like he had just been struck by lightning.

On the other side, Silvie covered her mouth in disbelief, realizing she had been fighting her own Master all along.

Arthur glared sharply at the three Masters, especially Master Aaron. He was furious at being toyed with all this time.

"You ba*tards, I’ll beat the hell out of you!" Arthur shouted and charged at Master Aaron with eyes burning in revenge.

*SLASH

*SLASH

*SLASH

However, Master Aaron easily dodged Arthur’s attacks as if avoiding a mosquito flying toward him.

"You want to strike me? Just so you know, I’ve been holding back this whole time."

*SLASH

"Is that all you’ve got? Faster, kid! Your swings are slower than a snail."

*SLASH

"So slow. Even my grandma, who lost both her arms, could swing a sword faster with her feet."

Ignoring the quarrel between the two, Van walked toward Master Nathan with a confused and questioning look.

Why didn’t he ask Master Rock? Are you kidding? That guy is just a lump of muscle without a brain. Van would rather believe the [Demon King of Gehenna] would rise tomorrow than believe Master Rock used his head to think.

"Why did you cause this much damage? What about the [Summer Festival]?" Van asked.

"No idea. We don’t know either. Headmistress Valentina just told us to attack the students," Master Nathan answered with a confused expression, just like Van.

Hearing the name "Headmistress Valentina", Van felt like half his question had already been answered.

’That woman is insane anyway. If she wants to destroy the Academy, she’ll do it depending on her mood,’ Van thought while imagining Headmistress Valentina laughing joyfully as she watched the Academy buildings crumble into ruins.

*WHOOSH

Van, Master Nathan, and the others—even Arthur and Master Aaron—stopped fighting when they saw colorful balls of light in the sky.

"Do you know what that is?" Van asked while pointing at the sky.

"No idea," Master Nathan replied in confusion.

"Another surprise from Master Valentina?" Silvie muttered with slight hesitation.

Hearing Silvie’s words, Arthur glared at her and said, "If that old woman has another surprise, she better keep it to herself. If not, I’m going to find her and cut her down."

Hearing Arthur’s big talk, Master Aaron rolled his eyes.

"Keep dreaming if you think you can cut down Headmistress Valentina with your slow sword swings, you naughty brat," Master Aaron said.

"What did you say?!" Arthur shouted angrily and swung his sword again.

*SLASH

Van ignored the two idiots and focused his gaze on the glowing orbs gathering in the sky.

The glowing orbs finally merged and revealed the figure of Headmistress Valentina, like a massive hologram in the sky.

Seeing the hologram of Headmistress Valentina—hundreds of meters tall—Van, for some reason, felt irritated and wanted to attack it, even though he knew his attacks wouldn’t have any effect at all.

"What exactly is the Headmistress planning?" Master Nathan muttered with a weary expression.

Seeing Master Nathan’s tired face, Van was convinced that he had already gotten used to Headmistress Valentina’s antics—and that this kind of thing probably happened quite often.
