Chapter 10: Fighting Yet Still Killing Stealthily... Decay Heart!
Before Jin could react, she stepped forward, and the synth in her hand moved.
In the blink of an eye, she was already in front of him, her synth aiming for his head with blinding speed.
Fortunately, Jin seemed to have expected this. With a sharp twist of his body, he ducked beneath the fierce strike.
His feet landed light on the ground as he leaped backward in quick succession, only stopping after widening the gap between them by several meters.
He readjusted his glasses, then turned to face her with a casual, relaxed smile. His gaze, obscured by his white hair that fell over his line of sight, was cold and somewhat teasing.
"So you finally decided to come. I was waiting for when you would decide to fight," Jin said, smiling. He had noticed the lady previously from within the crowd. After all, he had studied everyone perfectly before making his move.
As an assassin, this was one of the first things he was trained in.
The tall, cold lady didn’t reply. Instead, she stared at him silently, then moved.
Her synth sliced through the air in a curving arc, fast and precise like a dancer’s blade tracing death in midair.
The other trialists in the surroundings slowly gathered around the two of them under the leadership of the thug from before.
"Quickly surround them so he won’t be able to leave."
Everyone also understood the thug’s implication and agreed with the decision without delay, quickly surrounding Jin and the lady.
Jin noticed this from the corner of his eyes but didn’t say anything. Instead, his figure moved quickly.
With a calm sidestep, he intercepted the arcing synth slash that was slicing toward his chest, parrying it with a flick of his own dagger, metal ringing against metal.
Using the force of a backward leap, he propelled himself away again, just as the others thought he wanted to create some distance between him and the lady from the intense battle.
They noticed that his figure seemed to be heading toward one of the trialists who was not too far away.
Seeing this, a strange light flashed through the lady’s eyes. She frowned and immediately shouted, "Not good, you!" Unfortunately, it was already too late.
Before the young man could react, Jin’s short dagger had already stabbed into his heart.
The man’s eyes widened in shock, and even until the moment of his death, he could hardly believe that just by trying to block Jin, he was killed in a few moments.
Everyone else’s expressions turned pale.
They didn’t expect that even while fighting the lady with the synth, Jin would still make out time to kill one of them.
At this, they all subconsciously took a step back. Some were already slightly fearful and didn’t dare get close to him.
The lady frowned. She knew this was Jin’s purpose in killing one of the group surrounding him without hesitation—to deter them.
And it had worked, just as he predicted.
The lady didn’t think too much about it. Immediately, her synth moved with graceful precision.
The blade curved beautifully, like a silver comet in her hands, her movements smooth and lethal.
Within mere moments, her battle with Jin resumed.
Jin countered each attack with clean precision. The ringing of weapons clashing echoed in sharp bursts.
He weaved through her strikes like flowing wind, his posture was low, and his steps were nimble.
How ruthless. Matthew was inwardly amazed at Jin for his ruthlessness.
With that, he became slightly more cautious of the young man.
Jin didn’t seem to feel pressured by the crowd. His steps were light as he dodged the synth repeatedly, while his eyes scanned the crowd, searching for who to attack next.
Spotting someone who wasn’t too far away and was hesitating whether to leave, he smiled internally, and it just had to be the thug from before.
The thug had been standing not too far away, waiting for the perfect time to kill Jin and stop the massacre.
However, just as he was watching the intense battle, waiting for the perfect chance to strike, he felt a chill crawl up his spine.
The thug was stunned. His eyes widened slightly as he turned to study the crowd and locate where he felt the killing intent. However, he couldn’t sense anything wrong.
Just then, he felt the air ahead of him ripple slightly.
"Wait, ripple?" The thug was stunned and quickly recalled something... or someone.
His gaze snapped to Jin, who was supposed to be battling with the lady.
But just as he turned, he noticed that Jin had once again created some distance between himself and the lady and was now aiming directly at him.
Shocked, he quickly raised his hand to defend the attack, but just then Jin twisted midair and increased his speed.
Like a phantom closing in, his movement blurred. The moment the thug turned around, he was stabbed in the back by a light dagger.
The thug spat out a mouthful of blood, and with ragged breath, pleaded as he crawled away, begging for a lifeline.
"Plea... please don’t kill me!"
However, Jin ignored the man’s pleas and stabbed without hesitation. He knew that there was still the lady from before, so he couldn’t waste his time.
In a blink, he stabbed once again into his back. The man spat out a mouthful of blood, and as his breath grew weaker, black blood began leaking from his body.
What? Matthew was shocked. He knew what black blood meant. Staring at the thug closely, Matthew’s eyes widened as he came to a terrifying realization.
He... is the Decay Heart!
Realizing this, his expression changed drastically. He knew that everything was now at the climax.
At the appearance of the Decay Heart, all lives would be lost, and only one could stand tall.
This was a saying from the Hollow Sphere, which he had written. The appearance of glowing runes also confirmed his guess.
[The Decay Heart has been discovered. Destroy the Decay Heart and become the successful trialist. All other trialists will be erased.]
Everything was as Matthew had guessed.
Fortunately, I purposefully made the Decay Heart difficult to destroy, which would take some time. Because of this, Jin will not be able to complete this trial in time.
This will give me a chance. I can use this opportunity to eliminate him and complete the trial, but first, I have to take advantage of the others here.
Many thoughts passed through Matthew’s mind. He didn’t want to lose his life here—and he wouldn’t.
Because of that, although he hadn’t taken a life before, he had no choice but to do so to ensure his own survival.
The same set of glowing runes also appeared in everyone’s line of sight. They all stared at the thug whom Jin had killed in shock.
At this moment, the thug had dissolved completely. What remained of the thug was a pale, pitch-black, beating heart that pulsed softly under the light shining from the cracks within the Hollow Sphere.
I found it. The Decay Heart. I’m just one step away from passing this trial and becoming a true Sleeper.
Jin was excited. His gaze turned heated as he stared at everyone else. He didn’t think he would be so lucky.
At that, his dagger moved toward the still-beating heart without hesitation.
Seeing this, the others’ eyes widened in shock. If Jin successfully destroyed the Decay Heart, then he would successfully complete the trial—and all of them would die without a doubt.
They couldn’t let this happen. Just then, a set of glowing runes appeared in front of their eyes.
Along with the death of the thug, the corruption... had reached thirty percent in everyone.
