Chapter 37 Necromancy

Chapter 37: 37 Necromancy

Necromancy is a practice of dark divination by the evocation of the dead. This practice is the belief of communication between the living and the dead and even the possession of superior knowledge by the disembodied spirit, and what others most believed in, bringing the departed back to life, although there has been no successful ritual that proves it. But perhaps, I could do it? But I may need excruciating research and rigorous practice for it if I want to. Certainly, soon.

Here are the general steps I have gathered for its ritual:

It’s Location:

In the silence of the night during a full moon, the ritual can be performed in graveyards, crypts, catacombs, or even abandoned churches. It is important for the preparation to ready a protective magic circle to protect a from a spiritual backlash.

The Materials:

Bones or corpses of the desired deceased – This is essential for raising them from the dead. Some rituals require fresh bodies, while others use skeletal remains or even a valuable possession of the deceased.

Blood sacrifice – 50ml of blood from the deceased’s closest relative to fuel the spell.

Black candles – Symbolizing death, darkness, and the underworld. Prepare five.

Incense or herbs – Mugwort or nightshade to attract the spirit.

Note: This will attract other spirits but, with the deceased remains, this will help you find them.

Talisman or cursed artifacts – If you wish to keep the deceased spirits until you find a suitable vessel to transfer them, a talisman blessed with incantations by an evil god is necessary.

Due to the church’s strict rules to forbid studying the dark side, it was hard for me to gather relevant information, but I somehow successfully acquired a fruitful hunt! There are types of artifacts with specific uses. However, one that is perfect for binding the spirit of the dead you wish to bring back to life is The Soul Coin.

Nolan, engrossed in reading the journal turned to the next page. On the next page, two messy scribbles of a coin were drawn. It was a front-and-back design of the coin. However, it was not a simple coin.

The front side of the coin features a skull with hollow eyes, its mouth has teeth that form a binding rune, a continuous, twisting symbol that represents ensnared souls. Around the edge, was a scratched tally mark that also symbolized a soul captured within.

The back side displayed a serpent eating its tail.

This artifact, an old rusted coin holds or trapped soul, allowing the necromancer/summoner to imprison the spirit of the deceased.

Its Incantations:

An incantation that invokes the god of death or underworld deities. Must be chanted using the oldest language. It took me almost 6 months to obtain an incantation to a specific god of the underworld and confirm its authenticity.

"Sovereign of shadow and keeper of souls, He who walks the halls of silence, I call thee from the depths where the forgotten weep. By the blood spilled, and the breath stilled, open the gates between life and death!"

This incantation is specific to only one underworld god, responsible for whether you are worthy of permission to speak to the dead or not. If, for instance, you are granted access to see and speak to the spirits, you have to speak another chant of your reason and who you seek. Call the name of the spirit, depending on your relationship with them. A nickname that bears affection and security to the spirit will be more likely to succeed.

The Raising Process:

Whether you are using a fresh corpse or a corpse that has started rotting, the body may shake, rot in reverse, and be consumed by a dark energy before reanimating. If simply summoning a spirit, their ghost may appear or possess a vessel depending on the purpose underlying the ritual.

The dead or the spirit may retain their memories or will be a mindless husk. They might be corrupted, leading to monstrous transformation and this may cause the summoner/necromancer to suffer physical decay, and insanity, or be cursed for disturbing the dead.

Binding the Dead:

This is the time you will use the Talisman like the Soul Coin. Using the same old language you use to speak in the first incantation, recite the following chant:

"Bound in coin, bound in death, speak only to the hand that holds thee."

Note: There are different types of talismans or other artifacts that can be used to hold the spirit. I used the Soul Coin because it was the only thing I managed to gather info and saw the real thing, and even studied it with my own eyes.

I have not fully grasped the fundamental nature of this ritual. According to the old warlock I spoke to, the ritual may vary according to the purpose of calling the dead and the nature of the dead when they were alive.

Nolan flipped the book closed. A wave of motivation and inspiration course through him.

A warlock... Nolan muttered inwardly. He stayed seated on his bed, his legs crossed, while the book rested on his lap. The letters on its cover still glowed in a purple hue.

He stared at it, intently watching the glimmering letters etched on the hardcover, admiring its glittering soft glow.

A warlock, according to the Orthodox scriptures, was someone who made a pact with the devil.

Am I a warlock for making a pact with Nerys? Nolan felt a thrill at the thought.

Is Nerys a devil...? It was stated in the book, Pact and Contract, that Nerys is a Gardener Chthon and a kind one.

At the sudden thought, things became more confusing to Nolan.

Unlike witches, warlocks were more dangerous. However, due to the church’s relentless effort to capture evildoers, witches and warlocks gradually faded into history.

With good intentions, the church included the history and stories of their hunts for warlocks and witches—once infamous in the past—to instill fear in the common people and deter them from straying to the dark side. They wanted to showcase their power against these evildoers, achieved through the guidance of the Lord worshiped by the Orthodox Church.
