Chapter 25 Uncle Rebus

Chapter 25: 25 Uncle Rebus

"It would be advantageous for the church to have someone who could provide them relevant intel."

"Lord Nolan, are you underestimating the church? Don’t even think that the church would cooperate with some random heretic who hides in his father’s wealth."

Nolan scoffed, "For someone who is asking for help from the devil himself, doesn’t that make you one of us?"

Deacon Frantz halted in surprise.

The darkness in his bedroom last night might have hindered him from seeing clearly, but he couldn’t be mistaken about the white-haired man’s identity. Although he was not certain about it, the chance of his speculation to be true was possible.

Nolan stood up again, and gazed down at the Deacon across the table, "I’ll handle what’s need to be done about the crime. In addition, I’ll cooperate with you in reporting the incident to be the heretics’ doing." he stated.

Deacon Frantz fell into a dilemma. Between the two of them, Nolan had the upper hands. Despite with substantial amount of evidence against him, the church would most definitely turn a blind eye on him.

What could a mere old man like him possibly do? The upper officials of the church only reported small operations and large-scale missions involving the capture of petty heretics, but not those who called themselves prophets who led actual occult religions and practiced dark magic in the most dangerous way.

Cerefina Village was a small estate in the countryside that had not yet witnessed what a true dark magic practitioner could do.

Nolan did not wait for the Deacon to say anything. He swiftly turned his back to him and left him alone.

"I’m surprised how the human realm can be this entertaining." said the white-haired man as his scarlet eyes scanned the grand estates of the host.

Atticus was following behind him.

Ahead of them, a female servant was changing the candles on the wall sconce in the hallway. She stood on a ladder, carefully placing a new candle into the sconce. When she stepped down, her foot missed the step. She gasped loudly, her eyes snapping shut instinctively. As she felt herself sliding down, but instead of hitting the cold, solid floor, she was caught by two muscular arms.

"Are you alright?"

The female servant opened her eyes. She blushed profusely when she saw a handsome face with scarlet red eyes looking down at her.

"You should be careful, or you’re going to hurt yourself."

The man helped her stand on her feet and gave her a small smile before he walked away and walked to catch up after Atticus, who didn’t even butt an eye at them and simply walked past them.

The servant blinked in dazed, muttering, thank you to the mysterious handsome man.

"It’s no wonder why demons from the hell domains loved to exploits and used them for their own selfish reasons. Humans are so gullible." continued the white-haired man behind Atticus.

Atticus stopped on his track and turned to the white-haired man behind him. His gray eyes cold as he gazed at the man.

"What are you up to, Uncle Rebus?"

The white-haired man halted as well, his lips curled up into a smirk, "Is that how you asked your uncle after seeing him again?"

The man walked closer to Atticus and circled him, his red eyes examining him while tilting his head, "Hmm, you’ve grown a lot. The last time I saw you was when you were still 15..."

"Uncle, I believed you’re not supposed to be here—"

"KYAAAAAAH!"

The two white-haired men simultaneously glanced back at the female servant. Following the shriek was a loud thud of the ladder as it stumbled on the floor.

The young woman was slumped on the floor, candles scattered around her. Her expression was one of repulsion, her eyes dilated as she struggled to crawl away, trembling in horror.

Atticus rushed to her rescue and immediately saw what was in front of the servant.

"Squeak! Squeak...."

It was the tiny imp that Nolan had successfully summoned from earlier.

"H-help...!"

The woman quickly stood up and hid behind Atticus, "W-what.... What is that?!" she exclaimed, her whole body trembled in aversion.

The mouse-like imp, with the size of a mouse, squeaked. Its thin and pointed tail sprung up when it saw Atticus before it suddenly shuddered and fell lifeless on the floor.

"What is that?" Asked the Rebus as soon as he arrived next to Atticus and saw the lifeless Imp on the floor.

Suddenly, Sofia and a couple of the servants arrived. They were alarmed when they heard a shriek earlier and quickly ran to where it came from.

"W-what happened?!" Sofia cried in panic.

Atticus looked in their direction, thinking how their reckless action could be the cause of their death.

If it had been a murder case, they too could have been killed after killing the intended target.

The female servant who was hiding behind Atticus quickly ran towards Sofia.

Atticus walked towards the tiny imp before bending down and carefully picking it up by its tail.

Sofia and the other servant gasped in surprise before they backed away. They shivered in repulsion.

"W-what is that...? Is that a new type of rodent...?" Sofia stuttered, her arms spread as though to protect the young servants who hid behind her.

Atticus casually tossed it to the window, "The gardener will take care of it."

"What’s going on here? Why are you all gathered here?"

Nolan arrived and almost immediately, the servants scurried quickly to get back to their work, scared to get scold by their Young Master.

Atticus glanced at his Young Master.

"We are done discussing," Nolan gazed at Rebus, "Why are you both still here?"

"Is this the way to the dining room? I feel like your butler is leading me somewhere else."

"Young Master and the Deacon are done with their discussion, you should leave now."

Nolan and Rebus were shocked to hear Atticus’s words. But before Nolan could scold his butler’s rude attitude, Deacon Frantz arrived behind Nolan.

"He’s right, we should head back now."

"But...But I’m still hungry,"
