Chapter 294: Chapter 294: Slap in the Face
"Three moves have gone by, won’t you admit defeat?" Luo Haiyun shouted.
Huang Ming disregarded him and brandished his sword to attack again.
"Hmph, you really don’t know when you’re beaten, I’ve already spared you three moves, yet you still can’t see reality!" Luo Haiyun revealed a chilling expression, and when Huang Ming’s sword came slashing down again, he swiftly reached out, grabbing Huang Ming’s sword-wielding wrist.
The difference in their strength was simply too vast; although Huang Ming struggled furiously, he was like a three-year-old child compared to a grown man—his strength was not on the same level.
Boom!
Huang Ming did not give up, his wrist suddenly erupted in flames, scorching towards Luo Haiyun.
"A petty trick!" Luo Haiyun scoffed, a pale yellow glow appearing on his hand, which blocked the flames.
Seeing Huang Ming still showed signs of struggle, Luo Haiyun grew annoyed, forcefully twisted, and smacked Huang Ming’s face with his own hand.
You must know, he still held a sword in that hand, so this backhand strike was akin to chopping at himself.
Huang Ming, of course, became terribly alarmed, and so did the surrounding spectators. Was Luo Haiyun in a rage, intending to kill someone?
Crack, a crisp sound.
Just as the long sword was about to strike Huang Ming’s face, Luo Haiyun timely twisted the blade, turning it to the blunt side to strike the face, thus not cutting off Huang Ming’s head. However, the heavy blow left a vivid red mark on Huang Ming’s face.
They say, hit all you want, but not the face; yet Luo Haiyun not only struck the face but smacked it with a sword!
Moreover, there wasn’t any deep animosity between the two; on the contrary, they were disciples from the same sect, merely sparring in a routine duel. Was there really a need for such ruthlessness when one party simply hadn’t admitted defeat?
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Luo Haiyun struck again and again, causing Huang Ming’s cheek to swell severely and even knocking him out cold.
However, Huang Ming remained remarkably defiant, not once uttering a word of surrender, which even earned Shi Hao’s respect.
Such perseverance only subjected him to further humiliation, yet he possessed a prideful air, steadfastly refusing to concede defeat.
"Enough!" Even the judge couldn’t bear to watch anymore and declared the contest over—naturally, Luo Haiyun was the victor.
"Interesting." Shi Hao watched Huang Ming, nodding inwardly.
A martial artist couldn’t rise above others without talent, but just having talent wasn’t enough; the path of martial arts was fraught with hardship and required enduring severe trials.
Like Shi Hao, breaking through ten barriers, taking ten steps; didn’t each time hover on the brink of life and death?
With talent and a relentless will, only then was there a chance to stand out and reach the pinnacle of the pyramid.
Huang Ming already possessed an undying will; if his talent were just a bit better, he would be worth cultivating.
Shi Hao felt his own background might be incredibly shocking, and once he truly came to know the truth of the past, he was likely to face an extremely dreadful power; therefore, it was essential for him to build his own force.
Xiao Hei would definitely be a strong supporter, but just having Sword Body was far from enough.
This Huang Ming, then, was worth observing a bit more.
Shi Hao lacked neither top-tier cultivation techniques nor his alchemy technique, fully capable of rapidly developing a host of experts.
The key was, there had to be people who caught his discerning eye.
With the judge’s intervention, Luo Haiyun finally stopped, moving aside with a disdainful demeanor.
The competition continued, and in this world, the strong were worshiped, the weak found no sympathy.
Shi Hao advanced triumphantly until the semifinals, where he finally faced Luo Haiyun.
He had always fought casually, always being just a bit stronger than his opponents, so naturally, no one thought highly of him, assuming Luo Haiyun was merely going through the motions and would secure another victory.
Luo Haiyun and Shi Hao stood face to face, about ten yards apart.
Upon seeing Shi Hao, Luo Haiyun couldn’t help but frown.
Could there really be such a person so handsome in this world?
Being so good-looking, one doesn’t need background, money, or slick words to woo a girl—just a beckoning hand, and plenty of beautiful women would be willing to undress.
He felt intense jealousy surge within him. How many beauties had this kid slept with?
How infuriating!
This pretty boy, he’s done for.
"Kid, you shouldn’t have shown up in front of me," Luo Haiyun said coolly, yet there was a hint of coldness in his voice.
Shi Hao showed impatience and said, "Ugly man, make your move quickly, so as not to spoil my mood."
Ugly, ugly man?
Luo Haiyun was stunned. Although he wasn’t as breathtakingly handsome as Shi Hao, he certainly could not be considered ugly.
"You really have no filter," Luo Haiyun said grimly. He suddenly sprang forward, attacking Shi Hao.
He dared not kill anyone, but if it was just crippling someone, his status as the great-grandson of the elder could easily grant him immunity from punishment, especially since accidents were common in martial arts competitions.
Shi Hao remained still, waiting until the other was upon him before he finally made a move.
Everyone saw it clearly, Shi Hao reached out, then grabbed Luo Haiyun’s wrist, everything moving as if in slow motion.
But in fact, Shi Hao’s movements were incredibly fast, leaving Luo Haiyun no chance to react.
What’s going on?
Luo Haiyun looked at Shi Hao somewhat astonished, his face full of question marks.
Slap!
Shi Hao grabbed Luo Haiyun’s hand and struck his own face with it, a crisp sound echoing around, stunning everyone.
Luo Haiyun, to actually have been slapped!
Even though the hand that struck his face was his own, this was ten times more humiliating than being slapped by someone else.
Luo Haiyun was also stunned, then suddenly, blood rushed to his head, filling him with anger.
"You dare to hit my face?" he said in disbelief, his face flushing red.
Shi Hao shook his head: "You need to understand, the hand that hit you was your own, I just lent a hand."
Even at this point, you still spout nonsense?
Luo Haiyun, unable to contain his fury, continued, "You dare to strike a member of the Luo Family?"
Slap, Shi Hao held the other’s hand and delivered another slap to Luo Haiyun: "Should I not?"
Hiss!
Everyone gasped. That was the great-grandson of the senior elder.
In the Purple Star Sect, the senior elder could virtually be considered a co-Sect Master, his authority within the sect only second to Lin Fuming. It could be said that even masters from the Other Shore Realm would only dare to scold Luo Haiyun at most, ha, but to physically discipline him—who would dare?
Yet now, a young man from the Soul Nurturing realm had done it.
Huh, who is this guy?
Everyone was curious. For such a good-looking individual to be not universally recognized after a few days in the sect—was that even possible?
"Good! Good! Good!" Luo Haiyun gritted his teeth and said, "I’ll remember this—"
Slap!
Before he could finish his menacing speech, his face received another slap.
Shi Hao revealed a faint smile: "What were you saying?"
Looking at Shi Hao’s calm expression, a chill rose in Luo Haiyun’s heart. This young man truly wasn’t afraid of him, and the more he spoke now, the more humiliation he would bring upon himself.
Consequently, he wisely shut his mouth.
