Ascension of the Dark Seraph
Chapter 359: New Mom

Chapter 359: New Mom

Lucivar stepped back on reflex when the person in the backseat of the car called.

He made sure he was shrouded, dwelling in the shadows, but that didn’t go as planned.

‘I’m pretty sure I suppressed my ether and even remained completely still. How did she notice me?’

Looking to the sides, he found that there was nowhere else for him to hide.

Even though across the street from the mansion was filled with trees that were perfect for hiding, the trees to his right and left were too far apart. If he tried to move to change his hiding spot, the person inside the car would undoubtedly see him.

‘I should’ve marked Leandra or even Ravenna so that I could teleport out.’

Lucivar exhaled helplessly.

But then again, he wasn’t really planning to come by Master Tobias’ mansion when he was out earlier.

“If you don’t come out right this second, I’m calling the authorities—don’t think I won’t!”

Once again, the voice rang.

Clicking his tongue in displeasure, Lucivar channeled his ether and stepped out.

He approached the car with both of his hands raised.

Lucivar looked inside the car and found a beautiful middle-aged woman in neat clothing, white blazers paired with white culotte pants. Her light-brown hair was shoulder-length, and despite her high-class businesswoman look, her hazel eyes were surprisingly tender.

“Hmm? I thought you were a young man.”

“Ma’am, I’m pissing, how can you see my face? You’re that heartless to call the authorities over a man who was heeding nature’s call?”

“It’s illegal, I can still report you.”

“Don’t be like that, ma’am. Can you please let me slide this one time?”

Before coming out, Lucivar changed his face into that of a middle-aged bum he saw along the way.

He used the Minor Morphing ability to change his appearance.

Since his mastery over the ability had gotten better, he was also able to change his posture a bit.

A bum being lean-muscular doesn’t seem right.

Lucivar chose to change into the appearance of a bum because he saw a glimpse of the woman earlier, and also the nice car she was in. ‘A high socialite woman like her should be disgusted by my appearance. Come on. Tell me to fuck off already.’

Hearing this, the woman crossed her arms and tilted her head slightly.

She put on a smile, one that Lucivar wasn’t expecting.

“You’re quite reasonable—for a degenerate,” She traced her eyes down to Lucivar’s clothes, finding it quite good for someone who doesn’t seem to wash often. “And your outfit… It’s quite trendy and nice. Did you steal it?”

“Wow… What are you? A detective?” Lucivar raised a brow. “Go on, ma’am. I’m done talking.”

“Change back to your original appearance and we’ll start our talk.” The woman suddenly said.

Lucivar’s face froze when he heard this.

He looked back at the woman and found her eyes glistening with ether.

‘Ah, fuck… I’m fucked. What am I going to say for sneaking around here late at night?’

Earlier, he thought using the Minor Morphin ability was overkill since not everyone in Sunhold City knew him, especially at night like this. He’s famous—but not that famous. But in case of meeting one, he decided to change his face, but his luck seemed to be bad today.

Not only did he come across someone, but she’s also a strong Hybrid who could see through him.

‘I should run. Damn this woman.’

“Don’t even try running. I’m going to catch you, and it’ll be worse for you.”

Lucivar was preparing to run, but he was stopped.

It was almost as if the woman knew exactly what was inside his mind.

Almost as if she were reading his mind.

“Ma’am, I’m not even messing with you. Why are you doing this to me?”

“Because I want to. Hurry up, I still need to meet with the owner of this property.”

Lucivar sighed and cancelled his Minor Morphing.

Of course, he tried changing to another face to fake his real face, but the woman’s eyes narrowed.

It was clear that hiding from her was futile, so he morphed his appearance back to normal.

As soon as he did, the woman’s eyes lit up.

“Aren’t you Lucivar, the academy hunter who won the South Hues tournament?”

‘Ah, fuck me. She knew me instantly.’

Lucivar forced out a smile as if he wasn’t spitting ten thousand curse words in his head right now.

“Yeah… That’s me.”

“Oh, by the Blood God’s grace, I can’t believe I met you first before Tobias!”

Not even wasting a single second, the woman sprang out of the car, hurried around it, and opened her arms wide with a beaming smile. Before Lucivar could so much as flinch—she had already pulled his head into her chest, wrapping him in an embrace brimming with glee.

As if fate itself had delivered him to her.

‘What’s her problem?’ Lucivar thought, eyes scanning for any weapons that she might have on her—or even a charged ability she was ready to unleash. But then, he recalled something, ‘Wait… Did she say Tobias? Does she know Master Tobias?’

Oblivious to what Lucivar was thinking right now, the woman swayed her torso left and right.

She was so excited to meet with Lucivar.

“So good to finally meet you. I heard a lot of things from Tobias.”

“Who are you again?”

Realizing that she hadn’t introduced herself, the woman pulled away and held Lucivar’s shoulders.

“Oh, silly me…” She smiled. “My name is Vanessa. I got to know Tobias recently.”

Before Lucivar could press her for more, as this was a golden opportunity to know Master Tobias outside of his regular life, she was already pulling out her phone. With one swift motion, she threw an arm over his shoulders and drew him in.

The camera app was open in seconds, her voice bright with excitement.

“Come on, smile! The others are going to be so jealous when they see I ran into you.”

Click!

Click!

It wasn’t one photo.

Vanessa literally posed for multiple photos, pulling Lucivar as if he were her photo prop.

“Ma’am, you do realize that we only just met, right?”

“Oh, loosen up a little! What’s got you all stiff like that? You afraid I’m gonna scoop you up—and take you home with me?”

“Are you?”

Hearing this, Vanessa laughed heartily and let him go.

She flicked her hair and turned to face him, not forgetting to shoot a wink like a playful young woman.

“Oh, don’t flatter yourself, sweetheart. My eyes have been on Tobias from the very beginning, not you.”

Lucivar’s eyes flickered excitedly.

He was thinking of finding someone who knew Master Tobias outside of the family, and he found one.

“You’re Tobias’ new woman?”

“New woman? You say that like he’s some kind of skirt-chaser. Now you, I could believe—but Tobias? Please. He might be easy on the eyes, sure, but he strikes me as the gentle type. The kind of man who’d apologize for stepping on a bug, let alone break someone’s heart.”

Seeing how infatuated Vanessa was, Lucivar blinked and nodded inwardly.

He was somewhat impressed that Master Tobias still had skills even after being with Delilah for so long.

“Do you have time to talk?”

“Of course! I was here to stay the night, anyway, so come. Let’s go inside.”

“Ah, then another time.”

Lucivar quickly refused, not wanting to step inside the mansion right now with Bakar and Mirel inside.

Not to mention, he’ll only make Tobias suspicious if he comes this late in the night.

“What do you think you’re doing? Not coming in?” Vanessa arched a brow, glancing left and right down the quiet street as if she could deduce where Lucivar was going. Then, with a knowing look, she added, “Oh, right—you were sneaking around earlier, weren’t you? Acting all shady like a troublemaker.”

Hearing this, Lucivar’s face froze.

He was hoping that in her glee, she’d forget about what happened earlier.

But it seemed that was hopeful thinking.

Vanessa’s eyes narrowed, “You… Are you…?”

Lucivar sweated a little, trying to remain calm even though he was nervous inside.

‘If Tobias is the one behind all of this, I wouldn’t be surprised if he knew that the family suspected him already. He might already be planning something to twist this in his favor,’ He thought, maintaining eye contact with Vanessa. ‘Or don’t tell me… Is this woman a powerhouse that he hired? Or maybe someone he knew that he called to help him?’

Since Vanessa could see through his disguise, she’s undoubtedly a powerful Hybrid.

She’s at least above his rank, around three to five-star Chrysalis rank or perhaps a Paragon-rank Hybrid.

It was very likely that she was a part of Tobias’ countermeasure.

A failsafe if things go awry.

Lucivar swallowed hard, already channeling his ether in case Vanessa dropped the act and struck. Even the way she was looking at him, eyes narrowed, nostrils flaring with restrained intent, indicated that she might attack at any moment.

Between them, the air suddenly turned tense, and she pointed at him with suspicion.

“Are you…” She repeated. “Are you quarreling with Tobias?”

“Eh?”

“Fine, I won’t force you to come inside. But he’s a good man. He’ll probably forgive you if you smile a little and apologize.”

“R-Right…”

Lucivar scratched the back of his head when the tension suddenly disappeared.

He thought that she was about to do something, but it turned out she was only suspicious of that.

It’s nothing dangerous at all.

Vanessa chuckled lightly as she went around the car and got inside again.

She leaned to the window and smiled.

“Lucivar, it’s nice to meet you. I’m going to head inside first.”

“Have a good time.”

Just as Vanessa was about to tell the driver to drive, she stopped and looked at Lucivar again.

“Oh, I forgot. I’m having a birthday party the day after tomorrow. Tobias is coming, so I’ll be happy if you and the others can come too. Here,” She took an invitation from her purse and handed it over. “I’ve prepared that for you in advance. All the details are there.”

Lucivar looked at the invitation and nodded his head.

“I’ll try dropping by, even if it’s only for a moment.”

“Okay then, good night. I’ll be going.”

Once she said that, the car drove and honked at the gate.

Lucivar didn’t waste any time and rushed out of the mansion’s premises, heading back to the academy.

He reached his room an hour later.

Inside, Sabrina was already waiting for him, seemingly with news.

Lucivar took off his shirt, intending to take a shower after a long day of rushing and making preparations for the inevitable confrontation with Master Tobias. Before going inside the bathroom, he turned to look at Sabrina.

“Do you have something to say to me?” He asked.

“Yes, I’m wondering why you’re already making a move against Master Tobias even before there’s concrete proof that he’s behind this,” Sabrina whispered curiously. “It was almost as if you were expecting this moment to arrive.”

Hearing this, Lucivar grinned.

“Of course,” He shrugged. “Do you really think I’m aiming for Tobias only because of Bob? Do you think that’s the only reason?”
