[Abilities: Strength 15 tons, land speed 20 m/s, underwater speed 10 m/s, night vision capability.]
[Diving depth: 7000 meters]
[Note: The host must capture five hundred different types of marine products, not including those already captured, to fully unlock Sea God mode and become a true God of the Ocean. Each capture of fifty species will unlock 10%.]
A few days later, Chu Mingcheng finally arrived at the approximate location marked on the map.
However, after wandering around this body of water, he felt numb.
The waters of the Palau Sea Basin are very deep in many places, with some reaching as deep as eight thousand meters.
The Sea God’s fish finder could only detect fish up to about one thousand meters deep, which was considered a top-of-the-line fish-finding device, and he had only recently upgraded to it.
But the fish finder couldn’t detect the depth of the seabed; it was the echo sounder Chu Mingcheng had just installed that helped measure the depth of the seabed.
The area he was currently in covered approximately three kilometers, with the shallowest point around two thousand meters and the deepest point reaching 7073 meters.
This was a location that he couldn’t reach even if he activated Sea God mode.
Although it was only seventy-three meters more, that depth was enough to be fatal to Chu Mingcheng.
As to whether he could possibly stay there briefly, he wasn’t too sure himself.
After reaching this sea area, Chu Mingcheng did not take immediate action but instead moved his boat to a shallow water area he discovered on the way and anchored there to rest.
This spot was only five kilometers from the target location, the closest place he could find to anchor the boat.
If he left the boat at the surface while he dived to look for the shipwreck, he reckoned there was a good chance that the boat would be gone, pushed away by the waves when he returned to the surface.
It was only because he was "cheating" that he could search for the shipwreck treasure alone.
In the blink of an eye, it was the next day. Stepping out of the cabin, the dense dark clouds made it hard to distinguish between day and night.
A strong gust of sea wind immediately blew his hair back, and Chu Mingcheng quickly closed the door to prevent the cabin from being thrown into disarray.
"Just my luck to run into bad weather," he sighed helplessly as he put on his diving suit and jumped into the sea.
Although the weather was harsh, as long as it wasn’t a storm at sea, the Sea God could withstand it.
But still, he dived to the seabed, lifted the anchor, and wedged it into a crevice in the rocks to secure the boat’s position.
Afterward, he swam towards the target location and activated Sea God mode to dive to the deepest part and begin the search for the shipwreck.
The depth here reached more than seven thousand meters, a depth he simply couldn’t explore without Sea God mode.
Normally, Chu Mingcheng couldn’t dive that deep, a thousand meters was his limit.
At the same time, Chu Mingcheng also finally understood why the pirate got the shipwreck map but never took action.
In such deep waters, even a depth within three thousand meters wasn’t something he could salvage from.
Maybe the pirate leader had other goals at first, but eventually, it ended up benefitting Chu Mingcheng.
At the moment, the waves churned on the surface, and even at great depths, the underwater was not calm; undercurrents were everywhere.
Chu Mingcheng was occasionally swept away by the undercurrents; it was only because he was in Sea God mode that he could resist, or else it would be difficult to break free, and he would have to drift with the current, reliving the "roller coaster" experience he once had under Yanmen Island Bridge.
After about half an hour of searching, he found nothing, but he did see a variety of strange deep-sea creatures.
Fortunately, his Sea God mode could now last eight hours, which was more than enough.
However, Chu Mingcheng spent the next half-day swimming across vast areas, and not only did he not find a ship, but he didn’t even come across a single piece of driftwood.
At this point, he didn’t know how deep he was, guessing he was probably around five thousand meters down.
The tremendous pressure at such depth meant he wasn’t wearing his watch or any other equipment.
Thankfully, the Sea God mode panel could record time, and seven hours had already passed. There was one more hour before Sea God mode would end.
Chu Mingcheng couldn’t wait until the last moment to return; it would put him in danger, so he swam back to the surface first and then swiftly towards the Sea God.
Seven hours had passed, and the wind and waves on the sea surface had subsided, leaving the sea calm and steady now.
The Sea God remained in its original position; diving to check the anchor, he found that it had become deeply wedged into the crevices of the rocks.
Under normal circumstances, it would have been impossible to pull out the anchor without risking breaking the chain if they tried to force it out with the strength of the boat.
But Chu Mingcheng didn’t care, as he currently possessed the strength of more than a dozen tons under Sea God mode, making it incredibly easy to extract the anchor from the crevices of the rocks.
So he ignored it, went back on board to make himself a feast, then called Jiang Luoluo to catch up on business matters.
After a day, once the cooldown for Sea God mode was over, Chu Mingcheng continued his search for the sunken ship.
The marked location was too vague; he had a lot to search for!
Today, the sky was drizzling again, and the outside air was so humid and hot that it was uncomfortable; Chu Mingcheng hurriedly jumped into the water, which made him feel much more comfortable.
He decided to search a larger area today, but still found nothing, even at the deepest parts, where he endured the discomfort of the water pressure to swiftly scan the bottom, all to no avail.
Chu Mingcheng was starting to doubt the accuracy of the map; he had almost searched the marked spot multiple times and hadn’t found anything related to a sunken ship.
For a moment, he felt disheartened; had he wasted so many days for nothing?
As Sea God mode was almost up, Chu Mingcheng had no choice but to go back and decide whether to continue expanding the search area or to head home directly.
Just then, as he was nearing the Sea God again and was about to dive back for some seafood to add to his meal, he unexpectedly discovered a cluster of Spider Crabs about one hundred meters beneath the surface.
Of course, that wasn’t important; what was important was that a particularly brash Spider Crab was adorned with a metal necklace.
Chu Mingcheng’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly grabbed the crab then swam up to the surface.
On the surface, the necklace shone with a golden luster.
The necklace must have been in the water for a long time; it was covered with green algae and some mud.
This area was rarely visited by people, so it couldn’t have belonged to a tourist, right?
Looking at the half hour remaining for Sea God mode, Chu Mingcheng decided to play it safe, robbing the Spider Crab of the necklace before returning to the boat.
He took away the necklace to clean it, and the crab became an addition to his meal.
Once Sea God mode had cooled down again, Chu Mingcheng once more dived into the sea and sank to the bottom.
However, today he didn’t immediately activate Sea God mode; instead, he first went to the location where he had encountered the Spider Crabs yesterday.
The Spider Crabs that had appeared there yesterday were gone without a trace, but the sea bed was full of their activity marks, and even the footprints weren’t yet covered by the sand stirred up by the water flow.
Chu Mingcheng’s eyes lit up, indicating that the Spider Crabs hadn’t been gone long; if he followed their trail, he might discover something.
So he quickly followed the tracks, and sure enough, within ten minutes, he found a large group of migrating Spider Crabs.
Chu Mingcheng quickly approached and located the leading Spider Crab, then followed directly above them, about ten meters high.
He followed them like this for nearly three hours without activating Sea God mode. Seeing that the Spider Crabs were still on the move, he first went up to the surface to catch his breath and then continued to dive and track them.
The habitat of the Spider Crabs typically didn’t exceed one thousand meters, so he was fine not activating Sea God mode.
The reason he waited until today was to have an added measure of safety once it had cooled down.
Another hour passed, and a huge dark shadow suddenly appeared in front of Chu Mingcheng.
It was not some giant squid or whale, but rather a broken and battered ancient shipwreck, its wooden planks scattered everywhere.
He had finally found it!
Chu Mingcheng stood upright with his hands on his hips.
He had thought there would be no gain this time, but it turned out that there was light at the end of the tunnel.
He had said it all along; there was no point in specifically marking a shipwreck thousands of meters deep on the map.
But this site was probably just over five hundred meters deep, making the salvage of the shipwreck not so problematic.
Only, the ship was badly damaged, and it was obviously impossible to salvage it in its entirety.
