As a Fisherman, My Fish Can Level Up -
Chapter 586 - 360: Embark
Chapter 586: Chapter 360: Embark
Jiang Luoluo soon caught a fish as well. The fishing rod trembled slightly, indicating it was probably an ice fish.
She pressed the button, and the ice fish was quickly reeled in; this speed was much faster than Chu Mingcheng’s hand-cranking.
However, just as the line had been reeled in for several tens of meters, it suddenly tightened even more, and the rod bent sharply.
"Hey, hey, hey, I’ve got a big one..."
Jiang Luoluo was delighted, but before she could finish her sentence, the bent and tense rod suddenly sprang back up.
Even those who didn’t understand fishing could guess the reason behind this scene, and her little face instantly fell.
Chu Mingcheng held back his laughter. He figured he would soon be the scapegoat for the mishap.
Jiang Luoluo pursed her lips, shot him an annoyed glance, and then took the ice fish with only its head left and threw it away.
Fortunately, no more mishaps occurred, and the number of ice fish in the box behind them kept growing.
The scent of food lured out the sea otter pups that were playing with the dogs inside the cabin. They moved so silently that even Chu Mingcheng and Jiang Luoluo, engrossed in their fishing, didn’t notice them.
It wasn’t until later that the sounds of smacking lips suddenly filled their ears.
"Oh, so we do the fishing and you do the eating, huh?"
After tossing a newly caught ice fish into the box, Jiang Luoluo vigorously rubbed their little heads.
Mind you, they felt quite nice to the touch.
The hardware dog that had followed them over for fun wagged its tail with great force and, squinting its eyes, nudged the sea otters aside to stuff its head into his palm.
Jiang Luoluo couldn’t help but laugh, giving its head a good rub as well.
He found that compared to Labradors, farm dogs seemed to crave more closeness with their owners.
Nevertheless, in the weather conditions of Antarctica, it was quite a hardship for them; even dressed in warm clothes, the dog couldn’t stand being outside for long and inevitably ran back to the warmth of the cabin.
As for the Labrador, it was frolicking around on the deck, clearly more tolerant of the cold.
Having caught another ice fish, Chu Mingcheng saw that the box already contained quite a few, and decided to steer the boat back to the area where they had found the Dogtooth Fish.
"Antarctic silver cod, I wonder if the meat is as delicious as they say!" Jiang Luoluo blew on her hands to warm them up, looking forward to the upcoming catch.
"It’s simple; I’ll cook a portion for you to try in a bit." Having arrived in Antarctica, Chu Mingcheng was in no rush to move on to the next destination; he intended to thoroughly enjoy the pleasures of the journey.
"Sounds great!" Jiang Luoluo agreed cheerfully.
Slowing down was the way to truly enjoy life; they had indeed been rushing before, which was exhausting both physically and mentally.
They each took a position on opposite sides of the boat and began to fish.
A recently deceased ice fish, stiff due to the cold temperature, plummeted rapidly along with the lead sinker.
But even with a heavy sinker, it took two minutes to reach a depth of one thousand five hundred meters.
Fishing at such depths was challenging even for him.
Jiang Luoluo, on the other hand, fared better. Sitting on a small stool, she held the fishing rod, and if the fish was too big, she could use her feet against the low edge of the boat for leverage.
Given the size of the Dogtooth Fish, they were not worrisome enough to pull her into the sea.
As expected, it was Chu Mingcheng’s side that got a bite first.
The heavy fishing rod didn’t bend as much as he had anticipated, yet the force was surprisingly firm and somewhat heavy.
Lacking experience with such depths, Chu Mingcheng applied his knowledge from deep-sea fishing, estimating that the fish should be smaller than those of a similar force found in shallower waters.
He reeled in the line swiftly. The fish didn’t put up a fierce fight, and the line came in smoothly.
The line retracted meter by meter, causing the rod to quiver intermittently.
After a good twenty minutes or so, a grey-black fish, just over a meter long, surfaced.
The fish was nearly spent; he surmised any sea creature brought up rapidly from a depth of over one thousand five hundred meters was unlikely to survive.
"I saw in the videos that silver cods are quite big - this is the first time I’ve seen you catch one that’s below average!" Jiang Luoluo commented teasingly after glancing at the fish.
Chu Mingcheng looked at her with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, "It doesn’t matter if the fish are big or small, as long as the one you care about the most is big enough."
"..."
The loser had no right to speak; although normally it’s the man who lacks the confidence, it was the opposite for Jiang Luoluo.
She rolled her eyes, speechless, and didn’t dare to say more.
She knew all too well that if she showed even a hint of dissent, he would definitely make her submit that night, leaving her sore and exhausted the next day.
Admitting defeat was something Jiang Luoluo had long since grown accustomed to.
Seeing her obediently turn back to continue fishing, Chu Mingcheng shook his head in amusement, took the fish to put it in the box, and resumed fishing.
Such quality catches were likely a once-in-a-lifetime event for him, so of course, he planned to fish as much as possible.
After a while, Jiang Luoluo also landed one, slightly larger than his, but not by much.
Clearly, this group of fish probably all averaged around that size.
Regrettably, a depth of one thousand five hundred meters was a bit too deep, and their fishing efficiency suffered.
By evening, they had only caught thirteen, each just over a meter long, with the largest being around one meter three.
The weight was quite impressive; despite being just a meter, each fish weighed around fifty kilograms.
Packing up their rods, they called it a day for fishing.
Chu Mingcheng kept the smallest silver cod, beheaded and gutted the rest, and then froze them at a low temperature in the cold storage compartment.
By the time he finished, it was already dark.
He then picked up a frozen-stiff Dogtooth Fish and headed into the cabin.
