Chapter 565: Chapter 350 Fishing and Hunting Contest

Chu Mingcheng could never have imagined that roasted lamb would attract two baby sea otters.

The fur on the two sea otters was wet, clearly indicating they had just come out of the sea.

However, their size was petite, suggesting they had been weaned not too long ago.

Sea otters are only weaned at six months, and then they learn to swim; before that, their mothers take care of them.

Most sea otters gather to live in groups, so why did these two babies suddenly appear here, and where was their mother?

"Ah Cheng, will they eat lamb?" Jiang Luoluo asked.

She felt the sea otters were attracted to the lamb and wouldn’t mind sharing some if they could eat it.

While soothing the two dogs that seemed to have spotted prey, Chu Mingcheng explained.

"How could they eat lamb? The things they eat are things we’d feel reluctant to eat every day. They usually feed on sea urchins, abalones, crabs, shellfish like snails, and fish, among other things."

"I see. Then I’ll go to the boat and grab two fish; I’ll leave this to you!"

Jiang Luoluo really wanted to touch the cute sea otters, but seeing them frozen in fear of the dogs, she decisively took the dogs away and returned to the Hei Yao on the dinghy.

Chu Mingcheng naturally let her do as she wished, and he was quite interested in the two sea otters himself.

Once the dogs left, the sea otters became bolder.

They watched him while slowly drawing nearer, stopping only about five meters away.

Chu Mingcheng was curious about what they wanted; unexpectedly, when they stopped, they clapped their hands together and kept swinging them forward as if they were begging for food!

"Wow, you two little ones actually know how to beg for food? But where are your parents, where did they go?"

He had the ability to communicate with marine life, and the moment he spoke, the baby sea otters immediately understood him.

Maybe it was for that reason that they suddenly felt a kinship with him, and at once they scurried over, circling around him squeaking.

After being thoroughly updated on the marine life encyclopedia, he couldn’t understand the language of marine mammals but could roughly sense their emotional changes.

At this moment, the two baby sea otters conveyed an emotion of great fear to him.

"Could their mother have been eaten by a predator? It wasn’t done by the killer whales, was it?" Chu Mingcheng deduced based on their emotions.

If it was really the killer whales, the fault would lie with him. He would have to ask the killer whales when they returned in the evening.

But he didn’t think it should be that way because he had instructed them to eat only fish, and to try to avoid other creatures unless absolutely no other food was found.

He gave these instructions out of the fear that, just like the three sea lions from before, they might get snapped up by killer whales before he even had a chance to react.

However, Chu Mingcheng was only half right; the sea otter babies’ mother was indeed dead.

But her death came at the jaws of a shark before they arrived here, not a killer whale.

After a while, Jiang Luoluo returned.

Seeing the sea otter babies surrounding Chu Mingcheng, her eyes lit up, and holding two live fish, she dashed over.

They would spend some time fishing each night, sometimes using the catch to treat their pets, so there weren’t many fish in the live well, but there were always some.

"Cuties, time for fish!"

Holding the fish, Jiang Luoluo tempted the sea otter babies. Seeing food, they immediately left Chu Mingcheng and scurried towards her with their little short legs, squeaking and raising their hands as if to grab the fish; they looked extremely adorable.

"They’re too cute!" exclaimed Jiang Luoluo, not wanting to tease them anymore and handed the fish over to them.

The next moment, the sea otters started gnawing on the fish with gusto.

But since the fish was still alive, its struggling from the pain made it leap out of the sea otter’s embrace.

Seeing this, the baby sea otters quickly pounced on it, pressing down on the fish to continue nibbling.

Watching Jiang Luoluo squatting and looking at them eat fish, Chu Mingcheng asked, "Luoluo, do you want to keep them?"

"Eh! Can we? If we take them with us, what if their parents come looking for them?" Jiang Luoluo was very tempted, as sea otters are rather adorable even when grown; of course, she wanted to keep them.

"How about we wait a couple more days? If the mother of the sea otter babies doesn’t come and they are willing to follow us, then we can keep them?"

"Alright, let’s stay for another two days."

Seeing the happy Jiang Luoluo, Chu Mingcheng also revealed a trace of a smile.

He knew his wife was particularly fond of the two sea otter babies and had thus suggested it, especially since the mother of the sea otter babies was no more.

In nature, it’s doubtful they could survive; it might be better if they took care of them.

Once the lamb was roasted, they took the sea otter babies back to the ship and warned the dogs not to bully them.

Later, seeing that the dogs really had no aggression and got along quite well with the sea otter babies, they felt reassured and enjoyed the delicacies at the stern of the boat while admiring the starry night sky.

In the following days, they continued to wait by the sea island for another two days. Chu Mingcheng spent his days either looking for sheep in the mountains or diving by the shore to gather sea snails, abalones, sea urchins, and other things.

Previously they didn’t bother with these, mainly because they were troublesome to find.

But now with two sea otters on board, they had to collect more to serve as their food.

Chu Mingcheng even specifically caught a lot of lobsters and crabs to keep in the live well as a food reserve for themselves and the baby sea otters.

Sea otters were practically eating champions, consuming a lot of expensive food, something that most people could hardly afford to feed.

Two days passed, and no relatives of the sea otter babies came looking for them, and Chu Mingcheng and Jiang Luoluo prepared to leave and continue on to the Maldives.
