Its a good read. I read to 600 or so. Even with the bad writing, like mixing up verbs such past. I put up with, the only issue i had, is he picks up any whore that comes to him. Even tho he recently married 2 girls from elve and rabbit tribes. He doesn't bed them but rather picks up that whore who came to him wanting revenge for her husband so she gives anything in exchange for it from MC. And he just bangs her. Stop setting up Mc with whores man. He has 14 or so wifes but the author still sets him up with whores
So, since I am hilariously stupid, I accidentally closed the tab which I had written a 1000 words review in. So I'm fucking pissed.
If something feels weird it’s because I lost the flaw which I had. I’m also not making jokes anymore. I used everything I had on the last review, and rewriting them is not worth it.
I’ll begin with the story.
It’s decent early on. Another apocalypse novel which features zombies, kingdom-building, inner-politics and other fantasy worlds etc.
Our MC Tang Shaoyang is this brute mafia member who has 0 intelligence but 120 strength and 100 vitality. The Invincible Tang wakes up to a zombie ridden world after a nap, kills them and finds out there is a magical system which allows him to level up his stats and so on. Another classical RPG system. Nothing too lazy nor unique. Our MC is not a berskerker or a mage or a fighter, he is a d*mn summoner…
But his class allows him to share skills (and I believe attributes but I can be wrong) with his summons which allows him to also be a mage, fighter and everything in-between. It’s a bit interesting but again nothing too unique.
Everything with this novel feels meh/okay early on. Characters are flat, grammar is nonexistent and romance is bleak, with the MC trying to find beautiful females for his harem.
Ah yes, I forgot to mention also that Tang wants to be Emperor Tang and I believe it took him… hmmm…. Maybe 1-2 chapters to decide that? He doesn’t want to be ordered around anymore and thought “f’ck it, nobody orders an emperor around’ and just rolls with it. It’s an okay development.
He goes around picking up survivors, building a camp and ruling over them. At least he isn’t some weird pervert who forces his people into slavery and beds every woman he sees. His dream of building an empire is riddled with trials ranging from survivor rescue quests from the system to fighting other survivor-camps and even human greed (a.k.a people trying to rile up others to rebel against him). Quite a humane thought to be fair. Since the world has gone to s*it, people are showing their true colours. Well, you may think it’s cliché but I prefer the word realistic here.
There is plenty of politics involved in this book. They are not bad enough to be boring nor mind-boggling to be amazing but interesting enough to keep me entertained despite being someone who hates politics. Action is good as well. Probably one of the better aspects of this book together with the plot.
The characters are good. But oh boy are they not good early on. Not unreadable, but neither really smart. They are in the middle. If anything, the worst part of this book is the language and grammar but they do get better early on. Our MC, as I said, is quite dumb. Luckily, the author is not dumb as well so he gives Shaoyang actual character development, as well as make the female characters interesting and not some pretty flesh dolls for the MC to find warmth in. Do pardon my language, but a lot of authors do portrait them that way. So characters-wise, you are good. But, and a big BUT, I hate that the author introduced a lot of characters. Shaoyang is a summoner (I think I mentioned it in this review as well, but if not, you know now). So summoning characters is normal. He begins with 1, then 2, then 3… and so on. Until he starts spawning tens of them at the same time. Like what is this, does he have unlimited gacha funds and a (Summon x10) button?
I hated that part. I also disliked how he bedded some of his female summons. Not for any reason other than it’s hard to predict what character is going to be important. I hate having high expectations for a character and building some emotional attachment to them just to be thrown out of the freaking window later on by the author. Some characters (most males) are laid to the dirt after some time except a few important characters. And the female summons are even harder to predict now if they will be important or be sent to the shadow realm. Think of this as a pet-peeve more than an actual problem. A good analogy would be a Karen screaming for the manager. I don't think it's that big of an issue for others but this felt as the major downside of the novel for me. Like if I enjoy reading about Male summon A and Female summon C, there is an 50% chance for both to disappear since the author forget about them after introducing latest add-ons Male Summon number 293 and female summon number 294. There is also a 50% for the male summon to become important and stay relevant and the female summon to be Shaoyangs lover and get screentime + development combo deal.
I briefly talked about everything I wanted I guess. It’s a bit of a meh review due to the fact that I read this 2-3 years ago while I was craving for something to quench my thirst after reading ‘Blood warlock: Succubus partner in the apocalypse’
The tl;dr is that everything is meh to decent early on but gets better over time and actually makes this book interesting and worthwhile. From a 2.5-3/5 early to a 4.5-5/5 later on. I give it 4 stars since the beginning is quite meh (and when I say beginning I don't mean 20 chapters, but around 500 maybe). I’ll probably pick it up again after some time since I did enjoy it. Just dont binge it in less than a week like me or you might risk of getting burned out like me and take a 3 year hiatus for this novel.
Gets wayyyy better in the later chapters , trust me the mc's stupidity annoyed me alot at first and i left alot of negative remarks but he becomes wayyy better after reaching god rank.
Has a potential but I needs more improvement to be a enjoyable one keep on going will change my ratings if the novel changes to best 🐢 adios
