Chapter 90: Madam president solving problems again.
A brief encounter with citrus drizzle had helped her awaken. What were the odds of those that had come into contact with this soil awakening or being infected by something?
And the sheep that had been rescued. Those that had eaten the grass, what were the odds of mutating? Was it better to just kill them all and sell the meat to Bjorn? Keeping them around was a risk.
This soil trouble had come just before she had a conversation with Nimo about Alfred. With the availability of the acid rain proof cars, it was not impossible to go out and start the search for him. If he had been on his way to the base, maybe he was still alive somewhere and holed up somewhere in the town.
That conversation would have to wait. She had many things to take care of for now. Just when she was about to ask the system for a solution, she heard beeping and footsteps, so she whirled around. She had sent everyone away because she did not want to be disturbed.
"Who....." The question dies when she saw Hades.
"I heard about the acid rain from Owen and passed by the green house. I didn’t find you there and run into Nimo outside when I was looking for you." He examined the grassland with his eyes. "Is there anything you know that can stop this or will we have to slaughter most of the animals?"
"No solution as of yet but I am working on it." She offered a reassuring pat on the back. "I am going into the space, lock the doors and make sure no one comes in."
He nodded. When there was a problem, she would vanish into the space and return with a solution. He didn’t ask where the solutions came from. Whenever she wanted, she would tell him.
Hades run back to the doors while she vanished into her space. Immediately, she reached out to the system. "Is there anything that can stop the acid rain from seeping through the soil?"
[Host, there are various solutions that are available.
One: Deploy canopy emitters across the base or area of impact, the acid rain will dissolve into harmless vapor the moment it touches the soil. The con is that overuse can cause spontaneous fires.]
Shaking her head, Sunshine rejected it immediately. She did not want her base to burn down unexpectedly.
"System these are uncertain times, we do not need to make them even worse, next please."
[Two: Mist eaters. These are large insects with hard shells that absorb the toxins in the acid rain....]
Before the system could tell the con, Sunshine said next. She did not need alien insects crawling around the base. Not after the carnivorous alien insects she had seen in her last apocalypse.
[Host you have to work on your patience skills]
"I am in an apocalypse system, patience is not a virtue that will help me survive, next." Sunshine answered.
[Three: Crowberry skins, they can be layered on top of the soil. They are designed to absorb toxins and self-destruct after absorbing a certain amount.]
"Sounds good, what’s the catch?" Sunshine asked, there was always a disadvantage.
[The skin can mutate after prolonged acid exposure and become parasitic causing diseases among humans.]
"Oh yeah, we are dropping that one, next please." Sunshine was not taking in a biological weapon; anything could go wrong with those ones.
[Four: Mycelin ash that is a byproduct of Mycelin mushrooms. The mushroom can detect acidic compounds in the air and soil and release neutralizing spores which turn into ash. The con is that the ash attracts insects.]
"Are they normal earth insects??" she asked,
[Yes.]
"Is there any other solution?"
[No.]
Sunshine sighed. In the end, she could not avoid insects. "We can always fumigate as long as they are normal insects. How much are we talking for the ash?" Sunshine asked.
[9 coins for 25 kilo grams.]
"Buy 100 kilos first, let us see how it works." Sunshine let out a sigh of relief and left the space.
Hades was standing where she had been when she vanished into the space. She crushed into him and nearly sent them both falling backwards. In a rush to stabilize them, he put his hands around her waist.
His robot leg did a spin and twirled them around as if they were dancing. It took a minute for it to come to a stop. He did not release her immediately and she didn’t let go of him as well.
Instead, she chortled. "This is the most that I have danced in so long."
Hades smiled. "We can always remedy that in the privacy of our home. I should warn you though, I am a pro, and you will fall in love with me when you see how I move my hips."
Sunshine chortled again. "Someone is a little too confident."
He shrugged. She would eat her words soon but for now, they needed to solve their problem. With the way her shoulders had relaxed, Hades knew that his wife had found something.
She was going to bail them out like she always did, he wondered what he would do without her. What they would all do without her. They would be doomed!
"Anything?" He asked.
"I always have something." She replied with some arrogance in her voice.
She waved her hand, and ten medium sized boxes appeared on the ground. "This ash is the answer to our problems." She said as she took a small plain black sack out of the box. "We must litter it all in every place with soil. The only problem is that we are going to have some insect trouble after."
Hades tilted his head to the left slowly. "Insects vs acid rain. I choose the insects. Besides, with all that rain outside, I doubt that many living insects will make it into the base. If any do, we will fumigate."
Sunshine’s upper lip curved up slowly. Her husband’s thought process oddly coincided with hers.
"I will call for help. You brought the solution; others should do the heavy lifting." He walked to the door and opened it, inviting the workers and soldiers outside.
Major Elio overtook everyone and went in first. "What do you need?"
No one wanted to maintain the base safety more than Elio. It was the safest place for his wife and daughter, and it needed to remain that way.
Sunshine told them what to do, and they got down to it immediately. They watched in awe as the white ash vanished into the soil, and it started showing signs of drying up.
Some workers carried off the boxes she gestured to the greenhouse.
"Where did you even get this? Are you some kind of scientist?" Major Elio asked.
Nimo came in just in time to save Suni from Elio’s scrutiny. "The other areas are still safe, I see you found a solution madam president." A smile formed on her lips.
Sunshine gestured at the remaining five boxes. "Miracle ash, you can call it. We will be sending some to our neighbors too."
Hades made a disgruntled sound. "We deserve a medal of honor for everything that we are doing to help them out. This time I am going, and I am getting payment before handing over the boxes." He looked at Sunshine with determined eyes and added, "I am not returning the cat it belongs to Lisha now."
