Chapter 244: Hidden Rewards and Unlocked Memories

Chapter 244: Chapter 244: Hidden Rewards and Unlocked Memories

As the last words of her system faded into the quiet forest, Liora stood still for a moment, soaking in the soft rustling of leaves and the golden light breaking through the trees. The presence of her system, gentle and familiar in the back of her mind, gave her a strange sense of peace—as if a missing piece had returned. But that peace didn’t last long.

Suddenly, a series of glowing panels blinked to life in front of her.

[New Notifications Available]

[System Notice: Host has not checked personal or base-level progress after recent combat sequence.]

[Recommendation: Host should review now.]

The calm expression on Liora’s face shifted to one of surprise. She tilted her head, a little stunned as he remembered she really hadn’t because of so many things.

The system’s voice replied gently, "Correct. During the ambush and lockdown process, your access was restricted. However, following your survival and counterattack during the mutated beast assault, you have advanced significantly. Host, please review your current status."

Liora blinked, and for a second, excitement bubbled in her chest. "You mean... I leveled up? How much?"

The screen changed again and displayed a clear message:

[Congratulations, Host! You have reached Level 19.]

Her heart skipped. "Level 19?"

She took a deep breath, trying to calm the wave of happiness rising inside her. She had been stuck at Level 17 for what felt like forever. No matter how hard she trained, how many beasts she killed, nothing seemed to push her forward.

She remembered those long days in the Misty Forest with Eli, how the mist made it harder to breathe but helped her grow faster. After they stopped going there, she had hit a wall.

But now... she had broken through.

Her fingers curled slightly, and she let out a small laugh. "I actually did it."

The system confirmed with a warm tone, "After the battle at the base, the host’s performance met advanced combat and leadership parameters. Additionally, your shadows contributed to over one thousand confirmed kills."

Liora’s eyes widened. "A thousand? Just me?"

"You alone, Host. Your command, your skill. Your shadow beasts eliminated the rest while you led the defense."

A rush of pride swept over her. She hadn’t thought of it that way. In the heat of that chaotic day, she had fought nonstop, but she never counted how many she’d taken down. She didn’t do it for numbers. But this... this made all the sweat and long nights worth it.

"And now that I’ve hit Level 19..." she said slowly, a thoughtful spark in her eyes. "That means the mall will unlock more items. My base still needs a lot."

"Correct. Host has unlocked new categories of supplies, upgrades, and infrastructure. Additional rewards are also available for claiming."

The next panel appeared before her eyes, listing the rewards one by one. Liora’s breath caught again as she read through them.

Aether Seeds ×500 (Apple, Carrot, Tomato, Sweet Potato, Strawberry)

High-Density Energy Core ×1 (Powers advanced base structures)

New Building Blueprint (Greenhouse Habitat – Tier III)

Rare Materials Crate (Reinforced Steel, Titanium Alloy, Crystal Stone, Screws, Wiring)

Food Expansion Unlock (Convenience Store: dried fruits, canned soup, chips, real fruit juice, hot drinks)

Bonus Drop (Memories Unlocked: 50%)

Her mouth parted slightly as she stared at the generous haul. "This is... insane."

The aether seeds alone were valuable. She could use them to plant new crops or upgrade essential buildings. The blueprint for a new greenhouse was a game-changer—she’d been struggling with stable food production for weeks. And the convenience store food category meant packaged meals, snacks. That would boost morale at the base like nothing else.

Everything was exactly what she needed.

But it was the last line that made her pause.

[Memories Unlocked: 50%]

Liora blinked. "Memories?"

She whispered it aloud, as if saying it would somehow make it clearer. her thoughts were racing.

She turned her head slightly and spoke quietly, "System... what memories? Are these the memories of this body? The one I took over after I transmigrated here?"

There was a brief pause before the system answered. "Host will understand more after reviewing the unlocked memory segment. It is... significant."

She frowned, unsettled. "And if I look at them now? What happens?"

The system’s tone turned serious. "Accessing the memory file will trigger a deep consciousness dive. Host will fall unconscious, and the duration of recovery is currently unknown. Protective measures are advised before proceeding."

Liora looked around the forest. Xu Kai had moved a little ahead, picking mushrooms near a stone, unaware of the conversation she was having in her mind. The idea of suddenly collapsing in front of him made her chest tighten.

He’d worry and panic.

She couldn’t let that happen.

"I’ll wait until tonight," she whispered to herself. "After dinner. When he’s asleep. I’ll use it then."

The system responded softly, "Affirmative. Preparation is advised. Host may also consider enabling auto-protection mode if choosing to access the memory alone."

She gave a small nod. She’d think about that too.

Just then, Xu Kai turned his head and called out, "Liora, come see this. These mushrooms have golden lines in the stems—might be useful."

She smiled and jogged to him, slipping back into the present. Her heart was still racing, but she kept it tucked inside. She didn’t want him to worry, not now—not while the air was light and their hands were full of new discoveries.

Liora turned to Xu Kai with a soft smile. "Let’s go back to our little hut," she said gently, brushing a leaf from her sleeve. "I’m starving." Her voice held a playful edge, but there was something warm in the way she said our—like the word came out without thinking, but felt right.

Xu Kai looked at her, eyes softening, and nodded with a faint smile that lingered longer than usual. "Alright," he said simply, before bending to pack up everything they had gathered—mushrooms, herbs, strange nuts, and the rabbit tied with cloth.

They walked side by side back to the hut, he moved with quiet ease. The fire was lit, and soon the rich scent of cooking filled the air.
