Apocalypse: Transmigrated with an Overlord System
Chapter 228: The Wall Fell Silent

Chapter 228: Chapter 228: The Wall Fell Silent

Xu Kai’s eyes burned red as he stepped forward.

The west wall groaned under the pressure of hundreds of mutated beasts, but his presence shifted the air. The moment he raised his hand, the entire battlefield went still for a heartbeat—as if time itself hesitated in fear.

Then, he whispered again, that same word he had used before.

"Collapse."

It was quiet. Calm. But what followed was anything but.

The beasts didn’t even have time to react. Their claws froze in mid-air, their roars cut short. And then—

Boom.

Dozens upon dozens of beasts exploded all at once.

Flesh tore apart. Bones shattered like glass. Blood mist filled the air, soaking the wall, the stone, the fighters, the corpses. The wall became a scene of crimson rain. A storm of gore. Heads rolled down the steps. Limbs twisted in impossible directions.

There was no fire.

No weapons.

Just one command.

And total death.

Zhou Yinuo collapsed to her knees, gasping for air as the pressure vanished. The fighters behind her dropped their weapons in shock, blinking through blood-covered faces. Some covered their mouths, their eyes wide with disbelief.

Xu Kai didn’t stay.

He didn’t say a word.

His figure blurred and vanished.

He couldn’t stop now.

Not until he found her.

But deep in his heart, he knew—if he simply left the base in this condition, everything Liora built would fall apart. And he couldn’t let that happen. Not while she was still missing. Not while her name still carried weight in every breath of this place.

So he made a decision.

If the beasts wanted to destroy this base, they would have to go through him first.

East Wall – Minutes Later

Zhao Ren swung his weapon with trembling arms, covered in wounds and sweat. His shoulder was dislocated. His back was bleeding. But he didn’t retreat.

Ji Ming was beside him, expression grim as he hurled an earth spike through another beast’s skull. His clothes were torn. One of his legs was limping. But he still stood. Still fought.

The beasts here were just as wild. Maybe even worse. Their howls were sharper, their claws cracked the barricades with loud thuds. Some were climbing the walls now, using each other’s bodies as ladders.

The air was filled with roars, screams, and the sound of stones falling apart.

"Don’t let them breach!" Zhao Ren shouted, coughing up blood. "Hold the line—!"

And then suddenly, the air changed.

A quiet voice echoed.

"Collapse."

Boom.

The entire front line of the beast tide vanished in a storm of blood.

Ji Ming flinched. Zhao Ren stumbled back, his eyes widening as monsters exploded mid-charge. Blood rained like a storm. The ground shook as bodies were torn apart at the atomic level, leaving nothing behind but crimson fog.

Xu Kai appeared silently on the wall, his presence like a shadow cutting through the chaos. He had just come from the north side, where he had already cleared the wall of beasts. Now, as he stood there, a cold and deadly feeling spread from him. The mutated creatures below seemed to sense it—the sharp, murderous intent pouring off him like a wave.

The beasts that remained shrieked in confusion and tried to flee—but his gaze travelled towards them and then-

Boom!

Another wave of beasts detonated into red mist, their flesh flung into the sky like cursed fireworks. The wall was quiet again. No more beasts stood.

Only pieces.

And blood.

So much blood.

Zhao Ren couldn’t speak. He was still gasping when Xu Kai walked up to him.

"I’m leaving," Xu Kai said, his voice cold but steady. "I have to find Liora."

Zhao Ren’s brows furrowed. "Liora? What happened? She’s not... she didn’t..."

"She vanished," Xu Kai interrupted. "No one truly saw what happened to her. There were no sounds of a struggle. Not even a drop of blood was left behind. One moment, she had been there—fighting beside them. And in the next, she was gone."

Zhao Ren’s heart dropped.

He opened his mouth, but Xu Kai raised a hand. "You’re staying here."

"But I—"

"You’re the acting leader until I come back," Xu Kai said. "The base is in ruins. The people are injured. They need someone to hold them together. If I leave and you follow, this place won’t survive the week."

Zhao Ren gritted his teeth. "I can fight. I can help you—"

"I don’t need help," Xu Kai said, eyes sharp. "I need to know this place won’t fall apart when Liora is missing."

He looked around—at the wounded, at the cracked walls, at the fighters too tired to stand.

"And I need someone to tell the people the truth."

Zhao Ren looked at him, confused. "What do you mean?"

"Tell them Liora was attacked by the beasts. That she disappeared in the chaos. Do not let anyone say she ran away. You know how people are. Fear makes them cruel. Some of them will try to spread doubt, stir trouble. You have to shut that down before it spreads."

Zhao Ren stared at him for a long moment—then slowly nodded.

"I understand."

Xu Kai nodded. "Also... this beast tide. It wasn’t normal. They are organized. Too many high-level beasts at once. Someone is behind it. So stay alert. This won’t be the last attack."

Zhao Ren clenched his fists, his face hardening. "I’ll keep the base safe. And when you bring Liora back, this place will still be standing."

"Good." Xu Kai turned. "Then I’ll go."

And with that, he walked away. While Zhao Ren’s eyes followed him.

Back at the Base – Hours Later

The beast tide was finally over.

Zhao Ren stood at the center of the ruined base, looking at the mess they had survived.

Everywhere, the ground was stained red. Bodies were being dragged from the rubble. Medics moved through the wounded. People wept quietly. Some were still too shocked to speak.

But they were alive.

And they had to keep moving.

Zhao Ren took charge quickly.

He gave orders to gather the bodies of the intact beasts—especially the ones not exploded by Xu Kai’s ability. These would become their rations for weeks, maybe even months. No one had the strength to hunt anymore. The people were exhausted, injured, barely standing.

Ji Ming had already stored several intact beasts in his space. Smart and Practical. He always thought ahead.

But the rest?

The ones Xu Kai destroyed?

They were too gruesome to touch. Torn apart so violently that no one could even tell what creature they used to be. Blood and guts soaked into the stone. People gagged. Some even vomited.

It was too much.
