Chapter 115: Chapter 115: A Second Chance

Liora’s heart stopped. She stared at the man standing in the doorway, her mind refusing to believe what her eyes were seeing. Her dry lips trembled, her throat tightening with disbelief.

"...Liang Zihan?"

The name barely escaped her. It felt foreign now, like a word soaked in grief and buried deep in her bones.

But he was right there. Standing in front of her, breathing and smiling as if it was just another day.

No. No, no, no. That was impossible. She had seen him fall. She had seen the blood drained from his body and dye the ground beneath him in crimson color and the way his chest stopped moving. She had seen the life drain from his eyes. She had been there when his body collapsed to the ground.

But now...

Liang Zihan walked toward her like it was just another day. Like he hadn’t died in front of her. His brows furrowed in concern as he reached out and gently pressed the back of his hand to her forehead.

"Are you okay?" he asked softly. "You’re not burning up, right?"

Liora flinched under his touch. Her breath caught in her chest, unable to move past the lump in her throat.

"You..." she stuttered, her eyes wide and red. "You’re alive?"

He blinked at her, his expression confused at first, then suddenly softened into a crooked, teasing grin.

"Of course I’m alive! There’s no way anything out there could kill me. I’m invincible, remember?"

Liora’s lips quivered. She wanted to smack the smug grin right off his face, but her body refused to move.

So instead, she did the only thing her trembling body could manage.

She reached forward, grabbed a fistful of his shirt, and pulled him into a desperate, bone-deep hug.

Liang Zihan froze with a startled expression, but soon he also understood her intention.

Her shoulders shook violently as she clung to him, burying her face into his chest. Her sobs came again, this time filled with stunned relief instead of despair.

"You idiot..." she choked out. "You absolute idiot..."

Liang Zihan let out a low, awkward laugh and slowly hugged her back, his expression a strange mix of amusement and guilt.

If Liang Zihan was alive... then maybe—just maybe—Chen Wei and Zhou Yinuo and the others were alive too. The thought hit her like a bolt of lightning, cutting through the haze of grief that had been choking her since she woke up.

Her heart, which had felt so heavy moments ago, suddenly fluttered. Could it be? Could they have survived too? She clung tighter to Liang Zihan, trembling not just from emotion but from the terrifying joy that was beginning to build.

For the first time since that nightmare, she dared to believe that she had not lost everything.

And then—like fate itself was giving her a second chance—more footsteps echoed in the doorway.

"Liora?" a familiar voice called out.

She turned, her eyes widening again as she stared at the new arrival.

Zhou Yinuo.

And behind her—

Chen Wei.

They stood there, shocked for a moment to see her hugging Liang Zihan like that. But then, without another word, they rushed forward and wrapped their arms around her too.

Liora couldn’t believe it. They were here. All of them, and most importantly alive, just how is this possible when she had clearly... Liora did not want to remember that at all. But there is something definitely happened after she lost consciousness.

Even Little Eli didn’t want to be left out. He waddled up to the group hug, puffing his cheeks in protest, then clung to Liora’s leg with a determined pout.

"Me too!" he said loudly, squeezing her knee as if that alone would make him part of the moment.

Liora let out a choked laugh through her tears and reached down to pull him gently into the hug.

They all stayed like that for a long time. No one said much. No one needed to.

It was enough that they were still alive.

When the wave of emotions finally calmed down and the group slowly untangled themselves, Liora sat back again, dazed. Her eyes scanned each of their faces carefully. There was not a scratch, wound, or bruise on them. Their clothes were dirty, but their skin was unmarked.

But how?

"How are you all..." she swallowed, eyes narrowing, "fine? I remember—you were all—" she stopped herself, unable to say the word. "Your bodies... there were too many wounds. There was no way..."

Chen Wei’s smile faded.

He glanced at Zhou Yinuo, who nodded slightly. Liang Zihan looked more serious now too.

"We don’t know," Chen Wei admitted. "When I woke up, I was lying in the room next to this one. No injuries. Nothing. Same with Zhou Yinuo."

"I was next," Liang Zihan said, scratching the back of his head. "It felt like I just woke up from a nap. But my last memory is... being torn apart."

He chuckled nervously, but no one laughed.

Liora’s heart thudded in her chest.

"And this place?" she asked slowly. "Where are we?"

They all shook their heads.

"We’re not far," Zhou Yinuo said. "It’s just on the outskirts of the luxury villa area. One of the small side buildings. But... outside is completely clear."

"No zombies?" Liora frowned.

"No zombies," Chen Wei confirmed. "Not even insects. It’s like someone wiped the entire area clean."

Liora’s fingers clenched the bedsheet tightly.

Then Zhou Yinuo added in a low voice, "When we explored around a bit... we didn’t find anyone else. Just us. All of us, asleep and unharmed."

"And the first person awake," Chen Wei said, turning to look at the little boy sitting beside Liora, "was him."

Everyone’s eyes turned to Eli.

The little boy suddenly looked very nervous.

He shrunk closer to Liora, clutching her sleeve like she was his shield. His eyes were wide and cautious, darting between the older boys.

"Eli," Liora said gently, brushing his messy hair, "do you know what happened? Do you know... who saved us?"

Eli looked up at her with big eyes that sparkled like the sky.

He hesitated for a long time, but instead of speaking, he leaned forward and wrapped his arms tightly around Liora’s waist, pressing his small face into her stomach.

"I don’t know," he whispered softly. "I don’t remember anything at all."
