Chapter 32: 32 cards shopping spree_1
The Ancient Demon, naturally unaware that an unknown entity had revealed all its power, felt its Mysterious Power fading. Its battle instincts prompted it to slightly adjust its physical state before it charged at Wen Yu again.
Wen Yu was not planning on running anymore. After all, only one of the two creatures in the ring can survive, he thought. How long can I keep running?
Even though the Ancient Demon’s body was far more suited to battle than a Human’s body, the deciding factor in a fight has never been the superiority of physical size or build.
Wen Yu did not evade. Instead, he counter-charged the Ancient Demon at an even greater speed.
Like two high-speed trains, the combatants clashed fiercely.

The sound came from Wen Yu—not from his bones, but from the F-Class protective jade pendant he had put on before the fight began.
Both individuals possessed Level 2 power. Against such power, the protective jade pendant could withstand 10 instances of damage. This was the biggest reason Wen Yu had no fear of this melee.
Now, the protective jade pendant could be used nine more times.
The Ancient Demon was also suffering. The full brunt of the recoil from their collision was absorbed by the Ancient Demon, and its two-meter-tall body was sent flying. Wen Yu seized the opportunity, delivering a merciless swing with his battle saber that cut into the Ancient Demon’s thigh. Then, he swiftly pursued the retreating demon.
As the Ancient Demon landed, Wen Yu immediately caught up, his battle saber hacking furiously at one of its right hands.
A single strike from the steel saber won’t cause too much damage to the Ancient Demon, but what about ten? Or twenty? As the Ancient Demon howled in pain, black, viscous blood sprayed from the injured arm.
CRACK. Despite Wen Yu’s caution, he was brutally struck by the Ancient Demon’s tail.
The Ancient Demon’s tail swung away, and Wen Yu rapidly retreated. He had achieved his goal: severing one of the Ancient Demon’s right arms.
The large limb separated from the Ancient Demon’s body. Even though its consciousness had been wiped clean, the sheer physical pain made the Ancient Demon scream in agony.
Seeing the howling demon, Wen Yu took the offensive. He toppled the half-risen Ancient Demon with a kick and forcefully slashed at its neck with his steel saber.
Before the steel saber could strike its target, the Ancient Demon recovered from the pain. Its remaining right hand tightly grasped the blade of Wen Yu’s battle saber, while its two left hands and tail relentlessly battered Wen Yu’s body.
A series of CRACKS sounded. Wen Yu saw that his battle saber was deforming within the Ancient Demon’s grasp. He swiftly let go of the weapon, diving towards the first-round reward he had initially rejected.
In that brief exchange, Wen Yu was struck four times. Without the protective jade pendant, those strikes would have critically wounded him.
This was a difference in species. Even if their physical abilities were comparable, Humans lacked the sharp claws and Scale Armor inherent to the Ancient Demon Tribe.
Wen Yu had acquired the steel saber. The Ancient Demon had risen again, its cold, cruel eyes reflecting a ferocious glint.
The Ancient Demon also sensed that the Human before it possessed the ability to threaten its life. The situation once again devolved into a standoff.
「Below the stage」
Guan Tao and the three others were still completely engrossed in Wen Yu’s fight.
From their perspective, every clash, every life-and-death struggle between the two, was like a blur of phantoms, with none of the details visible.
"He seems to be on the verge of winning, right?" Wanping muttered, noticing the Ancient Demon was missing an arm.
"I don’t understand at all; it’s too fast—way too fast! This guy is like a cheat code! I can’t even imagine how someone could become this strong in such a short span of time," Guan Tao said, watching Wen Yu’s figure on the stage with admiration. Admiring the powerful is Human nature.
"Wanping, when this guy comes down, let’s ask him if we can follow him," Guan Tao said, having made a decision.
"We could try that. What if he actually agrees? By the way, Brother Tao, you’re finally thinking straight for once," Wanping approved of Guan Tao’s proposal. Everyone knew that in a dangerous situation, if one was not strong enough, the best approach was to find a powerful expert to depend on.
This was the most important way weaker individuals could survive in the apocalypse. It was also the best path for the weak to become strong quickly.
While the four below the stage were still discussing finding a leader, the battle on the stage resumed.
I only have four charges left on the protective jade. I have to press my advantage. With this thought, Wen Yu and the Ancient Demon clashed once more.
During the fight, Wen Yu realized the Ancient Demon’s movements had become slightly awkward. Losing an arm would force any creature to readjust its balance; this was no exception.
Wen Yu did his best to dodge the Ancient Demon’s attacks while continuously directing his steel saber at the Ancient Demon.
Wen Yu was much smaller than the Ancient Demon. Given that their physical attributes were roughly equivalent, this meant Wen Yu possessed greater agility. As for strength, Wen Yu had already sensed a distinct disparity during their previous clashes.
The more injured the Ancient Demon became, the fewer charges remained on Wen Yu’s protective jade pendant. When only one charge was left, Wen Yu finally severed the Ancient Demon’s remaining right arm. Having lost another limb, the excruciating pain drove the Ancient Demon into a complete frenzy.
Its tail fiercely jabbed into Wen Yu’s body, and the protective jade pendant on Wen Yu shattered. Wen Yu gritted his teeth. Determined not to waste the final moment of protection afforded by the jade pendant, he tightly gripped the Ancient Demon’s tail. Using the force of the demon withdrawing its tail, he vaulted onto its back and swung his steel saber three times in quick succession, severing the Ancient Demon’s slender tail.
This time, the Ancient Demon did not retaliate. It completely lost its balance and pitched forward, crashing heavily to the ground.
Wen Yu immediately straddled the fallen demon, pressing the steel saber against its neck. One hand tightly grasped the hilt while the other firmly pressed down on the spine of the blade. The sharp blade bit into the Ancient Demon’s neck.
The Ancient Demon sensed the impending danger. One of its hands seized the sharp blade while the other furiously pummeled Wen Yu’s ribs. The immense force of the blow caused Wen Yu to spew a mouthful of blood.
The Human body is truly fragile.
For Wen Yu, this was the decisive moment. He ignored the pain from his own injuries. He watched as the Ancient Demon’s hand, the one desperately gripping his steel saber’s blade, was sliced apart by the very edge it held. The sharp blade sank deeper into the Ancient Demon’s neck. As its scales shattered, the resistance against the blade lessened.
Finally, just as Wen Yu’s steel saber completely pierced through the Ancient Demon’s neck, one of the demon’s claws swiped out, disemboweling him. Wen Yu felt the strength of the creature beneath him rapidly fade, until it vanished completely.
Wen Yu, enduring the excruciating pain from his wounds, stuffed his exposed intestines back inside. He then pulled out a basic healing potion and gulped it down. Afterwards, he used torn pieces of his protective suit to crudely bandage his wounds. Only then did he collapse heavily beside the Ancient Demon’s corpse, gasping for breath.
"I almost died there," Wen Yu sighed. "Now that the fighting’s over, aren’t you going to come out and chat with me?"
