Chapter 459: Chapter 454: Good News! Bad News!_2
Li Haoyang immediately objected, "My shoulders are also broad. I can let Miss Jiang lean on me too."
Mo Jingsheng punched him lightly, feigning anger, "Whose are narrow?"
Li Haoyang: "...Reporting to the captain, mine are narrow, the narrowest of all..."
Jiang Yan almost burst out laughing.
Sun Jingtao chuckled and smoothed things over, "I’ll pass. Leave this kind of opportunity to you single folks."
Song Haitao smiled at the young ones, his wrinkled, weary eyes moistening slightly.
After resting well, the group stood up and started the return journey.
"Hey, that’s strange. Why do I suddenly feel completely recharged? Except—" Li Haoyang suddenly noticed a stink coming from himself. He glanced at Mo Jingsheng and the others, who looked calm, so he suppressed his doubts.
He figured it was probably from sweating too much while walking earlier.
Stinky or not, whatever.
After being a warrior on external missions for so many years, there were hardly any days smelling fresh anyway.
Until everyone safely returned to the ship, the compass dial remained unchanged.
That meant the magnetic pole reversal hadn’t yet recovered.
At this rate, the next day’s ultraviolet radiation and subsequent secondary disasters would only get worse.
"Hey, is it getting windy?" On the deck, an environment-monitoring warrior remarked before turning to inform another nearby warrior, "Could you call Professor Liu and the others up here?"
Professor Liu was one of the meteorological experts accompanying the team.
The warrior standing guard nearby seemed puzzled, "Wind is just wind; why make such a fuss about it?"
"Well, because it looks a lot like a tornado."
Jiang Yan returned to the cabin, took off her Protective Clothing, and then removed her diving suit, her body covered in sticky, stinky sweat.
Not knowing when the vanished seawater might return, she cautiously left Hua Bao in the room and entered Space herself.
She took a hot shower, grabbed a self-heating hotpot meal, and went back to her room.
Just as she steadied herself inside, she heard a crackling noise hitting the window.
Hua Bao was crouched at the window, motionless, staring outside, "Mama, there’s a tornado!"
"This—" Jiang Yan gasped, "These Natural Disasters are endless, aren’t they? No break whatsoever!"
She opened the room door. Mo Jingsheng and Song Haitao had not yet returned.
By official protocols, according to Mo Jingsheng’s usual explanation, after completing each mission, they had to sort materials and compile meeting documents.
Jiang Yan only needed to confirm and sign her parts and temporarily act as an archivist to store these meeting materials in Space.
Standing guard at the gate were Song Qian and two new warrior faces.
"Jiang Yan."
"Miss Jiang."
Jiang Yan nodded at the two warriors and then turned to look at Song Qian, "Why don’t you take a rest?"
"As long as I’m not on a mission, it counts as rest for me." Song Qian said and added, "There’s a tornado outside. It’s not causing major disruption. You should rest properly."
Jiang Yan glanced at other areas, where warriors were running back and forth hurriedly through the aisles, "Nothing serious, right?"
"Some cargo containers on the freighter have been blown away. On the destroyer, the spotlight and torpedo launch tubes are severely damaged. Other things were rescued in time, luckily."
Warrior A chimed in, "Thankfully, I heard all our ship cabin windows were retrofitted with bulletproof glass. Otherwise, with winds like this earlier, they’d definitely be shattered."
Jiang Yan frowned. Just then, the ship rocked violently.
Warrior B commented, "Again? Wow, you don’t see this every day. A tornado returning multiple times—this is the third round already."
Jiang Yan: "Where are the captain and the others?"
Song Qian replied, "I don’t know where they are either. But the captain specifically instructed that you should stay safely inside your room."
Jiang Yan caught sight of several lab coat-clad figures rushing outside with medical kits, "I’m going to check it out."
Song Qian knew he couldn’t stop her, so he followed along.
The tornado swept through the night repeatedly, not stopping until dawn the next day.
The fleet of warships was left in shambles.
The deck was covered in a meter-thick layer of black sand and dust, along with scattered dismembered remnants of ocean creatures.
Everyone donned Protective Clothing and endured the heat as they finished cleaning the deck, only for the winds to grow wild again.
"Retreat to the cabin first."
"Understood."
Jiang Yan stayed inside her room the whole day. With no training or studies scheduled, she continued tending to the lettuce plants in her flowerpots.
Thanks to the Space black soil, the lettuce sprouted quickly and began growing small leaves in no time.
"Mama, now the outside’s all black ash! Does that maybe mean it’s blocking part of the ultraviolet rays?" Hua Bao jumped around the room enthusiastically.
