Chapter 455: Chapter 451: Hua Bao’s Great Battle with the Underwater Overlord!
Li Haoyang clenched his fists and volunteered, "Captain, you need to stay here and command. The dangers beneath the ocean are still unknown. How about I lead the team to check it out first?"
Mo Jingsheng didn’t explain, his imposing demeanor cutting him short as he shot him a glance, "That’s an order."
Before his voice faded, the deck began to shake.
Before anyone could react, the surface of the sea suddenly erupted with violent turbulence.
"Boom!"
"Boom!!"
"Boom!!!"
Not far away, gigantic columns of water mixed with debris shot skyward, instantly sending several vessels flying away by an immense force.
The sudden turn of events sent a chill down the spine of everyone present.
The professional teams on the deck, who had been busy, froze in panic and turned their gaze to the sea, "An earthquake???"
Song Qian shouted toward the nearby group, "Everyone, hold on tight first!"
Kong Wu took a deep breath, "What the hell is happening?"
Ye Qing frowned and dashed over to Jiang Yan, grabbing her arm.
"Everyone, stop what you’re doing and retreat to the cabin!" Mo Jingsheng steadied himself, picked up the telescope, glanced into the distance, and ordered loudly.
"Boom!!" Another deafening explosion followed.
A more massive wave surged toward the ships.
Hua Bao’s frame rapidly expanded, and several vines stretched outward in an instant. "Mom, let me help?"
"Go. Hurry!" Jiang Yan took a deep breath, her eyelid twitching uncontrollably. "Be careful."
Hua Bao: "Got it!"
The violently rocking ships began stabilizing gradually, thanks to Hua Bao’s vines keeping them steady.
"Splash!" A blood-soaked severed hand fell onto the deck in front of the group.
Mo Jingsheng’s gaze turned sharp, and he reacted immediately, "It’s an explosion! Quickly, the fleet needs to retreat as a whole!"
Ten minutes later, the water surface finally calmed down.
The air was heavy with the stench of seawater and blood.
"There were bombs planted at the warehouse entrance. It was accidentally triggered by the previous construction team and our advance team. All twelve members... they didn’t make it." Li Haoyang had just finished reporting when the surface began shaking again.
Before Song Qian could pick up the telescope, Hua Bao, who had extended vines to monitor the external area, secretly whispered to Jiang Yan, "Mom, it’s sharks, and other creatures like piranhas."
"These sharks look terrifying. Their size rivals that of the icebreaker, and they’ve probably mutated. Their saw-like teeth are on par with mine."
"Oh, and there are a ton of bugs! Should I go deal with them?" Hua Bao licked its crimson tongue against its fangs, visibly eager.
The massive, fierce-looking sharks made it feel excited.
It had never encountered opponents this strong!
Song Qian set the telescope aside and said, "Sharks, unfamiliar ones. They were likely drawn by the blood. And there are insect-like creatures resembling Eight-legged Insects—they might have been attracted by the blast’s shockwave."
"Captain, should we retreat further?" he asked cautiously.
Mo Jingsheng’s jaw tightened, his scarlet gaze blazing with anger. "Pull back. Notify everyone that all underwater construction activities are suspended indefinitely!"
"Understood!"
Song Haitao sighed, "This is on me. I was rushing, thinking we could collect the materials during the daylight hours. If only we had lingered—"
His words were abruptly cut off as Mo Jingsheng raised his hand, "Dr. Zhang, if there’s blame to assign, it should fall on me as captain and commander."
"But now isn’t the time for blame. The priority is to devise a plan to prevent further casualties."
"Understood."
Jiang Yan furrowed her brow and glanced at Hua Bao, who had already leapt into the water. Faking calm, she said, "Captain, maybe we shouldn’t retreat too far. Those sharks... seem to be fighting."
Hua Bao couldn’t stray too far from her. If the fleet retreated too far, Hua Bao would have to return.
Looking at this section of ocean, if the mutated sharks lingered here, construction efforts would almost be impossible—even if there were no bombs.
Unless time exchanged for space, slowly forcing the shark group to disperse.
But how long would that take? No one knew.
Mo Jingsheng caught the meaning behind her words, glanced at her, and said, "Are you sure?"
That "sure" carried an implied undertone.
Jiang Yan nodded, "I’m sure."
The others were utterly confused, "Sure about what?"
Mo Jingsheng swept his gaze across the deck, "Have all ships check and report if there are any new injured. The destroyer remains in position, while the other vessels must retreat one nautical mile! The destroyer must be prepared to rapidly back away and launch an attack at any moment!"
Not far away, one of the warriors tasked with keeping watch asked doubtfully, "With all these weapons on our ships, are we really afraid of these sharks?"
"You idiot! Sure, our ship’s weapons could easily take out these sharks, but have you considered what attracted them here? Killing the sharks would only result in blood and corpses, which could attract even more sharks—or worse, other unknown bloodthirsty creatures."
The warrior choked, speechless.
"Holy crap! They’re really fighting! Could this be a case of ’one thing restraining another’?" Kong Wu exclaimed as he peered through the telescope, only to see swirling waves and the occasional dorsal fins breaking the surface.
Zhang Yongliang rushed over upon hearing this, "Kong, let me borrow the telescope."
"This—" After witnessing the violent underwater battle, he froze on the spot. "Those sharks have leopard spots on their skin. They’re the fiercest Leopard Sharks in the ocean, and they’ve mutated."
"The creatures controlling them—could they be... Megalodons???"
"Dr. Zhang, Megalodons are ancient creatures, true kings of the ocean. They’ve been reduced to fossils long ago. How could they be alive?" said an elderly professor, trembling.
"Not entirely impossible. Remember, SNP Labs managed to create Mutant People and Evolved People, as well as the Eight-legged Insect pieced together from extracted DNA taken from fossils."
"Could it be those Eight-legged Bugs and sharks are fighting? Even though their sizes differ vastly, natural enemies in the wild don’t always need to match in size."
"Can’t rule it out. Mutated Leopard Sharks are huge but scarce, while the Eight-legged Bugs are tiny but have strength in their overwhelming numbers and fierce attacks."
As soon as the other elderly professor finished his speculation, countless enormous whirlpools suddenly appeared on the water’s surface.
These whirlpools were caused by several Leopard Sharks being dragged underwater by some unseen force.
"Boom!" Another explosion rocked the sea.
This time, the explosions were much weaker compared to the earlier ones.
Mo Jingsheng stood firmly in place, his gaze occasionally shifting to Jiang Yan.
She was fixated intently on the distance, a trace of worry evident in her eyes.
He glanced at Ye Qing, whose hand was gripping Jiang Yan’s arm tightly, and said, "Jiang Yan, I need to tell you something."
"Alright." Jiang Yan nodded and finally realized her arm was being held. "Ye Qing, I’m fine."
Ye Qing retracted his hand.
The two moved aside as Mo Jingsheng stared into the distance before speaking, "Your hidden card is impressive, but keep it well concealed."
Jiang Yan looked toward Hua Bao, which had just extended twelve vines to drag several mutated Leopard Sharks to the seafloor and devour their flesh and blood, and asked doubtfully, "What do you mean?"
Hua Bao, entirely transparent, was invisible to others—even to Mo Jingsheng—except for Jiang Yan, who could sense its presence through thought.
But she hadn’t expected Mo Jingsheng to simply glance at it and instantly deduce its existence.
Looking quietly at the other crew members, Mo Jingsheng leaned in and said in a low voice:
"A man without sin is punished for his treasures."
