Apocalypse: After Being Reborn, I Stocked Up on All Supplies
Chapter 451 - 447: The Tide of Bugs!

Chapter 451: Chapter 447: The Tide of Bugs!

Zhang Yongliang furrowed his brows and lowered his voice:

"Captain, these human body remnants were obtained by Xiao Jiang a few months ago. And now, several months have passed. So we surmise that the other party’s research on the Eternals has made considerable progress."

"Unless—" He paused, his mind processing quickly.

Jiang Yan: "What?"

Mo Jingsheng: "Speak freely."

"These hormones can be repeatedly injected, but this virus, after splitting and evolving to a certain extent, stops when it reaches a specific concentration or value—unless a new, uncontaminated medium is used instead."

Zhang Yongliang inhaled sharply after finishing his words:

"Which means, they need new human bodies for experiments. If they don’t have suitable human bodies as new mediums, there’s still a high chance their experiments will stall."

"Moreover, the stronger the physical condition of the medium, or if it’s a woman, the better the experimental results. So, Xiao Jiang, you must be exceedingly cautious."

Jiang Yan nodded, "Understood."

Mo Jingsheng glanced sharply out the window, but said nothing.

These godless demons, he would eradicate every single one of them sooner or later.

Jiang Yan left the conference room, and Ye Qing followed her out. "I saw Dr. Zhang discussing something with you and Mo Jingsheng. Nothing serious happened, right?"

"No." Jiang Yan turned to glance at him, recalling Zhang Yongliang’s comments about the virus self-updating and evolving, "Has your body shown any abnormalities recently?"

The sudden attention and concern made Ye Qing’s ears flush red, "No... everything’s fine."

Returning to her room, Jiang Yan changed into Protective Clothing and donned her Protective Mask.

Ye Qing waited outside the door.

Seeing him still in the same outfit except for a Protective Mask on his face, Jiang Yan was momentarily stunned. "Why didn’t you change?"

"This batch of Protective Clothing from the base was rushed during manufacturing. My body size isn’t in the common range of measurements." Ye Qing smiled, "Besides, my body can handle it."

Jiang Yan was shocked, "The recent ultraviolet radiation levels have already increased significantly, and there could be nuclear contamination and radiation outside. Are you sure?"

Ye Qing chuckled, "Back in the SNP lab, I experienced worse ultraviolet levels and even mild radiation exposure."

Or, to be precise, they passively endured every possible survival condition after the apocalypse erupted.

Some couldn’t withstand the trials—death, mutilation, and injury riddling their fates.

Those who finally walked out of the lab were the ones who narrowly survived dozens of life-and-death trials.

Afterward, they still had to fight Mutated Giant Rats using cold weapons with their bare hands.

Ye Qing was among the exceptional few who survived both the lab and the battles.

Jiang Yan remained skeptical, "Wait for me a moment."

She turned back into her room.

Not long after, Jiang Yan stepped out again, holding a pink-grey sunproof cloak from a luxury brand.

"Use this for now," Jiang Yan handed it to him. "Also, once we’re above deck, don’t leave the ship cabin right away."

"Thank you." Ye Qing didn’t want to refuse, so he reached out and took it.

The ship had similar cloaks available besides Protective Clothing, but he hadn’t deemed them necessary and didn’t pick one up.

On the deck, the vast openness and flowing air relieved Jiang Yan from the nausea brought on by seasickness.

It was afternoon now, and the sunlight wasn’t as harsh as it was at noon.

Ye Qing glanced at a real-time detection device placed near the cabin door and followed her out.

He removed his protective gloves and felt the sunshine.

Although the temperature had been rising recently, it was only about ten degrees — still cold.

Yet, sunlight on the palm felt sharp and irritating.

Jiang Yan gazed at the white spray stirred up by the ship and dazedly stared into the distance.

Nowadays, many detection devices were no longer functional. Ships had to constantly be on guard for underwater obstacles formed from submerged ruined buildings, which slowed the fleet’s navigation considerably.

The waters housed schools of marine and freshwater fish and various odd creatures swimming about, but no one wanted to fish for them.

Occasionally, one would spot floating corpses of animals and humans.

The low temperatures had kept these corpses from rotting.

Yet, due to the intense ultraviolet radiation, without exception, the exposed skin—swollen, pale, and bloated—was covered in dark spots.

Closer inspection revealed corpse-like blotches, eerily macabre.

Jiang Yan approached a warrior on duty and asked, "Excuse me, where are we now?"

The warrior replied, "Miss Jiang, we’ve just left East Mountain and are en route to Fu City."

"Fu City." Jiang Yan picked up the telescope and scanned the surroundings.

Sure enough, a few mountain peaks emerged from the water nearby.

The peaks were dotted with densely packed buildings.

Though some distance away, one could still sense the widespread devastation and utter desolation.

Ye Qing looked ahead, his eyebrows furrowing deeply, "Fu City used to be a bustling metropolis, home to many people. Now—who knows how many survivors are still there."

Jiang Yan felt heavy-hearted as well.

The surroundings gave the impression of being on the ocean.

But thinking about the densely packed cities submerged under the tranquil water made her uneasy...

Ye Qing glanced at the time; the afternoon training session was approaching. "Let’s go back."

This voyage followed the arrangements they had maintained at the base—day and night training and study sessions alike.

Ye Qing’s training mainly focused on physical strength, supplemented by theoretical knowledge about space.

Jiang Yan and Mo Jingsheng’s regimen involved both physical and theoretical training, preparing for future space missions.

Thus, some aerospace training equipment had been brought aboard.

Evening came quickly.

Zhang Yongliang led a group onto the deck to fish out samples of plankton and mutated fish from the water, along with some seawater specimens.

One warrior eyed a grouper hauled up and swallowed hard. "Doctor, can’t we actually eat these fish?"

"If only we could," Zhang Yongliang sighed heavily, "We’re fishing these creatures solely to test for nuclear contamination."

As soon as Zhang Yongliang finished speaking, a warrior monitoring the surroundings suddenly exclaimed, "Doctor, look over there—what is that?!"

The group turned to the sea under weak lighting, noticing black waves rapidly surging toward the fleet.

"It’s bugs! Swarms of bugs with sharp pincers!" one warrior quickly identified.

"Sound the alarm and notify the captain!"

In a subterranean apocalypse bunker, at the top-secret command center.

A white-haired yet dignified elder scrutinized a 3D map displayed on the screen.

A middle-aged man in a general’s uniform knocked and entered.

The general stood upright and saluted crisply before speaking respectfully:

"Leader, Mo Jingsheng’s Snapdragon has departed. The route follows the final-approved Plan 2, with Musen Base as the final stop."

The elder nodded slightly, his fingertip tapping the screen. The simulated post-apocalyptic extreme weather map of the Dongshan region zoomed in instantly.

A route marked from the starting point began tracing out, matching Jiang Yan’s treasure-hunting itinerary.

The elder tapped the table lightly with his finger. "The ship is full of nationally vital personnel. Are the protective measures in place?"

The general: "Yes, we’ve deployed two Escort Ships and a destroyer, and the weapons and food supplies are fully equipped."

The elder maintained a composed expression as he listened, glancing at the map again, pausing at specific destination coordinates, and instructed:

"Ground preparations must also be advanced. Clear all unnecessary obstacles before they arrive."

"Understood, Leader!"

"What’s the status of the joint task force?" The elder’s sharp gaze intensified, switching the screen’s 3D map to a world map with a finger tap.

"They’ve successfully rendezvoused with other national teams and are en route to the enemy base we’ve pinpointed." The general added, "With the extreme cold weather gone, traversal has become far more manageable. It likely won’t be long before we locate the enemy’s surface stronghold."

The elder nodded solemnly, his determined eyes brightening slightly, "Good."
