Apocalypse: After Being Reborn, I Stocked Up on All Supplies -
Chapter 449 - 445: Captain of Snapdragon
Chapter 449: Chapter 445: Captain of Snapdragon
Jiang Yan reached out to touch the hull of the Snapdragon, her expression incredulous: "Eliminate the enemy forces? Just us??"
The other side even controls the Catastrophe Simulation Laboratory.
Not to mention the Mutant People and Evolved People they’ve developed, the black technology and weapons behind them certainly won’t be lacking in power.
Besides, Mo Jingsheng mentioned before that multiple nations had dispatched an elite squad specifically to locate and annihilate the enemy’s ground base.
Perhaps seeing the source of Jiang Yan’s anxiety, Li Haoyang quickly reassured her:
"Miss Jiang, don’t worry too much. Let’s prepare for the worst, but maybe what we encounter along the way are just small fry, you never know."
As he finished speaking, he fixed his gaze on one of the escort ships, a gleam in his eyes, and said solemnly:
"That said, this treasure-hunting mission is tied to the future of human survivors and the survival of our nation. To have the honor of participating fills me with pride. Even if it costs me my life, I’ll have no regrets."
Only then did Jiang Yan learn that all the warriors participating in this national-level treasure hunt had signed confidentiality agreements and life-and-death contracts.
These so-called life-and-death contracts were essentially declarations of readiness to sacrifice their lives for the mission or for the nation.
Additionally, those within the reproductive age range were required to leave behind sperm and egg samples.
Jiang Yan was shocked: "Without compensation?"
"Yes." Li Haoyang’s eyes flashed with momentary embarrassment as he broached the topic. "The ecological environment outside the base isn’t great. UV radiation and nuclear contamination could intensify at any moment. Although the base has prepared protective clothing, there’s always the risk of nuclear exposure."
Jiang Yan’s heart sank.
Nuclear contamination could lead to reduced fertility or even infertility in humans.
Still, wasn’t this approach somewhat cruel?
Even if it was for the continuation of humanity.
But to bring a child into a world like this without parents, into this post-apocalyptic environment, wasn’t that too harsh?
Though she thought this, Jiang Yan felt she wasn’t in a position to judge.
She noticed what seemed like a tiny gap on the wall behind the escort ship.
An ordinary person wouldn’t catch it unless they looked closely.
Jiang Yan stepped forward and gave it a few taps with her hand. The sound was muffled.
Even through her gloves, she could feel the wall’s chilling coldness.
It was a very thick steel plate.
"There’s a warehouse behind this?"
"Yes." Li Haoyang didn’t deny it. "This warehouse is accessible only with Leader Mo’s password. Once he arrives, he’ll take you inside."
Jiang Yan nodded in understanding.
She guessed that the items inside were likely the ones Mo Jingsheng had mentioned earlier—items she needed to put into her space.
Soon after, Mo Jingsheng arrived.
Perhaps due to a change in his role, he’d swapped into a new uniform.
It looked somewhat like a naval outfit, white in color.
Broad shoulders, a slim waist, long legs, topped off with impeccable features.
At first glance, he was strikingly handsome and brimming with charisma.
Jiang Yan couldn’t help but steal another look.
She thought to herself that, had this been before the apocalypse, Mo Jingsheng, just like Ye Qing, could have easily debuted as a celebrity.
"Leader Mo’s new title is now Captain of the Snapdragon," Li Haoyang whispered into Jiang Yan’s ear as he stood at attention and saluted Mo Jingsheng, "Greetings, Captain!"
Mo Jingsheng wasn’t alone; several warriors accompanied him, including Qin Lang.
Jiang Yan hadn’t seen much of Qin Lang since returning to the base from the Observatory.
At the moment, he held a strangely shaped instrument in his hands.
"Miss Jiang."
"Leader Mo."
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Mo Jingsheng instructed someone to open the inner warehouse door.
The warehouse door also required going through two layers.
When the lights turned on, Jiang Yan could only feel shock upon shock as she took in the sight of the warehouse’s contents.
In front of her were stacks of rice, flour, cooking oil, and canned goods piled up like small mountains. Further in, there were medical supplies, and beyond that, a dense collection of helicopters, transport planes, submarines, deep-sea rescue capsules, amphibious vessels, what looked like a nuclear submarine, and large tanks labeled "liquid oxygen" and "liquid hydrogen"... bottles and containers filling the space.
Jiang Yan glanced around and exclaimed in surprise, "This warehouse doesn’t have any support pillars in the middle. How is that possible...?"
Moreover, they were at least over a hundred stories underground, yet the air inside the warehouse felt fresher than the passageways around the upper-level dormitories.
Sprinkler systems and smoke detectors were installed on the ceiling, and fire extinguishers and hoses were positioned along the walls.
There was even a temporary rescue station, marked to contain some food and drinking water.
All in all, this base was not only impregnable but also boasted an exceptional ventilation system.
Qin Lang said with pride, "After all, our country is a major infrastructure powerhouse. This is nothing."
"Alright, give me the instrument. The rest of you may leave." Mo Jingsheng took the instrument from Qin Lang’s hands, scanned his fingerprint, and closed the door.
The vast warehouse was left with just the two of them.
Jiang Yan: "Leader Mo, am I responsible for storing all of this?"
"Yes." Mo Jingsheng nodded and added, "For this treasure hunt, some of the supplies will be stored aboard the ship, along with a specialized cargo vessel. The remaining critical materials will be stored in your space ring."
"We’ll be away for several years?" Jiang Yan asked, puzzled. "I noticed the escort ships outside are even equipped with anti-missile systems."
One icebreaker, two escort ships, and one other vessel—the entire fleet carried the Snapdragon name.
They were simply numbered one, two, three, and four accordingly.
She had asked Li Haoyang about this before, but now she hoped for an answer directly from Mo Jingsheng.
After all, he had promised her initially that all she had to do was focus on storing things.
Mo Jingsheng: "We’re preparing for the worst-case scenario. It’s better to be overprepared than underprepared."
Mo Jingsheng: "Missiles, for example, are rare and costly to deploy. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, they won’t be used lightly."
Jiang Yan: "Oh."
"Any other questions?" Mo Jingsheng’s lips curled into a faint smile as he looked at her, his expression gentler.
"Oh." Jiang Yan exhaled a sigh of relief and glanced at the instrument in his hands. "What’s that?"
"An automatic scanning recorder. It can automatically log the inventory of stored items. All the supplies in this warehouse were previously catalogued, and subsequent withdrawals from your space ring will also need to be recorded." Mo Jingsheng finished speaking and gestured with a hand. "Shall we begin?"
Jiang Yan paused for a moment and said, "Alright."
The Gold from before had been directly handed over to Jiang Yan in its entirety without much fuss.
But this time, with supplies ranging from staple foods like rice and flour to radar ships, everything was only temporarily placed in her space.
Thus, keeping entry and exit records was essential.
Still, Jiang Yan glanced at his meticulous and focused expression as he logged and checked items, and she couldn’t help but chuckle internally.
The former base leader, now a captain, had volunteered to act as a warehouse manager just to ensure her space wasn’t exposed?
Fine, she was technically a warehouse manager too.
Half an hour later, the two visually stunning warehouse managers looked around the now-empty room and let out a simultaneous sigh of relief.
A rest area was set up at intervals along the edges.
Jiang Yan sat down and gently massaged her arm.
Every item she stored required her to lift her arm and make physical contact, and after repeating the action multiple times, her arm had grown sore.
Mo Jingsheng maintained his composed and commanding posture throughout.
But Jiang Yan could clearly see that he was actually quite fatigued, simply pushing himself to endure it.
"Wait here for a moment. I’ll grab you some water," Mo Jingsheng said before turning to leave, but Jiang Yan stopped him. "I have some."
She retrieved two bottles of water from her space, handing half a bottle to Mo Jingsheng.
Mo Jingsheng glanced at the logo-less bottle in his hand, didn’t overthink it, and unscrewed the cap to take a sip.
"This bottle is only half full and obviously opened before. Aren’t you worried I might poison you?" Jiang Yan jested.
His brows lifted slightly. He initially wanted to say he trusted her completely but reconsidered, thinking his words might sound inappropriate. Instead, he replied, "I’ve been targeted for assassination plenty of times, but I’ve got a big enough life. I’m not afraid."
As his voice trailed off, Mo Jingsheng realized something was off.
The water he drank seemed to spread into countless fine, warm threads, coursing through his body bit by bit.
The fatigue that had weighed heavily on him for days was gradually washed away, replaced by an indescribable comfort.
"By the way, what kind of water is this? It’s sweet and refreshing, unlike ordinary mineral water," he remarked.
