Chapter 870: Chapter 403: The Note from the Dream Study Sector

"Is there some kind of problem?" Lin Yi asked in return.

"Do you even know what you just..." The female dormitory manager opened her mouth but stopped mid-sentence. "Forget it, suit yourself..."

"I know." Lin Yi said.

The female dormitory manager froze.

"I’ve always known," Lin Yi continued. "Those things surrounded us, didn’t they? I could hear all the chirping noises... I just didn’t have time to bother with them. Still, thank you."

The female dormitory manager’s expression began to change.

"So... from the start, were you really trying to touch my leg?"

She placed her hands on her hips and glared at Lin Yi like a predator stalking its prey.

Lin Yi’s face contorted dramatically. Are you serious, sis? What kind of crazy logic is this? How the hell is this even connected... Damn it, she actually figured it out?

Seeing Lin Yi’s expression, the female dormitory manager knew she had hit the mark. She immediately snorted, "Pervert."

Lin Yi twitched the corner of his mouth. "How about we talk about something serious instead?"

"Let me tell you, in a place like this, other than chatting about trivial nonsense, serious conversations tend to spiral out of control quickly. Understand?"

"Ah! You’re reminding me now!" Lin Yi’s eyes lit up as he realized the female dormitory manager’s approach was quite similar to Wei Liang’s. "That makes total sense!"

"Why else do you think I keep bringing up all these sleazy topics?" the female dormitory manager retorted.

"What? Isn’t it just an excuse to indulge in sleazy jokes openly?" Lin Yi was momentarily dumbfounded.

"Get lost!!!" Despite her unnaturally pale face, a faint flush rose to the female dormitory manager’s cheeks.

Lin Yi rolled his eyes. "Fine, fine, I’ll get lost."

He began wandering around the Dream Study Sector, careful not to wander too far, lest he accidentally stumble into the forbidden Collection Area.

He didn’t need to think twice to know that the Collection Area was definitely extraordinary—housing earth-shattering secrets. But given how pressed for time he was now, he had to focus on getting back to the campus first. As for the library’s mysteries, those would have to wait for another day—if fate allowed.

The foremost condition for exploration was always ensuring his own safety.

He roamed idly, thinking that if he found a book that particularly caught his interest, he’d pull it down and flip through a few pages.

As for the second floor and higher levels of the library... he didn’t currently have the inclination to go there.

As Lin Yi moved, the zealots subtly followed him, seemingly waiting for the moment he’d once again lose himself in a book.

They had no intention of letting this prime prey slip away. After all, Lin Yi represented enough sustenance to feed them for three years straight.

Lin Yi completely understood the zealots’ intentions. He also knew that right now, they couldn’t act against him. As long as his rational mind remained intact, their level of "temptation" didn’t stand a chance against him.

As he walked, he suddenly noticed something poking out from a bookshelf ahead—a small corner of paper trapped between the pages.

"Oh, a sticky note!"

"Huh? Why did I say ’Oh’? Damn it, am I already this accustomed to it?"

[When reading books, do not scribble or doodle in them. If you come across small pieces of paper that have fallen out of the books, do not trust their contents. They are just nonsense scribbled by others. Simply tuck them back into the book.]

The "Library Rules" stated as much, but Lin Yi understood the underlying logic behind the notes. Hence, he wasn’t afraid.

What was the underlying logic of these notes?

It was simply that polluters, influenced by their own cognition and the surrounding environment at the time, scribbled down these messages. They had a certain temporal relevance and were entirely subjective.

The purpose of writing notes was often to remind oneself of something they might forget later on. After all, who would write such things seriously?

Therefore, if there was no fear, there was no need to avoid them.

He walked over to the bookshelf, pulled down the book containing the note, and opened it to the page holding the trapped paper.

The female dormitory manager had been trailing Lin Yi all along. Upon seeing this, she instinctively wanted to warn him but hesitated, biting her lip. Ultimately, she said nothing and simply watched Lin Yi in silence, curious about what this "gentleman" intended to do.

After all, she herself had just realized that Lin Yi wasn’t actually a dormitory supervisor.

A person who carried the identity of dormitory supervisor and an old kerosene lamp but abandoned both when the elevator reached the library—this single act alone hid deeply intriguing secrets.

Lin Yi was aware of the female dormitory manager following him but had no idea what she was thinking.

He glanced at the note. It contained scrawled letters resembling gibberish. After some effort, he managed to recognize a handful of words:

"Don’t... approach... Collec... tion... Area... full of... corpses... they move... help..."

Some words were beyond his ability to decipher, as they seemed to have transcended language altogether. They resembled strange symbols crafted during an altered state of consciousness, faintly exuding a sinister force not belonging to the realm of mere letters.

"Collection Area? All moving corpses...?" Lin Yi paused briefly.

How could corpses move?

And if they could move, were they truly corpses?

Could it be pseudo-human sculptures?

Lin Yi considered it for a moment and decided otherwise.

Pseudo-human sculptures didn’t seem capable of accessing the library.

Was there a third pathway for them after leaving the campus, one connecting the layers to the library?

After pondering this, he returned the note to the book and put the book back in its place.

Compared to the message written, those eerie symbols held far more research value.

To Lin Yi, the symbols seemed almost like an archaeologist who had accidentally fallen through a layer of ice, glimpsed the corner of a mysterious world frozen eternally beneath it, and upon escaping, recorded a fragment of what they had seen. The result: symbols imprinted on paper that hinted at a forbidden story.
